Did you see McKenzie on crutches after the game last week?

Dixon hobbling around for weeks.

I hope I'm just missing the sarcasm.

Dixon has been hobbling around for years. He played the game out.

McKenzie has a history of looking like he's done a serious injury and then playing the next week. The scans showed no damage.

Both would've played if it were a final.

But this is AFL football and the only thing that matters in AFL football is winning games. You should put your best team on the park who have the greatest ability to win games.

And to be honest, I still don't even see exactly what was so bad about Burton's performances in previous weeks. It's not like he was playing at Jonas levels. He was serviceable and as we now know, serviceable at AFL level is actually pretty good.

The only thing that matters is winning finals - and you need as many players as you can playing at their best. If we drop a few blokes in the lead up and they improve their output going into finals as a result, then we're better for it.

He wasn't playing Jonas levels, but he's been a shell of the player he was in previous seasons.

An in form Burton makes us so much better, as was Bonner.

It's a longer term play with finals in mind, not just for one game. I have no issue with it.

Don't be surprised, if Collingwood do the same thing this week against you. They would see the trip to Adelaide as an inconvenience and would be aiming at carlton the week after wouldn't surprise if they rest a couple of stars this week. Play your strongest side possible and try and lock up top 2.
Trouble is their second tier players are better than ours with the talent around them. Dixon and Lycett are knocked up, JHF and McKenzie injured. DBJ will miss a week for concussion.

But when the club lists a player as being out for 2-3 weeks and that gets pushed out to longer, they get accused of lying to the members and hiding shit.

Those guys are out because they need to be. They come back too early and injure themselves further before finals and everyone will want heads to roll.

Lycett

12 disposals.
3 tackles.
13 pressure acts.
28 hit outs.
101 minutes on ground.
25 centre bounce contests.
73 ruck contests.

He is pretty much a sure thing to keep going around until we have a better option.

Or the players were too banged up to play this week and potentially next.

It happens. The timing sucks but it is what it is.

We're unlikely to regain more than maybe one of JHF, Dixon, McKenzie. That's three very important players.

Lycett still looks injured and that's the one decision I don't understand - why did we rush him back.
Thats what Im saying. We could have pushed them through to get a win against Carlton but they would then need to rest against the Pies or Crows which we see as more important.

Aside from next week, does anybody feel it’s this year or bust?

Boak nearly done

Lycett nearly done

Dixon nearly done

Jonas cooked

Orazio cant stay fit

Backline suspect

I mean we are having a great year but I’m concerned there will be a drop off.

Also, if we can manufacture a new coach then there will be a new system there too.
The fact we are contending this year has surprised. The 13 wins in a row have covered the multiple cracks that were ever present in round 2,3 and yesterday. Port are now too banged up to even challenge. Yes will make finals but will go out in straight sets. As long as Hinkley is gone at seasons end I can cope with this outcome. A new coach needs to come in with a broom and build a team around the likes of Rozee, Butters, Houston, JHF, Allir and Marshall. Plus the likes of Bassett need to be marched off into the sunset. The Hinkley era and all those involved need to be gone at the end of the season.

Absolute Best Case Scenarion

Dixon for Lord
Rioli for DBJ
Burton for Burgoyne
McKenzie for Jonas
JHF for Mead
Fantasia for McEntee
Realistically, apart from dbj coming back post concussion that would be our best 22 on the field. It may not happen this week, we can get that group up and running before finals anything could happen.

The issue with making a ridiculous amount of changes is more often than not it doesn’t work. 3 changes is about as many as you’d want to do any game. But now that we’ve done it and it’s backfired, we are going to have to make a heap of changes again to try and search for answers. And so all the stability and team harmony we built up over the last 13 games is gone in a instance.

what a momentum killer

I would go in no changes this week and then switch back to a winning formula the following week

losing against the pies with a rabble squad will not impact the minds of the players in september. losing with our best line up will have the players questioning themselves.

People are still defending Lycett after Tom de Koning, a maligned beanpole that is probably on his way out of Carlton, had a decisively career best performance against him.

Go Crazy Wtf GIF

Well we are kind of screwed this week then, as we need to fix the mess that was created this week and it will take more than 3 changes.

I think you overestimating most of the sides below you and around u on the ladder. I'm not saying you will win the flag but you are a chance and can't see you going out in straight sets. The sides that will make up the bottom four of the eight all have their issues, west bull, St kilda, ess, even geel who are playing well now but will run out of steam come sept. Bris are soft.
I only see coll and melb as threats to you. The side with the right mind set and least injuries will win it.
