Interesting.

Players that should be within a stoppage: Cripps, Hewitt, Cerra, Kennedy, Walsh, Dow, Carroll, Ed Curnow, Setterfield, Cuningham, Jack Silvagni.
Wings: Walsh, LOB, Cotterel, Newnes, Carroll, Setterfield, Martin, Cerra, Docherty, Saad
Rucks, or ruck capable: Young, Pittonett, De Konig, Jack Silvagni, Cripps(?).

Now, he's probably right that Cripps, Hewitt, Kennedy can't do it all, but we've a list of eleven players who can operate within a stoppage with one combination or another. Setters for Cripps, Ed for Hewitt, Cuningham for Kennedy could be an interesting dynamic; Kennedy, Jack Silvagni, Cerra could also work. Ball winner, run with, impact player; if you look at the roles we're using, there's no reason why we cannot play the way we're playing, to more or less degrees, all season.

The ruck situation's arguably more troubling. Pittonett's the only 'in and bash em, follow up' ruckman we've got, TDK's a leaper and a tap ruckman, Young's a KPD more than he's a ruck, and Jack's undersized even if he's terrific when he's in there (and you could theoretically play around with having smaller players in there or two run withs if he's in the ruck).

We are playing a tough brand which is great.

But I'm not sure our style is any more taxing on our mids than the other top teams like King is suggesting.

Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett are tough ball winners. But the physical toll they'd be getting shouldn't be any more than Oliver/Petracca/Harmes at Melbourne, Neale/Lyons/Robinson at Brisbane etc.

It's just the nature of those players and the role they play. And we have other players like Walsh and Cerra to rotate in the guts, and even part timers like Fish/Setters/Martin if we really felt the need to give those mids a break.

One could even be rested on a given week for Dow or Ed Curnow when ready.

Harry @ 1

He doesn’t leap over tall buildings like the Astronaut and he doesn’t have the aesthetic grace of Charlie Curnow. He just kicks goals.

Last year it was 58 of them in just 19 games with a serious shoulder injury, and the 24-year-old has a nice under-the-radar 7.2 start to 2022.

Charlie @ 5

He’s back. And he’s better. For all his gifts Curnow has never been a renowned goalkicker – 34 from 20 games in 2018, 18 from 11 games in 2019 – but he has his leap back and with the midfield dominance he has a chance to reclaim his mantle as one of footy’s brightest talents.

Jacob Weitering (hic!).... is close to (hic!).... laying claim to (wait, what day is it? HIC!) the best backman in the comp (according to Robbo...)

Unquestionably, Weitering could easily be a two-time All Australian — in 2020 and 2021.

He posted these two outstanding individual seasons despite his cause in defence not being helped by the fact he was playing for the yoyo navy Blues.

Future All Australian jackets beckon.

You build a team around key position players, both in front of and behind the ball, and I think an intercept defender who can stop a key forward is worth his weight in gold.

“He’s unassuming, he’s been a slow build, he has been consistently good in poor sides and now he’s going to stand up for a good side.

Oh BS he’s been a slow build.

He staked his claim on the very first game against Richmond. He was put forward for two seasons but always needed to be that key back.

Don’t buy into this rhetoric regarding Weiters “talls take longer to develop”. Harry, yes; Weiters, no. He’s always been good and now he’s got better.

It’s like the guy has never watched him play.

That HUN article from Robbo… at the end he asks if the Suns had their time again, would they choose Max and Ben King at 2 and 3 rather than Lukosius (can’t spell) and Rankine. I’m struggling to follow his logic. I mean, I get the question on Max King. But why would they want Ben King at 3 when they got him at 6? I’m not sure what he’s trying to say?

So Jonathan Brown thinks we can’t win the flag this year……..Geesh when’s the last time we’ve been spoken about like that.

Last year.

And the year before that...and the year before that...and the year before that. Etc.

The fact commentator's are even debating whether we can win the flag or not is a big compliment in itself compared to where we were at last year. I'm not expecting this is our year but why put a limit on how far we can go. Big jumps have happened before.

Really could of had both kings at 2 and 3 and Bailey Smith at 6. What a haul. Hindsight hey...

Exactly my thoughts. He's been a gun since game 1.

Because if they pick Ben at 6, then they have to pick Bailey Smith at 3.

They chose Ben in front of Bailey, so this is just maintaining the order.

It's like if Carlton had picks 1, 2 and 3 in 2005.... In hindsight we would have picked Murphy, Kennedy, Pendlebury. Even if you think Pendles or Kennedy are the better players.

St Kilda was taking one of the King's if given the chance

I'm not concerned over the course of the season but it does worry me over the course of a match. I think we might be the real deal once we add a bit more class to the 'outside' game, particularly the wings. We might have most of what we need already developing in the twos, but not all. A better Ruckman would help, too.

On the couch stripped our game plan suggesting turnovers are still an issue as opposed to clearances which we’re ranked 1.

We're a work in progress, not a premiership side.

It will take time for new systems to be adapted to full effect.

I still can't help but think that we won the games despite playing poorly (which would have lost in the past) and we can rectify the issues that resulted in team coming back hard at us.

Turnovers in our F50 are better than turnovers in the centre and getting flogged on clearances.

Things to work on, to be sure, but we are not 2020-2021 Carlton. You’d have to be blind to think we are.

They don’t want us to be good! But let’s talk about how brave * are….

Our kick to handball wasn't as good this week - we didn't have enough run and link . Hawthorn meant to be a kicking side had a higher handballl ratio than us -- we went away from what we want to do and tried to kick more to get speed on the ball like we used to / hence a lot of shallow entries getting turned over- still got 4 points ..
