A comedian friend of mine by the name of Danny McGinlay is writing the banners at the moment. He has appeared on TV and radio quite regularly and has a show at the Comedy Festival each year. Has always been a huge Doggies fan

Footscray were never known for their witty banners in the past, lets face it some were shockers,but sundays banner makes up for all of that - what a beauty. Well done cheer squad,keep up the good work- more large flags and we will rival Sydney's cheer squad.

Overall I thought it was a major improvement, mainly because of the presence alone. Seeing a full bay of Bulldogs supporters was enjoyable, compared to the last few years. The signage was a good touch as well, with the arrows and such.

Having followed Victory for a while, I think there are a lot of things that work in Soccer that should at least be trialled in the WBCS. Is there a list of things given to the CS that we can't do on game day? (Drums, trumpets, giant flags, confetti?)

I do think there's improvement to be made in the chants, with a wider range to work with during stoppages in play - though I remember one of the heads of the CS said that would take time, so I guess it's already in progress.

I've chucked a few together in this thread before, but it would be great to get people across the stadium chanting them, and the ones that will succeed most in that are ones that are clear, easy to sing, and funny/mildly insulting :D

Likes:
The Banner, particularity the second half of the year when that comedian guy jumped on board.
Having past and present Bulldogs jumping on board and getting involved.
The number of kids getting involved.
"Bonnnn-tiiiiiiii"
candymanwb's banner.

Dislikes:
General lack of football knowledge within the cheersquad.
Booing current players, in particular the ones that are borderline best 22.
The "westies" - I know every club has them but the one I had to sit next to against North was particularity awful.
Getting hit in the head by candymanwb's banner.

Improvements/Suggestions:
A couple more 'chants' - the ones we have are a bit unoriginal and stale.
A bit of a crackdown on the amount of booing that goes on - I think we're starting to get a reputation as feral supporters.

Sorry but that should be grounds for banishment from the squad. I thought the CS makeover would set some high standards of supporting behaviour. They are there to encourage the WHOLE team and if they don't want to do that they should go and join the unwashed who like to sling mud at Higgins, Jones etc.

What are "westies.' ?

Likes:
Banners have been terrific, and the rejected banners have been even better. Love the creativity, not many clubs choose to have some fun with them.
'Everything's coming up Dahlhaus' - brilliant, candymanwb, have seen comments about it on Facebook and Twitter. Well done.

People are generally pretty welcoming, happy to get out of the way when people are leaving and up for a chat with a complete stranger.

Dislikes:
Being hit in the head with flags - yes, I know it's a moronic complaint considering the CS is full of them, but people could be more careful.
The immediate willingness of some of the older people to slag off players after one tiny mistake - be nice to Stewie, guys.
Some of those same older people making bigoted comments and then being rude when called out on it - wasn't impressed on Sunday.

Suggestions:
Even if we have to rip off some EPL clubs, bring in some proper chants. Have a cookie cutter chant to make fun of the opposition full forward (HiReception suggested one for Hawkins, for example) and then get everyone into some player-based ones - 'All you need is Rough, da da da da da', 'Dahlhaus, in the middle of our street', 'Sugar, aw Honey Honey' and so forth.

Ditch the countdown one. The 'Gimme a B' and so forth one, that's great - particularly with the cardboard letters.

'Dahlhaus, in the middle of our street',

I was at a pub watching the Bulldogs v Hawks game earlier this year and I had a mate start singing that every time he got the footy. Was brilliant and we need more of it. Instead of that insipid 10, 9, 8... chant we should be using player specific chants.

I'd love to scream out "that's nasstyyy" every time Honey lays a big hit too but I'm too afraid noone would get it.

What are "westies'?

Basically the scum of any particular local area. The ones with a lower socio-economic background who have chosen not to better themselves.

Cannot stand the Doggie Doggie Doggie, Woof, Woof Woof chant, very cringeworthy, and to be almost obligated to join in with it when you sit down there is terrible.
Have no issue with the chanting, just not that one.
Other than that great job and much more vocal, (read loud) than in previous years.
And the Banners, fantastic.

Also love the lack of "Brendan McCartney - Our Taskmaster". That shits just embarrassing.

Like every rebuild you replace old with the new and that's what we should do in the cheer squad, bring in more younger people that will chant sing clap etc/
Since we bring in primary school etc place them in the cheer squad.
Allows the kids to catch the footys, hold signs etc and stops the adults from swearing.

Also, change up the front row of people each week, the most fun i had in the cheer squad was lifting the bom bons when kicking for goals, this should be allowed for everyone.
No waving money at Buddy franklink or any sort of that stuff, makes us look like a joke club.

Would be hard to do since some clubs have done this and it creates a awkward chant.
Hold up signs with 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 on them.... easy to co ordinate :p
 
They should each have a big MISS sign which they all hold up, wave, lift up and down, as distractingly as possible when an oppo player is lining up for goal. Someone sitting right between the goalposts should have a sign saying KICK IT TO ME when one of our boys is lining up.

I have to agree with the lack of footy knowledge of some within the Cheersquad. There are a few within the group which love to whinge and moan about those fringe players who yo-yo in and out of our 22.

And I'm sorry about hitting you on the head...It was fairly decent whack! Whenever Dahl kicks a goal I get that little bit more excited ;)

Of course, being the camera whore I am, I have seen myself on tv and on the big screen at the ground regularly! Haha

Also lastly, what's the possibility of purchasing more large flags. Port and Swans style.
A presence needs to be created and we need some larger flags to create that presence behind our goals IMO.
