I don't understand how some here are calling for Jones out. It isn't even a difficult decision, if fit he stays. One of our most dynamic players and best tackler in the team this year.
Despite a slightly lower output last week, any of Waterman , Langdon and Nelson go out before Jones. Waterman the most likely.

Don’t bring all the mids in at once, that’s a recipe for disaster. Kelly’s probably right to go. Make a call on which of Shuey and Yeo is most ready and then give the other one a run in the WAFL. Along with Cripps.
This is a fair call and it's likely West is the one who gets the reprieve in this case.

I'd still be inclined to bring Shuey purely as a forward, which would be in place of Langdon.

It’s based more on what would like to happen, rather than what I think will happen :(

Backs: Barrass, Gov, Hurn, Witherden, Duggan, Foley, Hough
Mids: Kelly, Redden, Naish, West, O’Neill, Shuey or Yeo
Rucks: Williams, Dixon
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Ryan, Rioli, Langdon, Jones, SPS
Sub: Nelson
Emergencies: Waterman, Hedwards, Petruccelle
What's great about this list, is it's a good balance of last weeks youth or 'no name' heroes and our senior players...West is an enigma, lacks polish, but full of intent - improved by more AFL game time or back to Beagles?

Be hard to throw out Langdon after last weeks effort...or Nelson..Jones was a touch off in efficiency, bull at a gate though..might need a recharge in the WAFL.

Agree, he was awesome in the first quarter, maybe first half against Roos. But then he disappeared. I think he needs to build some match fitness with a game or 2 in WAFL before coming back in. We cant afford to have a player who cant run out 4 quarters, even one as good as Kelly.

Kelly had recovered from Covid so good effort to go out and play but eventually ran out steam ..

I can't speak for others, but I think he is an out this week to give him some recovery time. Looked sire on the weekend.

Kelly for JJ isn't a bad swap. Shuey for Ledwards, Yeo for West (unlucky but it is an upgrade).

Williams or Strnadica in for Nic.

Those 4 changes seem relatively straightforward (unless JJ is fine, in which case that one is more difficult).

I agree with the calls to send Cripps via WAFL. SPS should too as he's been playing sore - we finally have personnel available, which creates the next issue of continuity, so giving a little extra time to some recovering players seems a good option.

I wasn't referring to his age, but rather that he's not a first choice ruckman and not likely to ever be.

We've got folks wanting to use an early draft pick on a developing ruckman, meanwhile Williams is on our list and we don't want to see if he can cut it. Seems a wasted opportunity with NN down if we don't give the yuff a shot.

There is basically 2 years difference between them. Why does Bailey get a chance to show if he can cut it but Strnadica doesn't?

Whoever has earned it and is more likely to succeed in the eyes of the match committee gets the role.

We brought Strnadica on as ruck cover - externally it seemed like for the exact situation we are now in (Nic out for an extended period). If he's fit, and if that was the thinking behind his recruitment, then I think he should play this weekend.

Joining the chorus of hoping Cripps comes back through the WAFL.

I’m not overly fussed about bringing all of Shuey, TK and Yeo in. Both Shuey and TK have played at least one AFL game, Yeo had WAFL last week and in his and TK’s case, both had really strong preseasons. With NN out, I can see the match committee bringing all three in to bolster the midfield.

But Mr Cripps, no. To the WAFL with you. For a week at least 👍

Your spot on. Personally I think Nelson should go. Butchers the ball most times. I'm still a fan he has some good attributes however until he can learn to kick.

lol at anyone suggesting not bringing back:
  • Kelly: recovered from a the virus, 2-3 weeks ago, fit (provided hamstring is good)
  • Shuey: recovered from virus, took an extra week off, was fit enough for round 2
  • Yeo: 70 minutes in WAFL. Would be good for at least 90 minutes this week, and at worst plays sub

We lost inside 50s 60-40 with NN, despite the brilliant effort those stats will win one game in 10. Sad that someone has to come out from the winning side but Edwards (injured), Waterman, Nelson, Hough, Rotham, West, O'Neill but the above players are better players than you. I would have more midfield rotations and rotate Kelly, Yeo, Rioli, JJ between on ball and forward so none of them run out of gas and we maintain forward pressure.

For me:
Out: Edwards (injured), NN (injured), Waterman, Nelson/Hough, Rotham
In: Shuey, B.Williams, Yeo, Kelly (Petrecelle sub)

Langdon was too clean last week to drop. I'd like Petrecelle in too but think West and O'Neill should get another shot but I think they're going to end up being dumped on half forward flank with the midfield ins - that's why more mid rotations are key

Only way Jones is out is injury / HSP. Saying that it does look if he has picked up a niggle and has been limping aroung late in games. Happy to rest him if sore but if he is fit thenkeep playing him this season. Need to help him have a breakout season this year so he keeps improving.

We should play Nelson as a tagger / defensive mid every game. Then pray he does well enough to encourage another team to get him as a rfa and we get a 3rd round compo pick this year.

Even good sides need cheap, defensive role players who are ready to go round 1.

So what I think your saying is that Jones didn't play well last well but he has enough CreDIt$ iN tHE b@Nk that he should be selected ahead of Langdon who played really well last week?

JJ has been banged up a bit in the last few games. He is very light weight for a mid, and although I really like him, I reckon he is being found out in that regard. He needs to get stronger.

If you think Langdon offers more than JJ on pretty much any given day then that says a bit about your judgement. JJ is hardly a Simmo favourite. He is still in the fringe category but rapidly breaking into the must pick bracket.
Jones wasn't bad last week but definitely down on his previous games, probably a result of missing a week.
Backing a class player who had a slightly down day due to first game back and getting an early head knock is not credits, it's sensible selection.
As much as I loved Langdon's game, and I also believe he has being playing well for a while now, JJ is a much higher chance to play an influential role than Langdon. In any case I called for Waterman to miss.

He's not a mid but, he is a small forward/ half back type that can be used to run through the middle in bursts to use his pace to provide outside run and busts from congestion. Brute strength won't ever be his go, it is speed, pressure and skill he brings.
As I said in my first post (and seems to have been missed by a number of posters) IF FIT, he plays.

Nah, its becuase Nelson doesn't have enough CreDIt$ iN tHE b@Nk. Sure, he makes some mistakes by foot that everyone notices but he is actually a pretty good kick most of the time.

Selected stats for this season to date:

Willie Rioli 17 clangers from 44 disposals (massives gatorade soaked BigFooty credits in the bank)
Luke Foley 17 clangers from 65 disposals (medium BigFooty credits in the bank)
Jackson Nelson 9 clangers from 50 disposals (slipped over and dropped his credits before he got to the bank)
Brady Hough 9 clangers from 37 disposals (lots of BigFooty "shiny-new-thing" credits in the bank)

The logical conclusion being we should drop Nelson because he "butchers the ball most times"
