A fine only is a waste of time.
Imagine the scenario - Prelim Final, Collingwood ahead by plenty, Daicos or another key player cops a head knock in the last few mins.
Would Collingwood be concerned with a fine?

Hot take from the Port Power board............

Apparently the Crows camp was far more detrimental to the health and safety of the players than deliberately ignoring concussion protocols.

That's one of the most stupid takes I have ever heard.

Everyone agrees that the camp was a really poor decision, however the club had no idea what the fall out was going to be and if they had of known I imagine that they would not have gone ahead with it.

Yet Port are fully aware of the dangers of concussions and yet they have repeatedly ignored protocols by sending players back on the field without testing in order to win games.

So which club is more negligent in terms of health and safety? The one who held a camp that wasn't aware there would be any psychological impact on the players or the club that advocates for concussed players to be sent back on the field without any due take being taken.

I don't you have to be Rhodes Scholar to know which club is more negligent.
They always love to deflect!

They always think they are never in the wrong

We dont expect anything less

They living in the 80s still

They will never take any accountability EVER

I dont agree with Kingy often but he’s a 100% correct here..

A fine will be happily paid by port with a sly grin on their faces as they hand it over.. salary restrictions from the soft cap?.. pfft, they’ll see that as a slap on the wrist.

This needs to be premiership points removed and every club needs to be sent a message, not just Port, every club.. this will not be accepted.

Any soft slaps on the wrist will simply have other clubs, especially the richer one’s, ask themselves “do we weaken the 22 and potentially lose the game.. or do we send him out and just pay the fine like Port did”..

The AFL needs to remove that potential option..

The next thing they do is introduce independent docs at games..

probably wont happen this year.. implement it from R1 2024.

Its now on the AFL. The AFL need to demonstrate how serious a breach of concussion protocols and bringing the game into disrepute are... and need to punish accordingly

Independent Drs at matches seems like a smart decision (solely for assessment of head injuries)...

I cannot understand how a medical professional is willing to risk their career over this, can he not be sanctioned or have his license to practice revoked? How does a Dr think its ok to skip a HIA assessment...If they had done the assessment and then said he passed you could use that as an excuse, but to not even consider one? In what world would you see that footage, (where it is clear as mud that Alir was knocked our cold before he hit the ground), and think, "nah, no chance of concussion, wouldn't even bother with a test".

There is enough history here that the AFL probably should do a proper investigation, look for a paper trail, access emails etc. Make sure they told the truth in the Jonas/Butters incident last year.

If the fine is from the footy department budget, that's ok but I'd like them to make sure they are spending enough on their medical department (is that seperate?) or at least not cutting costs there.

After an incident like this they need to make sure Port have enough of the right people with the right qualifications. Force them to hire someone who specialises in head injuries.

Even if the AFL don't bring in independent doctors right away, Port should be forced to pay for one assigned by the AFL to keep an eye on things for the rest of the year and some period of time beyond. As well as a review of past events, records, notes etc., reporting directly to the AFL.
AFL and proper investigation in the same sentence is just too funny.

TBH I really don't think any other club would be so stupid and desperate to do something so obviously bad in the first place.

The HIA on Alir wasn’t skipped, it was the SCAT5 test that was skipped.
Happy to be corrected but that is my understanding from this mess of Port’s creation

The problem is that Port's story has changed about 3 times so it's hard to know what's true and what's not.

The initial story from Port on Saturday night was that the doctor looked at the incident and determined there was no need for any testing, Jones was then later subbed off with a migraine. Now suddenly they claim they were tested, but Aliir wasn't given the SCAT5 test.

My gut feel is that Port were hoping their initial stance would have just gone through to the keeper and both players would then been able to play against Geelong this week.

The Dr decided from seeing the vision that he did not need the SCAT5 test. This was despite the fact that Aliir was clearly unconscious from the moment of the collision (and his uncontrolled crumpling to the ground) until he hit the ground. It was clear to EVERYONE else that a further assessment would need to be done... but not for the DR. It just beggars belief.

What was Tex saying to Thilthorpe here? Looks like he says walk away?? Why was he so angry?

I'm pretty sure it was just Tex saying "they're down at least one big man now, your effin time to shine mate".

I don't think he was angry as much as focused and trying to generate emotion. Don't feel bad for them being injured, take advantage of it, etc.

Ralph running with soft cap penalties next year, possibly $100K.

Helps the AFL too because they will spend less of their handout money.
I'd hope that $100K is coming out of the pay packet of the doctor, Hinkley and Davies, cause it's a massive pile of BS if someone else lost their job because of a soft cap penalty.

That was the immediate take by the commentary team as well. I think it kind of looked like he was a bit shocked at what happend in that clip, floating around towards the players knocked out on the ground.

Snap him out of any it could have been me or it's my fault thoughts, focus on the game, it's your time to step up.

I might also add that it really depends on what an investigation finds.

If it's at best gross negligence one would think a significant soft-cap fine would be appropriate.

If there is a conspiracy that someone has consciously orchestrated for a perceived competitive advantage it should be career ending for those involved and premiership points/draft picks should be stripped.

I suspect that the truth lies somewhere in the middle (there was no deliberate conspiracy, this is more an unspoken wink and nod policy) and all that can be proved is the negligence.

I agree that we should have independent doctors available, but I question what about at training sessions, full match sims, behind closed doors, no cameras, If they are prepared to act the way they have in full view of cameras, what is happening behind the scenes at training.

Port to change their story to Lachy Jones and Aliir werent actually playing on Saturday night... it was two random players pretending to be port players who need to be investigated for impersonating Lachy Jones and Aliir Alirr.

Port Adelaide takes this impersonation very seriously and will investigate who made up their suad of 22 on Saturday night

Edit

The club servant doctor decided he didn't need to do SCAT5 test because our forward line was killing them already but the game was close.

The major risk the club servant doctor was concerned with was losing the four points against us and mitigating the risk of a loss against Geelong next week.

Hence the reason to classify Jones as a migraine, so he could also play next week.
