what has this team done to deserve such alot of attention, i know you may say im brnging them more but im really interested.

They didn't win the Wooden Spoon this year just gone, which is surely a sign that Carlton are growing towards merely a rare finals appearance, as opposed to recent years. A large mass of the hype (such as 'premiership contention') that you probably currently observe is likely to be from Carlton supporters themselves anyway, who deem impossibility as nonexistent.

Meh, if any team has been over-hyped this off-season it's not Carlton but it's Richmond, esp since Ben Cousins joined them ..

funny thing is, there will be a lot more pressure on Richmond to peform next year then Carlton, due to all this OTT media and supporter driven hype.

We're expecting to make the 8, but no sane Carlton is talking about Premierships or top 4 possies just yet.

Most of the hype is generated by the supporter base, now that they have placed a top 8 finish as the minimum expectation for 2009.

They have a youthful team and are definitely on the rise.

Having said that I still think they are one injury away from bottoming out and that player is not Judd, rather the Fev.

However, if they do fail to make the finals next season, where to from there? Will questions be asked or will it reflect that perhaps something is or has gone wrong?

Either way,interesting times are ahead for the Blues.

The majority of the hype next season will be around Ben Cousins and Richmond. If The Tigers miss out on a finals berth, expect a meltdown at Punt Rd.

Ok instead of me being ignorant i will actually see what if i was wrong or wright about saying that Carrazzo, Walker and Simpson are guns or duds.

Carrazzo averages 22 disposals a game
Walker averages 15 disposals a game
Simpson averages 16 disposals a game
Stevens averages 23 disposals a game
Murphy averages 20 disposals a game
Gibbs averages 17 disposals a game
Judd averages 24 disposals a game

They are only while at carlton.

So Carrazzo 22 as at max the #5 midfielder. Much easier when not being tagged
Walker and Simpson, with how they go they must not be very good
Murphy is on the right path
Gibbs hasnt proven himself but should this year but still better than Walker and Simpson
Stevens. 28 passing his peak as we type
Judd averaging 24 a game while at carlton while injured. As long as he dosnt damage his shoulders trying to carry Carlton he will be fine. But its harder carrying that midfield than that of West Coasts, At least at West Coast there were 3 others including Cox who took some of the weight off of Judd

Completely incorrect. The hype is generated by you all - the majority of AFL followers. If it was just us, we wouldn't be hyped. People always rate their own team...i'm sure many Melbourne supporters think they are the dog's nuts, but does the media pay much attention to them? No. No one gives a shit about them (currently), so they recieve no hype.

The reason why we are hyped is thus: we have had many years bottoming out, and now are now starting to emerge. This has led most people to expect big things of Carlton, meaning the media places increasing attention upon us. They want to run stories people want to read or are curious about. They want their money, and the AFL plebs want their Carlton fix.

Similar to Ben Cousins and Richmond now. Richmond are hyped because the AFL world is currently obsessed with Ben Cousins. It's not because of their own supporter base.

It's the AFL world which creates the hype, mostly supporters of other clubs. So for all of you who say "no one gives a toss about Carlton".....you couldn't be any more incorrect.
