Can we afford to trade, Mitchell, Sewell or Lewis.

dont trade mitchell or sewell. Lewis can be traded if we get someone under pick 30 which I doubt will happen. Would gold coast want him? he is alright but lacks pace and as someone said above, seems to have a bad attitude

Suggesting Mitchell is ridiculous. However I have been of the opinion for a while that we could trade 1 of Sewell, Lewis or Bateman if we were able to get a quality player in return that fits our needs.

Lets be hypothetical but if we could trade Sewell for Bock (assuming he hadn't gone to the GC) or Bateman for Dean Cox I think we would have to look at those trades. If we could trade 1 of those 3 for a quality key defender or a quality ruckman then we should look at it in my opinion.

I'm staggered honestly. Do we really want to trade away established players, including the captain, on the eve of consecutive compromised drafts?

i didnt think id say this but is it time to trade away some big guns like we did with croad and mcpharlin??

If we trade Lewis like people suggest we will get some1 good in return. going on my theory of players performing better when they change clubs, if we were to give up some1 like a lewis and our 1st pick who would we chase that is a gun. I reckon if you trade lewis+a pick should get us some1 who is a star.

Pick 19+lewis+........ for WC pick 4?

I rate lewis and dont want him gone, but its pretty simple that if your side doesnt make atleast 5-6 minimum changes from 1 year to the next, you wont make it.

Collingwood were close last year, this year they have brought in, Jolly, Ball, Blair, Dawes, Reid, Beams, since their lost in last years prelim against Geelong.

We need to make some big decisions this trade period because the group we have wont win us a flag IMO, changes have to be made, the side needs to be shaken up. Get some players in who need to make impressions at a new club.

Exactly. There is no way any of these 3 will go anywhere. They are part of the leadership core and were instrumental in our premiership. As far as trades go, you would need to look at other players.

Lewis, Mitchell and Sewell are 3 of our top possession getters all year. Imagine taking them out. Football suicide.

I don't think we can afford to trade away experienced players with Gold Coast and GWS coming in.

Having said that, if a suitable deal came up you would have to look at it.

Mitchell is one one of the best clearance specialists in the league, Sewell is a tough inside player, and those type of players don't grow on trees. Lewis can be undisciplined and erratic, but he can be brilliant on his day.

Also bear in mind, since the Grand Final, we have lost Dew, Campbell, Croad, Williams (traded) and Crawford, and we still could lose Brown, that is a lot of experience, and we are still one of the youngest teams in the comp.

We need to replenish our players in the 22-28yr age group, preferably a ruckman, and a key position backman. If Tarrant is available, although he is 30, he would be good pick up, as we could get 2 yrs out of him, while waiting for some our young kp backmen to develop.

I would trade Lewis.

Always seems to have a bad attitude to me and is undisciplined.

If we are going to rid ourselves of undisciplined players Buddy would be in the first few out the door if not the first. That free to McPharlin was as ill disciplined as it gets.

I am going to start a "No way to Chris Tarrant" Facebook page if this BS of getting that spud to Hawthorn continues to gain traction. I would rather shift Roughie to fullback, Skipper at CHB (with Bailey back in the ruck), and move Shoey up to the forward line where he made his name as a junior.

In the same way the supporters backlashed against the proposed trade of Campbell Brown last season, Say no to Tarrant.....God forbid that spud ever wears the Brown and Gold.

I agree that we are pretty one-pace in the middle.

In response to the question about should we consider trading those guys, Lewis yes. Mitchell absolutely not. Sewell no, unless the offer was over the odds.

Reasons - Mitchell is our clearance guy. Sewell is our big bodied tagger / accumulator. Hodge is our best player. Lewis is...the guy who has similar attributes to the others, but isn't filling one of those key roles.

This bit is not as outrageous as some may think!

Rough is a fantastic mark and (as long as he is not kicking for a goal) usually a good kick...a bit of height in the backline complimentary with Stratts, Murph and Gibbo and it could be a pretty damn good backline we have!

man... wtf is this thread!

seriously... mitch was fantastic yesterday! tried his heart out... and sewell and lewy never gave in. seriously wat a dumb thread

I think everyone will agree that our midfield is too one-paced and that we need to recruit or trade.

It's a bit uncomfortable though throwing up names at this stage.

Geelong, St Kilda and Collingwood midfields aren't exactly blessed with Speedy Gonzalez and his mates but we don't hear them talking of trading their Ablett's, Hayes' and Swan's. I know we are all of us very disappointed but we need to take a few deep breaths and get a bit of perspective.

Mess with the cameraderie of the main group and sheedy will be in their ears, if he hasnt already.

thats 2011 and 2012 and then theres free agency after that, when anyone who has been with us since 2005 is fair game.

They may have us over a barrell for a few years - but at least we will be in the upper part of the ladder, if not better

Wow. Just wow.

If this the crap I got to look at when logging on bigfooty then I think I might stay away for a while or I might end up with a red card....

Touche' Mac,
I'm not going any further here, ridiculous thread. Problem yesterday was forward pressure & at times any presence at all inside 50.
Our inside & outside mids matched it with Freo more than adequately & it was only a week ago that they shone against the -hate to say it- bbbb...best (yewk)
Anyone thinking Chance is past it needs shooting, his game has been altered over 09 & 10 & should still be considered an untouchable.
F*#k me, for a shit thread I find myself saying more than it deserves!

What Collingwood and Geelong lack in midfield pace they more than make up for with their exceptional depth. These numbers and associated high rotations keep legs fresh and able to successfully run out games. St.kilda tried to address their perceived speed issues by recruiting Peake and Lovett in the off season.

Missing the run &/or elusiveness of Birchall, Hooper & Peterson yesterday we were likely to find the Docker's leg speed a problem on such a big ground. An unfit Hodge, Rioli's hamstring and Ellis leaving us another mid rotation down we did well for it to not blow out to a 10 goal loss.

I hope we see plenty of Duryea, Shiels and Savage in 2011 to add to our midfield stocks. In age they're not far behind Beams, Sidebottom and Wellingham who have added so much to the pies in 2010.
