What stats am I looking at?

I counted 16 stats where Rayner leads Spargo this season and just 9 where Spargo leads Rayner. That’s what stats I am looking at my confused little Demon supporting friend.

So wtf are you looking at?
Did you really just include Rayner's disposals at 14.3 (vs Spargo's 14.2) as a win? Despite him playing midfield time and having 52 centre bounce attendances for the season? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

So you mean Rayner is spending less time forward and therefore having massively bigger scoreboard impact per minute spent forward?

Your foot seems to have one of your bullets in it. 😂😂

huh? answer my question...he's had 52 cba's for the year, why would you include that as a win? lol. some analyser you are :)

Dan, if it means that much to you, we will give Spargo disposals. But we will reverse score involvements on the same basis.

So it is still 16-9. 😎

So the question remains, what set of stats are you looking at?

You remind me of the noted agnostic W. C. Fields, who, when found to be studying the bible in fine detail on his death bed, was asked why he was doing that. He replied: “I am looking for loopholes.”

You Dan have made preposterous claims about Rayner on this thread, and especially in relation to some other players, chief amongst which is Spargo. We have demonstrated to you how that "good player" Chuck Spargo has actually done less than the Rayner, who has done “zilch” in your unesteemed opinion.

So I wouldn’t trouble yourself over my analysis. As that great footy analyst Matthew said in 7:5, You hypocrite! Do not concern yourself over the speck in your brother’s eye, whilst there is a log in your own eye. 😍

The stats would actually be 13-5 in Spargo's favour if Spargo got 52 centre bounces.

Spargo takes home: kicks, handballs, disposals, marks, tackles, inside 50's, uncontested possessions, effective disposals, one percenters, metres gained, tackles inside 50m, centre clearances, stoppage clearances (13).

Rayner takes home: goals, goal assists, disposal efficiency, contested marks, sore involvements (5)

It all started because Rayner's trade value I believe is not very high at all. Naturally, as a top draft pick starts off he gets time, but each year that slips by of irrelevancy greatly depreciates their value. Patty Dow case in point.

Rayner may be below where he should be for a number 1 pick but no club/admin would be trading him for Spargo and thinking they have won that deal lol

I mean the fool claiming that is also arguing Harmes is better than Cripps on another thread

I'm not disagreeing with you there because the hype following high picks lingers for a few years but after that their value drops away quickly.
Carlton fans wouldn't have traded Dow for Spargo, but now they would. 1 or 2 seasons of nothingness from Rayner and he'll be worth next to nothing. it's a big 12-24 months.

i acknowledge being flippant on harmes v cripps

It is not Rayner's fault he was incorrectly taken at pick 1.
It is the fault of the recruiters. A similar mistake was made with Ben Lennon who was a similar type player.

Nearly 5% more ToG too.

Jeez the Rayner haters are scraping to come up with material on this thread.

Rayner has no tank but bears the weight of 3.7% more TOG(2.5% in 2022) than Spargo over their respective careers, but this makes Spargo better in comparison.

Rayner is being trusted by his team to attend roughly 30% of CBA’s, whereas Spargo last attended one in the under 9’s, but this also means Spargo is a better player. 🤪

Rayner wins 62% more contested possessions than Spargo in 2022, and more disposals overall, has more effective disposals and a higher disposal efficiency, but this somehow makes Spargo a better player. 😂

I don't.

**** Cripps.

I saw two years of shit served up from "Crippa". Two whole years of deplorable, sub-standard, wouldn't get a game at a Top-8 club footy.
He's played some nice games under Voss now, so what.
Harmes has runs on the board, and a premiership medallion.

I'll have Harmes thank you very much.

I think many people on here like to only judge his playing/athletic ability too much (which is fair mind you) and not focus on the outside factors of the club, in regards to the off-field culture and mindset of our players/coaches.

Given where our club was placed in 2016/2017 (which wasn't very pleasant mind you), I think the club just needed to find players (from drafting & trading) that were positive about moving up to QLD in the first place, and help set a much more positive mindset and culture, not just on-field but off-field as well.

Is he the number 1 player in the 2017 draft at this current time, of course he isn't and is probably around the 15 - 30 pick (if we had the chance to redo it now) and is also probably behind Bailey & Starcevich from our later selections tbh, in terms of playing ability.

But I think the club decided to select Rayner over Bradshaw/Dow/LDU/etc in that draft (and got it right IMO) because he is a very positive person in life and seemed like the perfect person to help mend a culture-fractured club and make it a much more positive one for all players/coaches involved (with the help of Fages/Nobes/etc mind you).

Overall, Hopefully Rayner can continue to improve in his performances this season as well from missing 12 months from that ACL and continue to play his role well for us in seasons to come.

I think that these are all good points. Just with Starcevich and Bailey, along with Rayner they were all tracking fine and looking like they were about to take big steps forward in their 4th years. Bailey and Starcevich did, and Rayner did his knee. All three players are good imo, but I would be confident Rayner is a better player than Starcevich over his career, all things being equal from now on. Bailey I have always watched with interest, because it was very obvious Brisbane were hell bent on getting him. They swapped picks 20(Coleman-Jones) and 25(Balta) to Richmond for the pick 15 that secured Bailey. Based on the draft points index they were swapping 1668 points(more than the value of pick 7) for the 1112 points that pick 15 is worth. So they rated Bailey very highly. And they obviously nailed it, though the trade also worked out very well for Richmond overall.

I think with Rayner just give him this year to catch up, and I fully expect he will be a strong player from about 2023 onwards. How good exactly is tough to tell, but from what I have seen, and allowing for expected improvement, I would think he would will not look out of place as a first round pick.

When you look at that 2017 draft it was a fairly even draft but not overly strong, so the chances of nailing the best player with pick 1 were not great. But Brisbane had a strategy as you outlined and it has shown to be a good one. Something is not quite clicking for them at the moment but it is still very early in the season with a long time to work it out, and I expect them to get better as this year progresses.

??

What bizarre logic.

It is a bit of banter Lavender, don’t take it so seriously. There is an obvious line of division on the thread. Dan is on the bearish side of that line and I am on the bullish side regarding Rayner. You made the post quoted below supporting one of Dan’s points. So from there I thought it followed quite naturally that you are a Rayner hater, on Dan’s side of the debate. But it seems this is wrong and you are actually outside Dan’s tent pissing in, not inside pissing out as it first appeared. Piss away. 😁

I don't know if it supported his point or not, to be honest I wasn't really following it - but it added context to the debate.

100% agree. The recency bias on this guy has been wayyyyy over the top. He has been horrendous for years. I can't unsee that.

If you are providing spurious statistical support to Rayner hater-in-chief danster168 on this thread, then if the cap fits you must wear it Lavender. 😉
Dude, admit it. I caught you out. You tried to blabber some stats and I caught you out. Own the mistake. Rayner has attended 52 more cba's and he averages 0.1 more disposals. That's embarrassing mate. Simply embarrassing.

And why would Spargo be playing in the middle, he's a forward pocket specialist...
