Not really thread related, but just saw the video posted on AFC with Shane Tongerie's highlight reel. I have no recollection of this guy, so looked him up on afltables.com. Played 4 games for us in 1994. Kicked 3.3 against Brisbane in his first game (R6), but followed it up with just 2 kicks against Essendon in the next game (R8 - R7 was a bye for us). R10 was his last...

However, not a bad effort, a Brownlow vote in your debut. Anyone know of anyone else to achieve this feat?

Matt Rowell was potentially leading the Brownlow in his first handful of games.

This might be a really out there suggestion, but just go with me for a second.

I like a lot of you must be, am genuinely concerned about Rory Sloane. I just don't see the same player that use to tear up games, and drag his team over the line anymore. He's been played in the middle, on the wing, up forward and he just can't get himself into the game in any position. And whats worse, his presence seems to almost always co-incide with out midfield failing now.

Would it be the worst option to trial him in the Tom Doedee 3rd up defender role for the remainder of the season? Tom's injured, McAsey hasn't stolen the job, Kelly is no-where near it, and none of the other young players seem able to naturally read the ball in flight well enough to play the role successfully.

Rory on the other hand is a very good reader of the ball in flight, is courageous enough to back into the pack, and has a very strong mark. Plus sending him behind the ball and give him a much simpler role (i.e. stop this man, and intercept every high ball you can) might get him playing more consistent footy again, and boost his confidence.

Its not unheard of with older players either, McLeod did it, so did Hodge. Both star mids who re-invented themselves in the late stages of their career. At this point we need to find a role for Rory, because that contract is looking like a potential albatross!

The moment Rory moves out of the midfield, that contract is an albatross. Still, we can wear it without too much discomfort.

It's not the worse idea, and it would allow us to trial Doedee elsewhere, seeing I'd like him to be more than just an intercept defender if he is going to be captain. I'm not a huge fan of the captaincy coming from a position which could be used to develop players, which is the potential risk with Doedee long term.

Round 6 1994 was a great game. A deserved Brownlow vote Tongerie in a strong Crows comeback. Only poor Camera work prevented a great Modra mark in the final quarter from being considered one of the greatest ever, instead we get Ablett Sr vaguely waving his arms near the ball.

Barlow didn't get any votes in his debut. It wouldn't have been a disgrace though, he was considered a genuine Brownlow medal chance in his debut year until breaking his leg.

Double spoiler - R1 2010 at Subiaco, Freo 17.16.118 d Ad 9.8.62. Barlow kicks 2.1 on debut, Brownlow 3-2-1 to Sandi, Mundy, and Tuesdy*.

*(Isn't Tuesdy Pav night at your house too? - Nah, just kidding. It's not at our house either. It's every night at Tex and Fog's house...)

are they teams announced back on the normal Thursday this week?

some Thursday night melts will be good to have some 'normalcy' about the place

Extra spicy for when they just add 4 people to the squad and no one is yet to be officially dropped

Yes extended squads named tonight

Actually I'm not sure now, I heard it mentioned on radio this morning, but 5aa hasn't mentioned having the team's before 6 at all.

Doesn't look like it at the moment. This has ruined my Thursday.

Didnt Paul Salmon get maximum votes in his first 3 games?

Mackay was close to One Brownlow Vote, he got zero.

Over his career however, he has so far drawn level with Tongerie's Brownlow career votes.
