Time to piss him off and focus on the next gen. He is a liability as our structure sucks arse when he plays. Bomb it to Charlie!
I rate him as a ruck man but his body can't handle that.
Money down the drain.
I'm not a Dixon fan, but if he doesn't play finals our chances drop from 60% to 30%.

Our forward structure sucks arse in general.

He'd be a very good ruck/fwd option if we could replace him as fwd.

He's got a couple more years in him yet but he's at the age for a rolling 1 year deal which gives both sides flexibility moving forward. He's had to do more ruck than you'd like this year and if we can get one of the other guys or another ruckman in, his life becomes much easier in a f50 only role where he can roam and use his size.

Our club does seem to block any outside coaching help, we know Schulz offered to work with Butcher and was knocked back, and he may have even been a player at the time.

'Hey I was thinking I would like to work with John on his kicking outside of training?'
'* off Jared'
'It's Jay'
'Yeah well whatever just incase there's ever a Jared around he can * off too'

I think you're getting your wires crossed.

There was nothing stopping Schulz and Butcher from practising kicking one-on-one if Schulz was still on the playing list at the time. Do you really think they're going to pay a player to teach another player how to kick though?

What you're misremembering is when WGT is offered to help Butcher but it didn't go anywhere. Warren trained Ted one-on-one but that's only because Ted asked for help, not because the Crows sought it out. When they asked WGT on the radio why he was helping Ted, he said "because he asked me."

Yes, Jay Schulz has offered his services in recent times with this playing squad.

Thing is, we don't know what their issues actually are. When it comes to the mental yips, it could be a gameday issue. These guys might be nailing shots at training every single time. A goal kicking coach that teaches technique isn't going to help them not be nervous when all of a sudden they're faced with having to take a shot in front of a big crowd.

There's technique issues and there's mental issues. Butcher has both. A guy like Geordiades knows how to kick, but has the mental yips. Dixon is the same.

I am pretty sure Schulz said something like he wanted to work with Butcher when he was at Port already but told no. These guys have their training very regimented and the club would know if two players were off doing their own thing even if in own time. For whatever reason, the coaching and development believed they knew better than anyone else.

Don't get me wrong, Cornes was a brilliant player, in defence then as midfield/utility, but he was an average KPF. I'm not sure what wisdom he has to impart about the role.

Serious Brah?

Pretty sure huh?

Dixon has a technical issue. When he's missing he's slicing his kicks leaning back too much.

He might not have that issue at training though, is what I'm saying.
Georgiades probably doesn't stab at the ball and hook it left at training either.

Players revert to bad habits when the pressure is on in big games.

Very sensible. There is nothing stopping Dixon from getting another 1 year extension in 12 months if he is still up to it.
I'm pretty sure the great Warren Tredrea's last couple seasons were 1 year deals, and he is probably our best player of the AFL era.

When you are dealing with an older player with mounting injury concerns, taking it 1 year at a time just makes sense.
