The father-son team made the huge mistake of giving Luke(?) the final challenge. I reckon the father would have been much, much better at the flags given he seems to be one to pay attention to detail.

Not sure they were told what the challenge exactly was, and given the fathers past of cracking under pressure, they probably felt that was the smartest choice.

Hindsight is a lovely thing though.

Yeah true enough, they didn't know exactly what the challenge was still going to be.

I still maintain that the father would have been much better at it though. Luke could only name about 4 countries lol

If you go by the sun, the girls were a decent distance behind, so local knowledge didn't help them in the end.

The Singapore ferris wheel challenge would have been great early in the series to break a bigger group up, but that just seemed potentially race-killing in the final leg.

And not paying attention to flags as you went? For shame, racers.

It's a load of shit with them knowing everything in Perth as well. Massive advantage. Should have ended it somewhere like Alice Springs.

Can't just end it anywhere - they would want a direct flight from Singapore (and multiple flights soon after one another), no need for connecting flights or driving (to keep the teams close with some certainty), and they'd want to be arriving in daylight hours to keep the leg continuous.

Darwin might have been better from a "no hometowners guarantee" perspective, but from looking at a few timetables there are bugger all direct Singapore-Darwin flights.

It was unfortunate that there was a WA team left in the running through Perth, but it was about the only practical choice.

Grats to Tyler and Nathan. Worthy winners as they were always I believe up in the top 3 at the end of each leg. Great series. Looking forward to the next one.

If I was on the Amazing Race one of the things I would be sure to do would be to note the flag of each country I had gone to. I'm pretty sure that was one of the tasks that was the final challenge in one of the American series. I would have known them anyway as I have an interest in flags and know most of the flags of the world.

Disappointed the father and son didn't win as they were my favourites all race but Tyler and Nathan were deserved winners.

Now to talk my partner into going with me on the next series.:D

Worthy winners, but a poor last leg. Too much luck and never again should the final challenges be in a teams home state.

The last flag challenge was a ripper though.

I think the last leg was perfect. I liked that at the flag challenge anyone of the 3 teams could of won it, much more exciting than having a runaway winner.

Congrats to Nathan and Tyler, worthy winners.

The Ferris Wheel challenge was a joke.
Was hoping the father son team would win but Nathan and Tyler were well deserving winners, even though one of them is a model and probably rich.
The flag challenge was laughable that they didn't know the easy flags like South Africa and Sri Lanka.. I'm still in school and i knew all of them, though would have got confused by Indonesia and Poland.
It was funny seeing Nathan/Tyler and the girls neck and neck on the road but the girls finished a good 1-2 hours after the guys.
Image if TAR thought it would be funny to troll the viewers at home by putting Andy Maher at the finish line and interviewing the boys.
"Hey, you blokes, how do you feel you've won the first ever Amazing Race Australia?" "How are you feeling now?"
Pfft!
Great series and hopefully they spend the money on the next series too.

Thought it was a pretty good final episode with some really interesting tasks that kept all the teams in it right until the end. The flag challenge at the end was good too as it really tested teams memory of the race and general knowledge, you need to have a tough challenge like that at the end.

Nathan and Tyler were deserving winners as they were the strongest team throughout the race and led the whole way in the final. Thought Sam and Renae might have had an advantage in Perth but getting the later flight cost them. Jeff and Luke just made too many dumb mistakes like taking the stairs in the detour rather than walking the tightrope and then using the wrong keys in the Freo jail.

All in all it was a great series, better than a lot of the American ones.

I had no problem with the final leg. Wasn't the greatest episode but hardly deserving of the over-the top negative reaction of some.

never again should the final challenges be in a teams home state.

Do you realise how far in advance the race route and challenges are planned?

Anyway, very good series. Much better than I expected and already missing TAR. Hurry up Seven and get filming!:thumbsu:

Great finish to the series - Nathan and Tyler were deserved winners, they were the best racers over the whole race. Luke and Jeff just made too many mistakes at crucial times. I understand the issue with the local knowledge but as others said, you would need to have teams NOT be from one of the 5 main cities and that would just be impossible.

