From 4.20 until 8.30, Carlton / Cripps talk.

Ross Lyon just said as a fact that Cripps was 8kg over weight last year and has got fit and lost that weight this year and that is why he is playing good football. Cripps said in an interview after the first round game that he is exactly the same weiget as last year.

Where do these guys pull this BS from, honestly just do some research or say it as an opinion not as fact.

Yep, so the bloke who couldn’t be bothered interviewing for a role whereby his salary would be pushing towards seven figures has the inside details of what one of the players that plays for that club weighed last year and now this year. He’s a details person is Ross. Leaves no stone unturned.

He fit our need and was expected to be picked around where we were picking so it was a right place right time kind of deal. We needed an inside mid and he was expected to be picked just outside the top 10 right where we were picking so it wasn't like we'd done something special that no one expected.

I'd love to claim it as a draft steal or our genius that found him, but we got lucky with him. I think something in his mindset changed once joining the AFL and perhaps playing a year or so with Judd taught him a lesson in professionalism as he even mentions that he probably didn't prepare the best in his first year or indeed his junior career, carrying what he calls "puppy fat" around.

Also having a ridiculous growth spurt and growing what, 10cm or so after being drafted (?), helps to alleviate those physical limitations. Also him hiring a sprinting coach in an off-season early on seems to have been a gamechanger for him.

We got lucky with the Cripps pick. It was the expected pick for us at the time, but no one thought he'd be what he has become.

I saw a little bit of him playing for WA and he caught my eye. Handball/ contested work was elite and a big size (was already a big lad at 17) made him look really good, but slow and lacked endurance (only a 13.2 on the beep test), and kicking was suss.

Still has the same deficiencies, but worked hard on ironing them out to a great extent (especially his tank which can always be improved), while taking his inside game to a whole new level.

Was always going to go high, but I can understand the wariness some clubs may have had picking him. Was he just a big slow kid dominating against juniors, who was too slow to make it in at fast paced AFL level kind of thing.

How critical was that pick to our club's resurgence? Could easily have come up lemons. Sorry Tiges, he was right there waiting.......

The kick at the 20-25sec mark of the video was so sweet. Evading a tiger and speared it low along the boundary. Top shelf stuff and I commented on it on the day.

Was right in front of me. I am under one of the umbrellas in the background. I moved there when the whole Curnow clan left after Ed got injured)

I was very impressed with his performance. I knew he was an excellent kick already but what pleased me was his attack on the footy and his speed/desperation in defence. Looks a likely type, I think he was just nervous in the practice matches and didn’t really show his true colours. It’s going to be hard to get in ahead of Williams, Saad and Docherty but it’s great to have someone pushing them.

Yep, that's pretty much how I see it, only some sides (like Collingwood, obviously) would have let him slip further. I was slightly non-plussed at the time but not as negative as I usually am, I was just glad we didn't draft Lennon, who I thought was a limited footballer.

Wait in line then Boyd.
