Was single handedly responsible for conceding 2 goals in last min of first half and then tried to bust packs taking on 3 players before inevitably being pinged holding the ball. A self indulgent, selfish display

What was he supposed to do in the htb incident? He had no prior opportunity was tackled within a step of taking possession. Should have been a ball up.

He honestly had his worst game of the year yesterday. It can happen. I hope it spurs him on to knuckle down in the pre season and get his fitness to another level. Let this adversity be the making of him.

What he was supposed t be is exactly what Brisbane needed yesterday - another quality midfielder. Can still get there, but you'd want to see him front up 5kg lighter at the start of pre season.

I still think he has enormous upside, but that as a putrid display on the big stage on Sunday.

For the talent at his disposal, he is absolutely shitting the bed that should be a high quality career.

You'd almost test his trade value he was that bad when it mattered.

Downhill skier is not a term I would use to describe Rayner, that is more a term you would apply to a player who dominates in low stakes games v weak opposition then goes missing when it is tough. Rayner is not like that.

Could not agree more. He's not a downhill skier, he simply fails to strap the skis on at all. Then occasionally gets them out once a year, goes on a black run with his mates who are far better and manages to hold on!

If a Victorian team took him at #1 they would be crucified on here for decades. Funny how when an interstate team takes him he is largely ignored outside of this 1 thread really.

Biggest bust ever for a No1 draft pick.

You would be pretty disappointed if your pick 1 ended up as good as Rayner.

In such a strong side where he has plenty of support very underwhelming.

Why in gods name was he playing in defence on Saturday
He not suited to play in the back half
It’s taking away he’s greatest attribute, which is he’s game breaking forward craft

He was our +1 in defence for a short period, we have been doing this all year. He is a decent intercept mark/crash pack when we want to slow the game down (usually in red time).

Sometimes getting players in the right roles takes time to perfect. It wasn't until Dusty's 8th season he and Richmond found the exact right role for him. Not saying Rayner is the next Dusty, but I am sure he will keep expanding his skills and Brisbane will work out how best to deploy him in all situations.

He has been incrementally improving since coming back from his ACL without taking the huge leap some supporters would like to see. He is also playing in a position which is difficult, in one of the best forward lines in the comp. I genuinely think if he played for someone like North or the Hawks, he would have dominated a lot of games this year as they would be giving him a clearer role and he would be used much more as a target.

I'm sure he will work hard again this off-season and be better next year. He is also a really good dude to have in the team room.

Not sure I'd agree with that. He'd be under much more pressure to perform and based on evidence so far that's not when he's at his best.

Spot on. it was nothing short of embarassing when Brisbane fans came out of the woods when he finally contributed to a football game way back in round 4 and then were radio silent for 20 weeks until his next game. The majority of the time he does nothing, occasionally he does something, rarely he plays well.

You sure you are not a Melbourne supporter?

If you go back a few pages, I was backing Rayner in. However, now I've watched the balance of finals he is an absolute plodder.

Don't get me wrong, he gets a game at most places on potential alone, but for a #1 pick he is a genuine bust of Jack Watts proportions.

He was good playing that role in red time in the first quarter....
