In every sense of the word. You can't teach endeavour, hardness and effort. You either have it or you don't. He's played enough games now to have at least showed some skerrick of intent.
You really believe CS would play a player that often if he lacked all these attributes?
Just try being patient, tolerant, less critical, less judgemental.
He has played vey well in patches. Sure he goes missing, but many young "small" type forwards do. How many times was I defending Varcoe on this board? Your idea of lack of intent is as negatively biased as mine is positive regarding my approval of him.
CS is the final arbiter.

Yes, because I don't rate Scott as a coach.

How is he talented? Not once have i ever seen him break a line. He has the footwork skills of my grandma. He offers nothing in the air and he freezes under pressure cos he has no composure. He aint slow and has a big kick. That is all he has going for him.
After his knock on Hodge, he has pulled his head in a bit- getting suspended after game 2, for several weeks, after featuring as a good player that day, has affected him, but gutless he is not. At ER, his big tick was his class and decision making, and his disposal. The ? was consistency. The latter will come with game time and confidence. At VFL level, he is a clear standout, and does it easily.

he cant rove packs, he doesnt get the hard ball, he cant shimmy past opponents, he offers nothing as a marking player, he has slow reaction speed and basically no football brain. He doesnt offer anything at AFL level.

His hit on hodge was over a year ago. If he is still imapctd by that then he doesnt have the mental capacity either.

I love him, we could not have a better coach imho. Maybe his twin..
We need someone who is ruthless and doesn't tolerate undiscipline and laziness. I tell my missus continually when we're watching at home to have a look at the number of players jogging up and down on the spot as their opponents do as they please.

It's frustrating. Effort costs nothing. Players like Parsons and Guthrie don't bring that desire because they know their spot is safe. Until we move Scott on it'll continue to be a problem. He's a really good coach in other areas but when it comes to pressure, desire and system it's where he fails, and it's why we keep getting blown off the park in big finals.

He has something and doesn’t lack footy nouse, but I agree that his effort can be questionable.
Still too early for the ‘Murdoch Gregson’ club but a place is on reserve.

At least one is an upgrade on the other.

Straight out for menzel next week? Or a late change for menz tomorrow?

Would love to see a late change of Menzel in tonight

Parsons has been very badly treated on this forum.
So far this season, at some stage, 44 different players have been nominated as an in "next week" for Parsons.
It's time to give the kid a break, and treat him equally with the other 44 players on our list.
Next week, I reckon we should bring Parsons in for Parsons.

Fogarty, serious? You are lowering your footy IQ at a rapid rate with comments like them.

9 possessions at 44.4% against the tigers

4 goals from 10 games

he doesn't do much besides tackling, his kicking is atrocious

I'd prefer having Buzza/Abbott over those 3.

Do you watch any of it or just get the Sun out on a Monday morning and read the stats? Kid's a jet. Sit back and enjoy.

On Parsons.
We are judging him while he is played out of position.

He is not a goal kicker/goal sneak/ clean out the back type.

When he was dropped I saw a 30+ disposal game and he should have had 3 goals he missed two easy ones - set and snap. I'll say it again - he is not a goal kicker / good snap / out your bum type. What he does do is make great position / read the game very well / deliver well by hand and foot.

He is a Wing/HB/mid (he played midfield when he was dropped). He is played at half forward in the AFL for his ability to cover ground and apply pressure and get to good spots. He has fumbled balls below his knees when close to goal too often and this (for me any way ) points to him not have played as as a small forward before and not being comfortable close to goal.

So why does he keep getting games? 6 of 7 players on our injured list are forwards. Gregson & McCarthy have disappointed again. Miers is not ready. Scooter is just getting right (and has as much experience up forward as Parsons).

I will be pleased when he is forced out of the side by a more effective small forward (across all tasks ).

I also think he needs to dominate across the middle at half back in the twos for a fair while or he will lose confidence.

He can play.

great start Narks.
Can't wait until Nakia joins him and they can be Nakers and Narks
Seems the order of the day again is free kicks to the opposition in front of goal
Gonna have to earn this win post bye

That's reasonable VD, but the thing he is being giving continued chances at senior level without really justifying them.
And he gets dropped as often as anyone in our team. As he should. Parsons is why we lost ?

I know I'm getting of track here but does anyone out there know the rules concerning how many players can be on the mark when a bloke is taking a shot at goal?

An unbiased and excellent post.

I never said that VD. He was a factor as he was a big weakness, not no, definitely not the sole reason.

My point though is he isn’t doing anywhere near enough to stay in the team right now and should be in the VFL until he shows form.
This circular argument just keeps presenting.
He gets dropped, he will be dropped, he is not a small forward, but all our proper small forwards are out injured or coming back.
Parsons ultimately will be a wing/hbf player.
Right now he is unsuccessfully filling in.
