Out: Jonas, Lycett, Mead, DBJ, Burgoyne, Lord
In: Pasini, Hayes, JHF (or Jackson if JHF not fit), Rioli, Narkle, Dixon

Bergman should be on notice that his form post new contract hasn’t been good enough.

The only guys who had good games were Houston, Rozee and Drew. Marshall was par with his three goals. Duursma was off the pace but should benefit from the game and accumilated some possessions. Burgouyne did some nice things and has a future but he needs time in the gym to get some power into his game. McKenzie missing was crucial (he's missed three games this year and they are the only ones we've lost). Jonas was largely ineffective as a replacement, even when McKay going down spared him guarding a tall.

Mead was very disappointing and I am starting to see why others on here say he has no future. He was nowhere near the standard tonight. Lord had some good moments and should have kicked 5 goals instead of 1 goal 2 points and two complete misses from 35m. If he cant kick them under the roof at Marvel he's got serious flaws in his technique but if Charlie is still lame then he has to play.

Ins: Rioli (for DBJ), JHF (in for Butters if back is slightly better) , McKenzie (if fit for Jonas other wise promote Burton), Dixon (for Lord if fit enough to compete), Bonner (replaces Burgoyne), Fantasia (for Mead). Jackson to be sub if either JHF or McKenzie fails to get up.
Outs: DBJ (concussion), Butters (groin), Mead (omitted), Jonas (omitted), Burgoyne (omitted), Lord (omitted if Dixon is available)

Mead and Jonas need to go first and foremost. Neither offered anything useful today in any capacity. Jonas is not worth the hassle of changing the defensive structure completely to accommodate him, and Collingwood do not have a massive forward line. I would be bringing in Burton for Jonas without hesitation. As for Mead, seems pretty straight forward that Rioli comes back in for him. With DBJ out due to concussion, this further opens up another spot in the forward line. I will probably cop heat for this, but Fantasia should get this spot. He's never going to be a high possession player but he knows how to pull a goal out of his arse from nothing, and Port don't have enough of those types in the forward line. Assuming Dixon's ankle has calmed down he comes in for Lord. Highly doubt JHF will be back next week so I am not even considering him in the context of this post. Boak will have to be monitored given the massive hit he took to the back by McGovern. If he comes out Bonner should get his spot given his solid performance on the wing today for the Maggies.

So all up:

Lord out for Dixon
Mead out for Rioli
DBJ out for Fantasia
Jonas out for Burton
Boak as a possible out for Bonner depending on health
Narkle to be the sub.

So we have the depth of Clurey and Georgiades out for the year, Scully and Pasini aren't ready or performing, so our key position options are limited to what played or the recovery of Dixon and McKenzie. Lord and Finlayson are terrible set shots, particularly the former whose a good kid but shouldn't be playing on this home stretch. Jonas is just out there fumbling under any pressure , spoiling indiscriminately to our detriment, and unable to compete in the air or intercept. Burton has fallen way out of form.

McKenzie looking like another couple away with that ankle, Dixon has been limping for weeks and then inexplicably was played in the ruck hurting himself more last week.

JHF just doesn't appear to be moving well around the ground and we now know has some back issue. Butters has faded and appears to have a groin issue. Wines is still a shell of himself with that knee issue. Boak continues to get banged up and is suffering from old age reflexes and inconsistent game time. Duurs only just returning and working into it. Meanwhile Lycett is carrying something and appears our only ruck option who needs to survive the season from here for us to do anything.

McEntee has fallen out of form completely. Should be dropped, but now with DBJ out with injury we'll have to call on Fantasia to replace him who can't handle the contested game at all. SPP is off the boil as well, the heart of our team hasn't fired in a few weeks and needs to lift. Meanwhile Mead should never have been picked as a small forward, a horrendous coaching call. He's a deer in the headlights out there, just doesn't play with any shred of belief, makes comical errors by foot when his skills are all he is picked for, then when the ball is in dispute he plays soft, desireless, belief less footy, never winning contests.

There's concerns everywhere and other injuries and concerns around the place.

