Sandilands is an anomaly. He's 33 now, yet when fully fit, he's easily in the top 5 ruckman still. He's still pretty mobile for a guy his size and age too. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be the Dustin Fletcher of ruckman. Just continuing on each year until he's 40.

I doubt he will, of course, but I would be totally fine if he did.

Just need to keep that bloody WC ruckman away from him in the future!!!!

Our best bet is to get Apeness to focus on training as a ruckman fulltime. Tell him to watch Mumford and how he goes about it.

Apeness has the agility and endurance. He's tall and he wants to hurt people.

I'm pretty sure I read that he was Vic Metro's main ruckman and was pretty decent.

I'm certain this was happening before he did his knee and also in his training once his knee was better. He played exclusively in the ruck in his comeback game and then 50/50 in his other WAFL games.

From the day he was drafted he was viewed as a ruck option. I agree that it's gone from forward/ruck to now being more ruck/forward though.

Sandilands won't necessarily retire end of next season. He'll continue to earn the big bucks and if he wasn't playing afl, he'd be mowing lawns. I doubt he'll have a media career. Not sure he's the coaching type. With a young family, I'd imagine he'll play as long as he's offered a contract.

That's true, however if we're still relying on Sandi to lead our ruck in 2018 or even be a part of our team we're in trouble. He's been very mobile for a 7 footer but I can see him getting totally exposed by the more mobile younger opponents going forward. Especially the way the game is progressing and the fact that he doesn't kick or take enough marks up forward.

He was a part time ruck for Vic Metro at U18 level but he also played a lot as the second forward; many said he wouldn't be a ruck at AFL level but a forward. To me he has played his best games in the WAFL as a permanent full forward and I thought that is where it would be with him at the AFL level - strikes me he can even contests at WAFL level, which makes me worry whether he can be a reasonable chop out as a backup ruck. He has the strength of being a ferocious tacker which is a bonus with talls, especially in the forward line. He also has a good leap which along with the height give him a marking advantage that hides the fact he isn't massively fast. It is hard to make a call on the game-day endurance as he hasn't played many matches recently.

Zac Clarke to be taken out in the paddock and whacked on the head with a sledgehammer, don't waste the price of a bullet. Geez, Zac Dawson is better in the ruck !!!!!.

Hannath, no thanks.

Griff back in with Langdon.
Give Dawson a role and he ll do it, albeit in his usual 1%er, cringeworthy way. At least with him you know he ll push around the taller bloke and not give an inch. I'd would rather him against Grundy given how crap Clarke was anyway.

Not like, we actually have a team to choose from anymore - but if we do:

In: Langdon, Ibbotson, Griffin (if fit)
Out: Clarke, Hannath, Sutcliffe
Nice changes, about right. Sutcliffe has been meh this season, putting players under pressure with his disposal. Move Tucker into his role, and develop him from there. Now Crozier has his role as the rebound defender would like to see Sheridan play exclusively on the wing. Has the pace and kicks a goal or two.

Taberner's chance to get his usual bag whilst playing as the key forward. Seems to do well away without Pav for whatever reason
Pav will go for the mark, from behind Tabs, spoiling both.

The forward line coordination is all about Pav when he is there and best available when he isn't.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Pav needs to decoy lead for Taberner a bit or be at the feet of Tabs for the spillage and mix it up a bit. Challenge his tall defender to play small.

I'll have what he is having.

I don't want to see Jack Hannath on a Freo jumper again, same as Clarke. Sutcliffe just isn't getting better, he is the same player he was in 2013, an ok back flanker but he is not going to help us move forward.

Sutty handball to collins really turn me off . If that person is tucker i am ok with it.

Agreed.

Dawson is a role player, every team has them.

Clinton Wulfe (sp) had more presence than Clarke !!!!!.

While I agree Sandilands will never be the head coach there is every chance of him doing what Cox is doing at Egirls. He is a part time ruck coach at the mighty Sharks already.
