That makes 0 sense. I guess Daniher didn't kick the match winner against GWS because he's now retired. Interesting logic.

Once a player retired their numbers remain. Moving to another club means their numbers at the old club are irrelevant. I wish it weren’t so, but I don’t make those rules.

Yeah, the game against Geelong was good, but he owed them a 30 touch, 6 goal game such was his horrific game the week before. He literally was about a -40 point disadvantage against GWS, not only playing like trash, getting nowhere near the ball, but then giving dumb free kick after dumb free kick in clutch moments of the game. Had they lost (which was a 99% probability) it was almost a delisting level sort of performance. He probably is paying Daniher about 500k a year for saving his butt and kicking that goal.

right.

So he lost them the game, but they didn't actually lose and he went on to be a match winner in the PRelim.

I get it!

Not your finest few posts Elixuh. Gotta be up their with some of the weirdest ones I've read.

I wonder if the pies fans are happy for giving up a first round pick for Dan Houston who didn't record any stats last season. lol what the actual. You been hanging out with Joel Smith or something? :)

they didn't actually lose. no thanks to Rayner. He was worth about 3 GWS players that game.

Rayner vs GWS:
8 possessions, 6 clangers.

Does 18 touches (6 clangers) and 2 goals make up for it? Probably not.

lol you're not suggesting he wasn't deplorable against Gws surely!

Don't recall him being particularly good or bad. The entire team was average for 2.5 quarters and then set up a flag with a blistering 45 minutes of footy.

All I know is that he was unbelieveable in the Prelim, and then you throw out rubbish like this:

"Does 18 touches (6 clangers) and 2 goals make up for it? Probably not."

I never looked at his stats after that game, didn't need to look at them to know that he was outstanding. Throwing up stats to try and downgrade what was an incredible Prelim final performance, particularly when the game was on the line and came up clutch just tells me you sit watching the footy looking at live stats, rather than just enjoying the show.

someone might have had 40 touches in that game, but they weren't better than Rayner or Starcevich.

I honestly didn't read past the first sentence. If you didn't recall him being particularly bad then you were probably watching a different game. It was impossible not to notice.

The bad was giving away 2? stupid free kicks when we had the ball was locked into our forward line late in the game. Himmelberg was putting a hard tag on him (it was a very contested moment but he was solely focused on shutting down Rayner) and was completely in Rayner's head. He wasnt playing well and it wasnt a great moment for a guy who is trying to play as a match winner. Danster is right if we had lost that game a lot of the blame would have gone on him. But we won, he was a matchwinner in the next game and the week after. Winners are grinners

Reality is he had a big step forward across the year (hence AA squad and was a big part of getting us the premiership). He still has some issues in consistency (but then again most guys who play that half forward role suffer the same) but looks like things have really started to click for him.

Next year will be another interesting one in how we change the forward line without Daniher. Is Rayner going to step up more as a key target? or will he focus more on the bursts on the forward flank where he looks so dangerous on the ball?

…Even last week when he copped a little bit of criticism for maybe not having the best game, if you watch the tape closely, some of his tackling and his contest work particularly in that last quarter when the game was on the line was absolutely awesome. He’s growing as a player, growing as a leader - he’s really important for us.

Fagan’s thoughts on Rayner V GWS.

I’ll trust the judgment of the premiership coach who knows what Rayner’s role is.

If Danster thinks he knows better - so be it.
