You guys have forgotten what this season is about. We don't need to be thinking week-to-week: bring in player x to account for y or z in our opposition, yet. We should still be developing the team, getting players playing the right positions and getting new players used to the new team mates and style of play. As well as developing said game-style.

Case in point: Joel Mac. Needs to play a lot of games with our guys like Frawley, Warnock, Grimes, Garland etc etc because he is going to be a part of our team going forward. He hasn't been awesome thus far, but has been good and is still trying to gel with his new team mates. He should be getting games ahead of Bruce if one has to go for structure or matchups.

I think we are being a bit harsh on our defenders. They were up against it last week. I'll admit there were occasions where they were caught out but our midfield didn't provide much resistence. Geelong got the inside 50 flat and quick too often, making it hard for any defender.

It was a concern when Rivers was easily fended off by Pods but I don't think it's panic stations for our young backline.

In: Scully, Trengove, Bate
Out: Macdonald, Rivers, Miller

I'm a firm believer that Bate and Miller can't play in the same team and I'd take Bate every day of the week.

In principle I agree Dez, the forward line is a little too cumbersome with Watts Miller and Bate in the one side and for mine is to far away from the mobile forward line that was successful earlier in the year. However given Carlton will play 2 ruckman I think we'll have to retain Miller as a backup or look at Martin or PJ to come in if we move Miller out.

why do people hate joek macdonald, i thought he has performed well this year, bar the 30 possession/ horrible disposal efficiency game

How can you say that Miller and Bate can't play in the same forward line?

The ball has never been delivered well since the two have been playing together. The delivery into the forward line last week was perfect for the Geelong defenders. If anything it should be easier for Miller and Bate if they work together.

Much like Geelong did to us, where whoever Warnock was on was the lead up target, we can do the same to the most cumbersome Blues defender. We need to rotate the option so it isn't predictable. Throw Watts into that equation and the Blues could very well be left wondering who is supposed to be playing on who, which is perfect for Forwards. Give them a few games together now that the ball is being delivered with some purpose, and let them work together.

Our backline should be ok against the Blues. Bartram, Frawley, and Joel Mac can all play on smalls. Warnock to Waite if he plays. I would be tempted to put Sylvia to Gibbs and let them duel it out. Sylv can match him for speed and endurance, and also in the air. If he can get a few touches early it will make Carlton re-think their options down back. Bennell needs to be let run free, where he can swoop on the ball, much like in Darwin. Aussie stays in the team for mine. He is getting to right places, he just hasn't quite got his touch, but if he has a few early touches his confidence will be sky high, and could be really damaging.

Scully and Trenners in. Rivers and someone else out, just not sure who. I guess its a choice between Jetta and Aussie. Could go either way, but like I said, I would prefer Aussie in the team, he is a potential match winner up forward, whereas Jetta is playing through the middle, where we have too many options at the moment.

Cannot, should not and will not drop Clint Bartram, he's been very good this season and is undroppable for this game especially when you take into consideration Carlton's midget brigade.
Turns the ball over too much. He may be hard at it, disposals are poor, doubt he'd make any otherside except Richmond.

Clint Bartrams disposal efficiency is 82.7%.

Aaron Davey who is considered one of the best ball users is at 70%.

Perhaps after years of bagging him on this website, some people just assume he turns it over, and look for the mistakes.

I dont really think the stats do it justice though, you've got to take into account that those are just raw numbers, rather than a breakdown of how and where those disposals are being made. I'd hazard a guess that nearly everyone of Clints disposals are short to open players whilst Aaron Davey as a more creative player is kicking longer and taking more 'dangerous' options. Clint had a habit of getting caught with the ball in dangerous positions or turning the ball over via disposal in dangerous positions.

No doubt he's definitely improved his decision making and there's no way I'd consider dropping him but there was a time when nearly every time he'd get the ball he'd be run down because he was dithering.

some people give helicopter handpasses, efficiency is losing wait. they should do handballs recieves that then leads to a same team disposal... or something lol

Defs a tough week at the selection table

FB: Bartram - Warnock - Bennell
HB: Grimes - Frawley - Bruce
C: Morton - Trengove - Gysberts
HF: Davey - Miller - Watts
FF: Sylvia - Bate - Green
FOL: Jamar - Scully - McDonald
INT(from): Jones - Moloney - Jetta - Wona? - MacDonald?

IN: Scully, Trengove, Bate
OUT: Garland/McDonald (depending on Garlands fitness), Rivers, one of the last 2 on the bench.

I think Jetta stays due to his performance against port, he wasnt terrible against Geelong either and would rather he was in than Wona tbh... in a couple of weeks with wona with a bit mor fitness might be the other way round but Jetta atm is infront.

Backline - Warnock (Setanta)
- Frawley (Waite or Henderson)
- Bennell (Yarren)
- Grimes (Betts)
- Bartram (Garlett)
Would like Macdonald to play (If garland doesnt) just due to the fact that Kruezer will get put down their at some point.

The reason why Davey is at 70% and bartram is at 82% is becuase naturally if you get more of the ball your going to turn it over more.

Davey's total stats this year - 211
Bartram's total stats this year - 116

You could argue when you get less of the ball it is more important to make sure they count. Bartram's decision making and disposal has improved this year, instead of relying on stats just watch the game instead and you will see a) using the ball well and b) what a great job he does on his direct opponent and shutting them out of the game.

The AFL thinks we will get Bruce back this week after being sidelined for the past couple of weeks apparently. Sumed up his game last week and probably his last 5 years perfectly, they didn't even know that he played against Geelong.

Oh for God's sake, just go play in traffic.

It's fair enough to dislike a player but you take it to a whole new level with your blind hatred.

I love the way you except mediocrity. We have already won the 4 games, we don't need these tanking weapons anymore.

Cameron the Bruce has been a servant of the MFC for over the last 5 years. Stop hating on the players who helped us get to where we are.

Anyway, I can't wait to watch the midfield battle it out this weekend. Going to be crazy!

Where am I accepting mediocrity? Bruce along with Green and Junior Mac has been an excellent contributor and still has some left to offer but you seem to just want to write off every player you don't like.

First it was Rivers, now Bruce, who's next on your hit list? Davey? Sylvia?

He should be better than a servant. Hate is a strong word, do I think his form justifies getting a game week in week out? barely. Where did Bruce help us get to?
