Breaking news before it breaks: Clinton Young will not be dropped for Launceston.

He was one of our better players last night and as I wrote in another thread, My Man was one of few Hawks who appeared to come out to play against the Crows in Adelaide only 16 days ago.

Agreed. What's the go with attacking Young all of a sudden? He was one of the few guys prepared to actually run through the middle and take the game on. For most of the night we resorted to that slow, sideways crap coming out of the backline that we have been used to in the past.

Not to mention one superb act of courage diving across a Saints leg for a smother (Harvs I think) as he was about to pump the ball to the top of their goal square.

He wasn't great but was closer to our best than our worst. Definitely wasn't soft either.

doesnt matter what the jump to conclusion idiots here say:
-young will not get dropped seeing he was in our best players,
-ellis wont get dropped unless he's injured

those are fact and AC and the selectors are not stupid .. we have come as far as we have for this reason.

In: Thorp, Muston

Out: Little, Ellis

AC loves to bring in tassie boys at Launny. Muston or Tuck to debut. And for what its worth, commentators mentioned numerous times that Young's attack on the ball and man was dubious at best. I'm sure AC will point those occasions out and he'll be better for it.

Everyone on here is wanting Little out and Thorp in. If you look at there 2 debuts in isolation there wasn't a lot between the 2 of them. If Little had have sloted that goal they would have been very similar and yet everyone wants to out Little and get Thorp back in the team.

There is a perceived notion that Thorp has more potential (which is right) but I think you have to award games on merrit. Nobody wanted to see Thorp dropped after his debut and I think Little should be given the same chance. I am a Matt Little fan and I am happy to admit that, for those of you who have played footy you will know that there are some players who are natural goal kickers and those who aren't. Little is a natural goal kicker and they are very hard to find, there value to a team is immense because they hurt opposition with a handful of touches.

Roughy, Boyle and Thorp aren't natural goal kickers, they have to work hard for there goals and scoring doesn't just happen for them. Williams, Franklin and Little are all natural goal scorers, they can have a very ordinary day and still finish with 3-4 goals. They are valuable players.

Few points...I think Thorp potentially got "rested" so that he'd be fresh to come back in at his home state, so I imagine he'll come back in. He was fairly ferocious in his leads and attempts against the tigers, so i'd happily see him come back in. Secondly, playing him means that the Roos must sacrifice a tall to cover him, and even if he's ineffectual, the rebound of a tall for the Roos isn't as damaging as a smaller player who might cover a Little.
Young has the perfect opportunity to atone for his "soft" efforts as some of you have mentioned. Keep him in definately. If you recall the previous game in Tassie (or maybe against the Cats), we were struggling to make the distance up the non scoring end...then Young bombed one from outside 50 straight through the big sticks. Clinton is not in our team to dive under packs and casually spoiling one of the most inform talls in the competition (Kosi), but i take your points that his efforts seemed lacking a couple of times. But no one expects you to dive on a footy to spoil, so lets not string him up just yet. He provides run, and lofts the ball a long way. Give him a chance....in my book he stays in.
I'd like to see a Vandenberg or Osborne back in the side...they provide hunger for a contest (as the season is wearing on), mature heads, and aggression. Ossie has shown he is potentially the spark in the forwardline at times this season, and in Tassie, there's a very strong possibility that the ball will go to ground alot due to the blustery wind. Bring him in if fit.
Jacobs could be an in, depending on matchups.
Perhaps with so many ins, take the opportunity to rest some players that the coaching panel feel may benefit from a rest (perhaps Ellis if sore).
My thoughts are mixed on Little. He needs a chance to prove himself, but its a dangerous time of the year for experiments to potentially not work. Whilst i don't agree that every match is a "crunch" game, this weeks result could give our season some direction.

Jacobs has to come back, we are a much better team with DJ. Uses the ball well and doesn't panic as much as others.

Ellis probably needs a rest, if he is sore no point risking the kid.

Dixon wasn't the worst on Saturday night, kicked two goals, we only had two multiple goalkickers.

I'd bring back Thorp, strange to drop him so late the other night, probably for Little.

Bateman and Crawford were pathetic and Lewis was poor on Saturday night. Can't afford these guys all being down on one night.

So definitely time to bring back Jacobs and Thorp has to play - he is ready for AFL.

It will be good when we get back Boyle, Vandenberg and Osborne.

Sorry.....but i think Clinton Young could do with a couple of games out, starting too look tired.Plus there is plenty of talent in the box hill team.
So my changes this week.
OUT:Ellis(Saints best game so far),Young,Dixon(If he is injurd),Little.
IN:Vanda,Tuck,DJ,Thorp/Muston

As long as we have :

IN: Intensity
OUT: Clangers

I'll be happy.

Don't think we need to panic and make huge changes.

IN: Vanders, Thorp, Jacobs

OUT: Little,Young, Ellis (inj - at least that is what everyone is saying, if not dropped)

If Vanders doesn't get picked Young will stay in the team for this week.

3 good ins those would be. Then next week Boyle will come in for Thorp (unless the kid has a blinder and kicks a bag full, then tricky)

Just a thought if Boyle doesnt play, he's going to get 34 days rest, much more than the 21...

I really want Thorp to play, because he may get squeezed out later on if Williams/Boyle return.

Vandenberg is still at least another VFL match away, ive read Osborne is a month away still, Williams/Clarke 5 or so. Boyler one more.

should we give dowler another game soon so its not too long between drinks if he does not play until next year?

Just watched a full replay of the game, but is it just me or was Little good in everything he did. Granted he only got the ball 6 times, but he marked when needed to, gathered several on ground level. Did much more than Roughead.

I think with better delivery we could have Little play the Dixon/Wiliams role. Probably will get squeezed but i thought the 6-8 times he got touches he was clean. Kicking/decision making wasnt flash but neither was the teams.

Probably:

OUT - Little, Ellis
IN - Thorp, Jacobs

But i think if Dixon was rested/injured it wouldnt be a big loss and Little could have another opportunity. Maybe Ellis out and just Thorp in...
