Then eagles pay up

I remember you telling me how i dont know how trades work during the Baker trade
that went well

Eagles will pay through the nose for Warner ' IF' Warner doesnt stay at Sydney or select fremantle
Lol, I don't think so.

After the backlash to the Baker trade(which ultimately ended up better for the team, ironically) the club will be fully aware someone competent is required to negotiate. They also know they don't need to 'pay up' to avoid Sydney sending him to the draft, because Sydney won't do that simply to not piss off Warner's manager.

Players who enter the draft end up getting to where they want to go. We know this.

Yup.
I don’t doubt the validity of the claim.

But I’m astounded they decided the list manager who was recruited to do a job was effectively told not to do it.

It sounds like Clarke has lost the trust of the bloke that hired him.

But some have now in this thread also lauded his ability to turn pick three into Baker, Allan and Gross and also get Owies and Graham across.

Seems to be the cat the fans like to kick when they aren’t happy.

I think the story was that he was sent out because he lost his cool, I imagine he was probably starting to get a bit aggro at this point. So it seems like it was more that someone else stepped in because they needed a reset.

Here's hoping he learns from this trade period and has a better one this year.

As a swans fan I’d be happy for them to send him to the draft on principle. And that’s nothing against Chad.

We have free agency conditions for a reason. Chad has not reached free agency and therefore has no real right to dictate where he plays. I’d rather cop the hit and lose picks and send Warner to the draft than get reemed in a deal.

Not only do players hold all the power but they’re choice of club dictates what their original club will get.

We (well most anyway) are supporters of clubs. While it may cost initially I’d rather a club take a stand and wrestle back power from the players. The lasting effects would be massive in player negotiations if a player of warners calibre ended up at north.

If you want to choose where you play, qualify for free agency, other wise try your luck

I think supporters of all clubs would love to see our respective teams make a stand at some point, we all hate losing beloved players.

But this really wouldn't be the trade to do it over. Say West Coast's 2024 R1 wasn't involved - you would still be getting Hawth R1 (10 - 16?) and our future first (4 - 8?). That's hardly a rip off.
I mean in a sense you're always ripped off when losing a star, it's never fair value, but in terms of the price usually paid for players, West Coast's culture seems to be one of never ripping off other clubs - but yeah I'm a bit torn on whether that means we HAVE to give our best pick if we are able to give equivalent value other ways.

You also have to understand that West Coast supporters may have a particular view on this for a reason - when we lost Judd (who has a case for being the Goat) we didn't even manage to get Carlton's best pick.
