In: Kynan Brown
Out: Charlie Spargo.

No Lever for the rest of the season to me. Ever since his dumb front on contact free against North I simply can't handle him anymore. I'm done.
Huh? I thought Lever was amongst our best against GWS. I didn't really watch the Norf game but Lever is an auto inclusion. Probably a dozen blokes ahead of him we should be questioning selection.

Not saying melk will do anything but I reckon people write him off every season because he takes time to get into it and then after a few rounds he ends up being useful
Agree, injury interrupted preseason but was still one of our only players who was able to hit someone up on a lead in F50.

Lord Nev posted some good vision in the Goodwin thread that showed how badly the Sparrow tagging move actually hurt us.

Yes, he did an OK job (though Holmes still had 17 disposals to Sparrow's 5), but it let Geelong do whatever they wanted in their back half because we didn't send someone back there to fill the gap he left.

If we're playing a tagger, that tagger needs to be in the middle most of the game. If Sparrow spends most of the game in the middle alongside Oliver and Viney, we might as well pack it in now, because we're cooked.
Good point. Drop Viney and bring sparrow in to the midfield to tag Merrett. He is a gun, kills us everytime and ess go shit when he does.

Surely it is time to bring Fullerton in for a few weeks. Be nice to have an actual tall - tall forward - rather than undersized guys like JVR & Turner matched with Fritsch/Melk combo who also try to play taller...

He seems to cover the ground pretty good, gets on the lead, takes marks at full stretch instead of bouncing them off his chest, decent kick... I can see why Goody doesn't like him!

you're right, he will be an auto inclusion but wouldn't be for me. I'm just tired of his brain fades deep in defence. At the very least out of the leadership group for me. His best is really good, his bad is really bad.

Not the person that you want in a 1 on 1, your 1 point up and there is 1 minute to go.
You can bet on him doing something stupid.

I'm thinking it's all because the crowd noise in close games means he can't hear instructions from May.

It's up to Goodwin and Bassett to find a way to get Lever playing 3rd man up like he did in his AA year. Cats allow Stewart to play that role, so why can't we? But again, if thought he played well 1st game. If Sparrow, Salem and Petty are best 22, Lever is an auto inclusion.

Cat's have the advantage that almost everyone in team is strong overhead. (The almost is for Miers)
This means they can move their best into the 3rd man up role.

Melbourne on the other hand has too many who cannot take a contested mark or simply cannot catch overhead. It's a skill thing. Check our player list.

This is so true. We have a very poor one on one marking team across the board. Almost all of Geelongs players are really strong overheard. Swans have a bit of that about them as well

I feel like the only time you see us kick to a 1-on-1 contest it's Spargo or Bowey against some 2 metre giant.

And the Giants

We doan do 1 on 1

Our forwards only get 1 against 2 (or 3). Many times I have seen JVR and Disco beaten against 2 opponents.

Q 1.
Why kick to someone who is outnumbered?

It's incredible isn't it, outnumbered in every contest but there's never a spare man in sight.

What does everyone think our excuse will be this week?
We had so much love that it overflowed into the Bombers and manifested into a selfless desire to reward them a #1 draft pick.

So we've built a team based on contest, just not in the air. #demonspirit
