Carlton Offer O'Keefe 1.5 Millon

Let the Blues have him. They got Judd and yet another #1 draft pick last year and they managed to rise all the way to #11. wow. O'Keefe might get them to 10th. But seeing as that is the highest the Blues would have been in many years, i reckon their supporters would love it.

So naive....

You don't see the upside of a young team led by 3 number 1 draft picks?

Stevens retired (presumably)
Fev to the veterans list
Judd apparently on a front ended contract

As bad as Carlton's cap management has been in the past, I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Mate dont let common sense get in the way of a good yarn. 100% correct.

Thanks.
I agree with the system being strange.

For what it's worth, I think Carlton has some pretty smart & shrewd people in the right places around the club and are probably doing a great job at list management. It seems to be the new science.

Looking at your list, Carlton posters may be spot on. You have your high earners, Fev, Judd, etc. Your middle tier earners, Stevens, Thornton, Waite, Fisher (maybe). Then a lot of either talented kids or lower earning mid-aged players.

Hopefully you guys do get O'Keefe, just for the knowledge that the Hawks won't. Great player, but would upset our balance I think.

Probably the most reasonable reply I have ever read from an opposition supporter regarding the Carlton list and salary cap.

I can accept that given past indiscretions Carlton luring quality players will always bring a few cries of disapproval from the unwashed masses (read Collingwood and Richmond supporters:D), but if people look at things logically I think its pretty clear.

Many can't believe that we can fit Judd, Fevola, Stevens, Waite, a handful of mid range players and a string of kids under the cap.

The same poeple don't blink an eye at Geelong with Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Ling, Enright, Chapman, Mooney, Scarlett, Ottens and Johnson all apparently playing for team success.

Same goes for the Hawks list...and no doubt a few other teams as well. List management is perhaps the most important facet in the game. Look at Melbourne...stone, cold motherless last, the most ordinary list by a long stretch, and apparently paying out 100% of the salary cap.

From the great unwashed i agree with you on this, the problems will come when the kids want their slice of the pie and then we will see the list management guys earn their pay. Its not like you guys have many veterans where you can claim half of their contract under the salary cap.

We will suffer from the same problem soon as our "kids" want a slice of the pie. Gold Coast entering the arena wont help with salary cap pressure either.

The thing with Hawthorn and Geelong is that theyre not paying ridiculous amounts ($1mill a year) to any of their players. They didnt have to lure their players from other clubs (bar Ottens and Mooney).

The only big name player we have 'lured' is Judd. Stevens fell to us in the PSD. The point remains that Geelong have 8-10 players who could/should demand big dollars. Carlton have 3.

With pick 24 having already been offered to Fremantle for Warnock, Carlton have offered Sydney pck 40, with the threat of forcing O'Keefe into the PSD if they don't accept.

AFL can investigate if a trade is not fair or not i would not be doing this to the AFL's favourite Child

Here how the story goes.

ROK invites his mates to come up from Melbourne for his engagement earlier this year. He then turns the beer off after two hours and insists they have to pay for the rest of the night.

His battling mates on 50k per year fly up to see him, stay in a hotel then have the beer turned off by their "mate" on 500k per year, so he doesn't have to pay too much.

One thing I know for sure, he will be holding out for every dollar he can get....from whomever!

They definately can, O'Keefe wouldnt do that to Sydney either, its ridiculous to suggest the deal will be pick 40 or Bentick or whoever. IF a trade is done to get O'Keefe to Carlton it will be a pick 6 or same value sort of trade.

However I hope posters here realize the same thing regarding Warnock and Carl/Melb. There will be no Veale Deal, it left the AFL board red faced last time and Angry Andy wont let it happen again.

How about pick 9 and (Hamish Mcintosh, or pick 27) to Carlton for Marc Murphy.

Pick 9 on-traded to Sydney for ROK

Pick 24 to Freo for Warnock??

Not saying it's gonna happen or anything, i for one would be a bit piffed, but these are trades that have been menioned before and there is a rumour floating that a big deal will be done involving the kangas.

As a supporter Id say No, its not a completely outrageous deal I would just much prefer to keep Murphy, he will be an important part of our midfield for many years.

I concur.

Geelong have 9 ALL AUSTRALIANS and other stars. Win almost every game they play.

Carlton have 2 ALL AUSTRALIANS and a bunch of good young kids.

Its pretty simple how the Blues can afford Okeefe etc um we have room!

If Carlton were to get Okeefe, I would offer our pick 6 but would want to swap that with their 1st pick.

We should also offer a player like Thornton or a Fisher.

I would also do a straight swap - Waite for OKeefe

There is NO correllation between All Australians and how much of the salary cap a team pays!!!
Melbourne FC is a prime example. They have Feck all good players, finished 16th, but still pay 100% of their salary cap in wages!!!!!!!

Melbourne had a number of players on their list whose value increased due to finals participation in previous years eg Neitz, Robertson, Holland, Bruce, Green, White etc. Keeping these guys & others, happy would have consumed a good 'chunk' of their salary cap.