We're limping to the line a bit here, we just need to find a way to fluke a couple of these next 3 and stay injury free to open up the run home.

This week:

IN: Dixon, Rioli, JHF, Burton, Bonner, Fantasia (sub)
OUT: Lord, DBJ, Mead, Jonas, Burgoyne

Boak has been fumbly and not able to get the low ball since the bye

The end has come fast for Trav. I hope the proud man calls it this year. The speed of the current game is frightening and he actually looks slower each week at this point.

Imagine making the GF this year and having Trav,Robbie and TJ in the stands.

Agree. He’s also been hit hard sitting under high balls two times this year by McGoverns and a third when bumped by Viney. It’s the going to ground which signals his ageing legs and mindset. We have to look for alternatives relatively soon.

Jackson and Sinn need to be ready to play midfield minutes alongside of Butters, Rozee, JHF, Drew and Duursma come round 1 next year. I’d be looking at getting Bergman back in there too.

Aside from next week, does anybody feel it’s this year or bust?

Boak nearly done

Lycett nearly done

Dixon nearly done

Jonas cooked

Orazio cant stay fit

Backline suspect

I mean we are having a great year but I’m concerned there will be a drop off.

Also, if we can manufacture a new coach then there will be a new system there too.

I feel the exact opposite

Those guys you list had many chances and could never get it done. They're being replaced by a crop of blokes that are hungrier and more talented, and hopefully with a far superior coaching box (assuming we go Hinkley -> Carr at the end of the year).

It all depends on what’s there to replace them.

Hugh Jackson should get a game.

If JHF is still out he has to be rewarded in form. Arguably been our best player in the ressies this year.

What I want:
Out:
Jonas, Mead, McEntee, Burgoyne, Duursma, Lycett, Lord.
In:
Burton, Jackson, Rioli, Narkle, JHF, Hayes, Dixon

What I can see Hinkley doing:
Out:
Mead, Lord
In:
Bonner, Dixon

Too early to tell yet, we have to wait and see who is available. At this stage it looks like JHF will miss another week and the jury is still out on Dixon and there are a couple of worrying possible injuries out of last night's game to consider.

Rioli should return and on yesterday's performance Hugh Jackson must be a chance. Unfortunately McKenzie is still injured and Clurey is out for the year so Jonas looks to be the only alternative. On what I have seen of the SANFL this year Pasini is not up to AFL standard. Maybe try Burton in Jonas' place then again he isn't in great form either.

I am not sure what Quinton Narkle did to Ken and Co but he is a better player than a couple we had in last night's side and I think Hugh Jackson has to be close to a call up.

Ollie Lord and Jackson Mead would not make our best side and I do not share the new found enthusiasm for Jed Mc Entee either. Miles Bergmann's recent form is a mystery and I can only think that he is carrying an injury and also needs a rest.

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious we have run into a raft of injuries and poor form do not have enough depth in the list to cover the gaps. We have an interesting week ahead.

Lord out for Dixon
Mead out for Rioli
DBJ out for Jackson
Jonas out for Burton
The more I think about it, the more I would like Pasini to come in for Jonas.
Yes, it’s against Collingwood but we won’t be able to get anywhere near the ultimate prize this year if our only two tall defenders are Aliir and McKenzie. We need at least one tall option to support them who’s not going to set us back with negative influence on his teammates’ games.

We’re unlikely to beat Collingwood and with injury clouds over our key players - Butters, JHF, Dixon, McKenzie - we may even get another thrashing against them as they’ll want to bury our noses in it and shatter us before finals. So let’s learn something about our list now that we don’t already know. It won’t be worse than yesterday - may be as bad, but not worse:

Out: DBJ
In: Rioli

Out: Jonas
In: Pasini

Out: Lord
In: Dixon (if fit)

Out: Mead
In: JHF (if fit, otherwise Jackson)

Borderline changes:
Burgoyne for Jackson

McEntee for Evans or Fantasia

A very good summation of our current predicament regarding injuries, loss of form and players currently not up to AFL standard. I
