I can see him refusing any offer like that and basically go into the wilderness when it comes to football. Doubt he'll ever walk into the club again.

Episode 2 Whatever GIF

The way Hinkley has pushed a clearly cooked Dixon out over the last 2 seasons is just more of the same with his treatment.

"Hey Charlie, come to Port so I can park you under hospital balls 20 times a game for 9 years and when that gameplan has destroyed your body, we'll force you back out onto the park so that not only will we finish off your body, we'll also destroy your reputation."

Dixon is a dumb campaigner for having a crack at the fans and probably a dumb campaigner generally, but he was a warrior for us and the role he was asked to play for 9 seasons was some absolute bullshit. If he'd stayed at Gold Coast or gone to another club, he's probably be sitting pretty with about 200 extra career goals, a fanbase who absolutely love him as a cult hero, and he probably doesn't wince when he gets up off the couch.
Charlie is Boxer from Animal Farm confirmed

The birthday post on the clubs Facebook is like 99% women being complimentary in the comments.

I don't mean to cast aspersions about particular demographics, but...

Definitely time. He is cooked. Cooked from a shitty game plan that has asked so much from him physically and his body broke down but i still think he fought hard to the end. The cupboard was bare with Marshall concussed, Finlayson ruled out for the year and Lord having a stinker of a year, so Dixon was asked to battle on even though he and nearly everyone else knew he was done.

Unfairly singled out, particularly this finals series for what has been a disgraceful/shameful finals series from the majority of the playing group and even more so the coach and his shit game plan.

I know he's not flavour of the month around here, but I agree with you. What I will say about Charlie is that whatever we get from him, you know it's the best he's capable of. If he plays badly as in the Geelong game, it's because he is physically incapable of anything more. If every one of our players played that way, Butters is another one who does, we may not have beaten Sydney, but we would have given them a hell of a better contest.

If Dixon wanted to play on I'd be curious to see what he could do at another club with better coaching and managed game time. Also not busting arse at training. A lot of key forwards get reduced training loads as they age but you know the big brains at Port expect the same from him as they do prime Kane Cornes.

Some of the takes are really weird on here

Yeah he tried to back up his coach and had a bit of a dig at supporters. Yeah it looks like his career has come to an end.

But **** me. For years before that he was one player that genuinely cared, had a crack, put his body on the line time and time again.

Deserves far more respect from us. It's not his fault he's played with a shit game plan and asked to perform miracles.

If he does retire, he'll have my thanks and gratitude

He will get the opportunity to retire, otherwise he will be unceremoniously delisted.

Won't be at Port next year
To be honest, this is totally obvious to everyone in the footy world. There was zero chance he was remaining.

What I don't understand is why this hasn't already happened. Can only assume he wants to slide away quietly?

The lower leg injury he suffered in 2018 was horrific from all reports, so to come back from that to be All-Australian CHF in 2020 (yes I know, in a COVID year) was an enormous effort and took a bit of guts.

On his day, his best footy was exceptional and there was a 4-6 week stretch of hub footy in 2020 where he honestly channelled prime Wayne Carey for a brief period. And he was damn good in 2021 as well.

It's unfortunate our memories of him have been somewhat tarnished by being wheeled out as a cripple from 2022 onwards, and some ill-advised comments towards the supporters.

Can't really blame supporters who spend a lot of money following the club, only to be told their opinions are worth two cents, for wanting to drive the final nail into the bloke's coffin and have the final say I guess.
