You seem to be across most rule changes. They said on the coverage yesterday that Port had the Max allowed of AFL players playing. 16+ Sutcliffe. Thought that rule was for finals only. Were the commentators wrong

Yes, remember that game it was that dark you could hardly see, you can actually find the last quarter on YouTube. Unfortunately not many other videos from 1980 have been kept.