Overall I liked the challenges - thought the ferris wheel was pure luck, but the flights were always going to even them up.

Excellent last leg, probably the best setup in the whole race. The Ferris wheel was very creative, and very cruel. The keys thing at Freo gaol was probably unintentionally tricky but also added suspense. All teams handled themselves well although I'm a bit puzzled at the father/son team choosing to climb the towers.
The flag thing was a ripper. While there is always something like this at the end of a race now you can't possibly know what to memorise. It could be flags, banknotes, national costume etc. I loved Sam's very Aussie comment "One flag's red with white, the others white with red. That's a bit shit." Well it went something like that and she was laughing as she said it. I wonder if/when they show our race o/s whether they will edit that out? I hope not.

I'm pretty sure there is a rule that over the course of the race teams must do an equal number of Road Blocks, so none of the teams really had a choice who got to do the flags challenge.

I seem to remember that rule being brought in on the American one a few years ago to stop one team member hogging all the Road Blocks.

For some reason i think ive seen the rope between the towers challenge on the U.S version, maybe it was a different country but my first thought when they showed it was its been done before. Not fussed because it was good one to have at that point.

Agree with wheel being too much pot luck, maybe should of just had every second cabin with an envelope, unless they had to use up time between the airport being open and not wanting every team on the same flight to Perth. The flags was fantastic. Home state advantage, meh, hard to avoid.

Awesome series, looking forward to the next one. :thumbsu:

The last flag challenge was a ripper though.

You reckon?? I thought it was a bit boring, kinda like the same old stuff we've seen in the American series in the final challenges they have. Was slightly disappointed... also was disappointing cause it was obvious the surfers were going to get it The other two teams had no freaken idea!!!! Was very anti-climactic.

Apparently only about 20 minutes between 1st and 2nd, so it actually was quite close.

How can this be the case, the girls finished the race in complete darkness????

As for the episode as a whole, i didnt mind the challenges too much. I can understand why people hate the whole luck concept- but eh, whatever. Deserving team won in the end.

Dam that ferris wheel task would have been bloody frustrating. I've been on the London Eye, it goes SO slowly around. Going on it, what 5 times in a row, even more, would have been so frustrating, lol.

Nathan and Tyler talking back to the recording was gold and you could just see the son getting more and more pissed being locked in the capsule with his Dad talking shit about the landmarks.

The flag challenge was great.

Contestants know that the last challenge is always a memory/knowledge challenge and try to study for it, but I can't remember ever seeing a flag challenge before.

The added twist was that there was more flags than they actually needed, which just added to the difficulty.

I also think that Jeff would have been better off doing it. Although he panicks at times, he can usually think things through.

Great series, very happy that Ch.7 didn't destroy what is one of, if not, the best reality shows on TV.

PS - I hope Grant loosens up a bit on the next series.

The flag challenge has definitely been on the US version. I remember they had a big field full of them and they had to go through and find the correct ones and place them in the correct order.

EDIT: They had 285 flags to choose from. No way of using permutations for that one.

PS - I hope Grant loosens up a bit on the next series.

Far out, his address to the boys when the came up to the mat was VERY underwhelming.

Jesus, some excitement wouldnt have gone astray.

Better yet, get Phil to host our series. :thumbsu:

(Also just a small critic, didnt like the other contestants behind the finishing mat. Better to have them as a "guard of honour" as the teams run up imo)

I love those American final challenges. They are awesome.

How can this be the case, the girls finished the race in complete darkness????

The boys coming in just as the sun was setting, hence still light, and the girls coming just after? I'm just relaying the information a guy gave on the Whirlpool forums, as he watched the last episode with Mo and Mos.

Kk fair enuff.

Well then are we thinking the girls (and the Father Son) got a helping hand (aka the ice hockey challenge), cause they had NO idea about the flags. I think Sam had at least 5-6 wrong when the boys left.

Well I'm guessing it took them 45-60 minutes after the boys left for the girls to complete the flag challenge. And then making up 15-20 minutes on the car drive. That puts them 25-30'ish minutes behind the winners, which matches up I suppose.

And then the father/son team maybe another 45 minutes after that.
