Briggs definitely got on top at times, primused him, but Hayes fought back well given injury & gave our mids something & was surprisingly good/ skilful around the ground, 3 contested marks, 13 disposals at 92% de.
I like Dante too.
All the games teakle got & the games Lycett played since the bye should have gone to Hayes/ Dante

There's certainly a pattern on this board of Teakle bashers doing so with facts and statistics, and Hayes bashers doing so with dumbass statements like the above or the other dumbass from yesterday who claims he gets subbed off 'all the time' when last week was literally the first time he's ever been subbed off.

Subbed off or rested on the bench for the majority of the last quarter and a half....its much of a muchness.

He's still got 2 weeks until he's fit to play.
And four weeks to our first final
McEntee has only kicked two more goals than me since the bye. He hasn't produced 'much more' than my fat arse sitting in the stands eating a hotdog, let alone Hayes.
McEntee has played 18 games where his stats averages are;
Goals 0.7
Marks 1.7
Tackles 2.6
Kicks 4.4
H/balls 4.5

Briggs vs Hayes.....compare the pair. Quarters are not played for 6 minutes.
Great, when we have Briggs on our list we'll play him over Hayes. But for now we're comparing Hayes to Teakle, Lycett and Visentini, all of whom he's much better than (although Visentini is at least young enough that he might have some promise for the future).

Checks game day stats.

Hitouts, GWS 38 to PA 16, that's a roggering on anyones book friend :)

No I'm on the record as arguing hit outs are the most useless stat there is and they are at the back end of KPIs.

There were 94 ruck contests.

GWS got 38 of which maybe 20 went to advantage?

That is 74 ruck contests that either went to Port or to ground and a contest where we had an advantage.

I maybe sometimes aren't as supportive of Sam as some people here and my views on the role of the Ruck may differ from others but for the time Sam Hayes was on the ground he did an outstanding job.

Even going of at 3/4 time when the game was over and he was in obvious distress with his arm was perfectly ok. The game was over he had done enough.

Hit outs are an absolutely nothing KPI and I've argued it then its been used to defend Sam when his hit out numbers have been high.

Go though the stats of every game this year and look where hit out numbers get you.
You look smarter losing them.

In the past month, only four players in the AFL have bettered GWS ruckman Kieren Briggs in Champion Data's Ratings Points.
Briggs, a local NSW academy kid and a prodigy of the Mummy, has been a big surprise for GWS and is the main reason they are playing for a finals spot.
Since replacing Matt Flynn, Briggs has rapidly emerged as not just a permanent option for Greater Western Sydney, but a clear ruckman on the rise.

He has been so good that Matt Flynn is on our short-list of trades for possible ruckmen next year (not rated No# 1 at their Club).

Agree, hit outs are meaningless when you have a midfield that’s dominating.

So, point is. Why play Hayes if that’s his only strength.

A body at the player and the ball. Wreck the contest and have the ball come to ground and find a way to get between Briggs and the ball while Rozee and Butters clean up the mess.

I rate Briggs as the most effective ruck in the AFL. He loses tap numbers every week. Brilliant once it comes to clearances.

Briggs 7 clearances while good could have very easily been something completely ridiculous had we not had Hayes throwing his body in.

Hayes couldn't feel his arm and did not have a snowballs chance in Hell of being able to effectively tap the ball. He was just a body at the contest.

You can argue why not Teakle and that's what probably would have happened had Hayes not put his hand up but maybe Port rate Hayes a bit higher as far as positioning goes?

Hayes does have good core strength as well.

It’s hard to defend the stats. Briggs had 31 HOs at 64 ruck contests from 80% game time, Hayes collected 12 HOs from 44 ruck contests and 59% game time.

I couldn’t find any stats that go head to head, but the take away is probably Port’s second line (Finlayson and Lord) would have been smoked by Briggs if Hayes didn’t play. They combined for 4 HOs from 34 appearances.

Playing Hayes was 100% the right call and Hayes was clearly hampered by his shoulder. I actually think he did really well considering the circumstances.

I do however, think Visinteni, if fit, would be a better option on the fast deck of Optus stadium.

Well said; I admired what Hayes did and I hope it was enough for him to jag a contact for next year.
Winning that game gave us a top four finish, winning this weekend could be enough for top two.

This season has been fair dinkum unbelievable, at the start of the season not even in my widest dream did I ever consider Port a chance for top two.

Dante if fit is our best Ruck option bar none. I would error on the side of caution though any muscle tear minor or not is 2 weeks. ( I don't trust our medical reports)

I keep liking his preparation thoroughbred stayer. He doesn't play though pain yet and we pick his fights.

Dante chance to play this week interesting Hayes not on the injury list...

"Imaging showed he has sustained a minor strain, with the 20-year-old set to be tested in the coming days to determine his eligibility for selection."
