Using BnF as a ranking is silly, especially for a player like Cam. Even more-so when he is in a stacked premiership team.

All we need from him is a quality 15-20 touches that lead to score involvements and scores themselves, which he provides. Throw in his ability to impact finals and you have a quality player that many teams would love to have.
I’m not knocking him as a player only as a number one pick.
All clubs would love to have Cam
But none of them would pay nowhere near pick 1 value in a trade

Trade value and draft pick value are not equal. Draft picks are over valued by a significant margin in the vast majority of cases.

Obviously! if pick 1 takes 7 seasons to get to Role player status

Match winner Rayner. Has attributes few players do which is why so many clubs are offering him big $$$.

Guys like - and I’m just choosing a random player from the comp - Andy Brayshaw are a dime a dozen and can be picked in the rookie draft let alone pick 2. We wanted a match winner and we got one.

lol 6 years. what a horrendous deal. The guy has played 1 above average afl season. The rest poor. This is the first season where people stopped laughing at Cam Rayner but he still isn't rated by many neutrals

Hello Danny, I’ve heard that teams like St Kilda, Melbourne, North, Bulldogs and Essendon were circling with big offers and years - they had recognised his match winning, mvping, AA squading, premiership winning, afl coaches voting ways.

Think of the upside, we get to spend another 6 years with you analysing such an important player.

Yes that’s a type of role player.
The kind that does as little as possible for 70% of each quarter then when everyone is knackered they pull their finger out and look like a star!
Stringer, Elliot are similar
Strange given his main knock is fading out of games. Are you sure you're thinking of Rayner? It sounds more like Mitch Owens

where would you put Rayner. And justify it based on each year that he's been in the system compared to others.
Top 10 (was in the AA squad this year). I think what is important is where he is now and the trajectory he is on. He has proven match winning capabilities unlike many in the list. He is a high impact player so doesn't need to accumulate meaningless stats. He is versatile and great for structure as can play tall and is a bull. I think very importantly he is part of the fabric and culture of his of his club and the guy has signed on to 2031. It is a team game and I think your mob could use a bit more of his ilk.

Totally agree.

Totally agree. Rayner has x factor and is a match winner. He is in the minority where as accumulators are everywhere. This is why I hate comparing stats like some here choose to do.

Role player?

Baffling misuse of the term. Outing yourself as an absolute nuffie.

What part of 12-14 touches and a goal isn't a role player? lol. The guy failed in the midfield, defence, forward so he's had to fill that role as an unfit half forward that gets the 6th best defender each week in a top 4 team as well as give the true midfielders a 2 minute break each quarter.

Fritta kicked as many goals in 1 grand final as Rayner did in all 4 of his finals. :)

He's a role player that made the All Australian squad and won us a Prelim off his own boot.

He's also rated above average or better in every stats category on AFL.com.au for the season and 5/7 for his career.

He was a huge part of our season.

Plus Melbourne have lost the last 4 finals they've played.

Obviously you haven’t been paying attention. His stats should be judged against the best midfielders in the comp, not league averages for his position. He should also have to produce all time seasons to be considered in the top 20 of his draft year, despite being judged in the top 40 or so for the whole comp this year. Hope this helps

Where’s he been since then played in one GF while Rayner played in 2 he’s a good chance to play in a few more years of finals while flogritta plays for a bottom 5 team for the next few seasons
yeah, not much. just 55 goals in 2022.

Very savvy for you to mention team success when comparing the 2. The thing is, if Fritsch played for Brisbane, you would've won 2 flags and that's an undeniable fact.

role players kick match winners all of the time.

whos coming out for fritsch, please tell me so I can laugh
That's like saying who's coming out of the dees midfield to fit Neale. Fritsch has kicked more goals than any other lion in the last 5 years, so all of them. Cameron, Rayner, Daniher has left, Lohmann is a gun but gets the 2nd worst defender after Rayner and clearly Mr.Sub Morris would be a permanent ressies player.

You would've won last years granny by 4 goals.
