What really screwed Port over was not so much the head clash, but the vision of both players laying flat on the ground after the incident. The problem is that Port's story has changed about 3 times so it's hard to know what's true and what's not.
The initial story from Port on Saturday night was that the doctor looked at the incident and determined there was no need for any testing, Jones was then later subbed off with a migraine. Now suddenly they claim they were tested, but Aliir wasn't given the SCAT5 test.
My gut feel is that Port were hoping their initial stance would have just gone through to the keeper and both players would then been able to play against Geelong this week.
An "injured player", they both got up and walked off. Could they argue that they weren't injured at this point? How quickly can the doc and medico's look at the replay to determine if any of those things happened? And they had two players to assess. They were certainly reviewing the footage once the guys got to the bench. I'm not arguing that all those points aren't very clear because for the average joe who saw what happened, they are... but are there enough "grey areas" to allow for manipulation (which I believe has happened in this case)? That was in relation to the point being made - asking whether 15 mins was the duration.
There is nothing poorly written in this:

It was obvious to everyone when the AFL said club doctors make the call and not independent doctors, but this is the AFL we're talking about.Tbh I'm surprised this isn't the case already. Club affiliated doctors sounds like a recipe for corruption.
How Aliir going to ground wasn't 'possibly no protective action' is undefendable.
Didnt even have to go that far down the list, he lost consciousness before he hit the ground!!How Aliir going to ground wasn't 'possibly no protective action' is undefendable.
They took IT equipment to forensically examine in the Tippett saga. Maybe take the Doc's computer .AFL and proper investigation in the same sentence is just too funny.
I'd be interested if there was any audio of discussions the doc may have had with other officials or coachesThey took IT equipment to forensically examine in the Tippett saga. Maybe take the Doc's computer .

But Doc may not have observed that for himself in real time. He would need to review the replay to see it. That he STILL couldn't see it in replay is the disturbing part.Didnt even have to go that far down the list, he lost consciousness before he hit the ground!!

And they did. You can see pictures of them watching vision with Aliir sitting on the bench. When the incident happened he was obliged to seek vision of it
This is exactly correct. There are several indicators in the protocol that dictates the scat5 and take no further part in the game. What I don’t understand is the focus on the doctor and his medical judgement
That’s irrelevant. It doesn’t matter what he assessed or thought
A significant part of the protocol is prescriptive and written in layman’s terms - and in this case it falls within the defined prescribed elements
If XYX happens then you MUST do ABC
it’s not a matter of medical expertise or judgement
In these cases XYZ certainly happened, so the protocol is clear
A lot of people aren’t referring to the what the protocol says and demands.
A good number of these people may or may not be on other boards
Cornes stated on SEN that Port made a mistake, this wasnt a mistake. It's been a terrible look for him and in particular Hinkley. What he said after the game was embarrassing.
Everyone makes mistakes but this wasn't a mistake or error of judgement.
The only Club and supporter base attacking them, is from within. They have gone ahead and torn themselves apart again.
Classic Port.

Then they made a judgement rather than tick off the checklist or observable signs that dictate the actions they didn't take. And they did. You can see pictures of them watching vision with Aliir sitting on the bench.
It is honestly unbelievable how they came to the conclusion that Aliir was ok to go back on without a full assessment. If they'd just done that, and then said he'd passed the test, this wouldn't be the issue it has now become. It is incompetence - or worse, trying to negate the protocol - of the highest order. Then they made a judgement rather than tick off the checklist or observable signs that dictate the actions they didn't take.

This was Port making the priority of winning the Showdown at any cost even at the detriment of the players health and safety.
If the AFL dont send a message, it will happen again in the Finals series.
That 15min assessment is the SCAT5.I am actually not aware myself, I have just heard that for the assessment to take place it would require 15mins off the field and he was back on in 8....anywho....risking a severe injury (now or in the future) for the sake of 15mins....after that incident, I just dont understand why the Dr wouldnt cover his butt (if anything else)
Within 5-7 minutes.That 15min assessment is the SCAT5.
The HIA is to initially assess if a SCAT5 may be required. The HIA can be done with the aid of video replay, visually and with interaction with the player. From my understanding the doctor undertook the HIA and deemed Alir ok to return to the field , which he has since said was a mistake.
