I had already forgotten he played for Carlton. Now that I do, I remember him as the guy that got Kennedy for West Coast
Just as I will always remember Buddy as the guy who got us the picks to do the trade to draft Billy Hartung and Jonathan Ceglar

Bias, but Judd with the explosive acceleration at the Eagles was near on unstoppable at times

This is my favourite Judd memory. He looked like a spaceman playing an entirely different game back then.

He had the jet boosters of speed and could sprint away from everyone, but could win it at the coalface. He was exceptional.

The West Cost Judd was the better Judd. He was still a damn fine player at Carlton, just different. I tend to remember him at both clubs, so I guess the question is a bit moot to me.

He was a big deal at Carlton, and won a Brownlow there similar as West Coast. Obviously big news in Melbourne, but he was already big when he was at West Coast because everybody wanted to poach him. From a personal perspective he was instrumental in Carlton winning the 2013 EF against the Tigers. Tigers were up by 6 goals at half time. Judd dominated the second half. Had a lot of play that turned the game around. Then got a goal in the last to drive the point home.

I was devastated as a Tiger. I was pretty confident at half time. Lesson learned you could say.

He was a super player!

Lewis Jetta.
Remembered as a Swan or Eagle?

I’m biased so hard to know if my opinion is the norm but he won a flag with us and it was his best season ever so I’d imagine he’s remembered as a Swan.

What do you think?

At the eagles, he won everything you could possibly win by the time he left the club Just after His 24th birthday.

At the Blues. He was very good. Had 6 solid years there from 2008-13. He helped the blues when they made finals from 2009-11 and 2013.

I barely remember his last 2 seasons. 12 games in 2014 and 8 games in 2015.

Remarkable footballer.

Most will say he played his best footy as an Eagle which is fair enough. To completely reinvent himself and then win another at Carlton is just incredible. Don't ever kid yourself into thinking he wasn't brilliant at Carlton.
what do you mean reinvent himself at Carlton?

His peak was 2004-7 at the eagles. 2009-11 Judd was good as he helped get Carlton to finals.

Sadly injuries hurt him at carlton. His last 2 seasons at the blues were stuffed with injuries.

I remember Judd for so many things, but two really stand out. His incredible performances in his early 20s that stamped him as the best young player I had really ever seen, and his massive and extraordinary cheating of the salary cap.

I realise that isn't fair. He led his club to a flag, earned two brownlows and his extraordinary rebuilding of his career as a whole different player when his body decided to stop working like it used to. Those were all incredible achievements. But for me it is those two things, and since one happened at each club he is kinda right in the middle.

He went from Chris Judd the West Coast premiership skipper to Chris Judd - Bec Judds husband at Carlton

Judd at Carlton was a completely different footballer to Judd at West Coast.

Still a gun but his body prevented him from playing the same role. His groins were shot so he didn't have the burst or the outside speed, and adjusted accordingly to more of an inside player.

I disagree That Judd was a completely different footballer when he joined Carlton. Judd at Carlton didnt " re invent" anything

When Judd joined West Coast eagles in 2001, he was only 18 or 19 years old. West Coast had some Senoir Leaders from the 1990s such as Glen Jakovich and Peter Matera in 2002.

That 2005-6 grand final eagles side had many Eagles mids: Judd, Cousins and Kerr were the main 3 mids. Stenglein, Embley, Michael Braun and Drew Banfield were solid workers too. Those mids won premierships, made grand finals and got All Australian honours. Cousins won a Brownlow medal in 2005. Kerr Fell one vote short as well, Ironically in 2005 when his team mate cousins won it.

Meanwhile at the Blues. His midfield team mates were the likes of a Young Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy. No Disrespect to Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs. Neither of those blokes barely won anything. Neither bloke won a premeriship medal or made a grand final or a prelim final. Neither bloke got All Australian honours or Brownlow medals. Both were solid carlton servants though.

Yes Chris Judd was a solid player when fit. Yes he had his fair share of injuries at Carlton. But I didnt see him re invent him self at Carlton. He was a very good inside mid at both West coast and Carlton.

Again... I wont deny Chris Judd fully fit was a good thing to see at the Blues. No Doubt when Chris Judd was fully fit, Carlton improved. Carlton spent 2002-8 not playing finals. Carlton getting Chris Judd helped carlton to finals in 2009-11.

OK, but it's pretty clear cut. He was a completely different type of midfielder at Carlton to that which we saw at West Coast.

Judd at Carlton didnt " re invent" anything

Sure he did - he reinvented himself. His body didn't allow him to play as he did at the Eagles, so he changed his role and his style and was excellent in that new role.

None of this is particularly relevant to the discussion.

Yes Chris Judd was a solid player when fit.
Solid? Are we talking about the same player here?

Chris Judd was better than solid. A lot better.

But I didnt see him re invent him self at Carlton.
Then I can only assume you weren't watching, or you don't remember.

Or you're talking about a different player given just above you said a fit Chris Judd was a solid player.

He was a very good inside mid at both West coast and Carlton.
He was a phenomenal footballer. Most will say his best was as an Eagle and I won't argue that.

Played a lot more inside at Carlton though, and was excellent in that role.

How on earth is this relevant?

Again I wont deny Chris Judd was an excellent footballer at both West coast and Carlton.

But From the eagles board... There were stories about the training and fitness comparisons at both clubs.

When Josh Kennedy went to west coast from Carlton, The eagles medical staff were shocked at how much body fat he had in his body.

When Judd went to Carlton, Training standards increased a fair bit when judd arrived.

The point is The Chris Judd in West coast and Chris Judd in carlton were both totally different situations.

Chris Judd at West coast was an excellent player. He was a consistent performer but he didnt have to single handedly get west coast over the line for the win each week when guys like Cousins and Kerr were working with him.

Chris Judd at Carlton was still an excellent player. But he was an over reliance on him to get carlton to win each week.

My point is Chris Judd was good at west coast because he had co stars like Cousins and Kerr in their primes.

Were Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs in their primes when Chris Judd Joined carlton at the end of 2007?

Glad we cleared that up then. Thanks. :confusedv1:
Look I can understand why you Like Chris Judd.

The chris Judd effect had a positive at Carlton. When Judd joined the Blues, Carlton won 3 wooden spoons in a row from 2005-7.

When Judd Arrived in the end of 2007, Carlton improved. They got 11th spot and 10 wins in 2008. Finals in 2009 and 2010. They finally got that elusive finals win in 2011, the 1st carlton finals win since beating the crows in 2001. When Carlton got Judd.... Carlton didnt just get a player. They got a match winner and a much needed leader where the team barely had any decent experienced leaders.

Point was I could say the same thing About Peter Bell at freo. He only played one game in 1995, was delisted. Plays 5 seasons with North in 1996-2000. Gets premiership medals in 1996 and 1999. He returned to the dockers at the end of 2000. Was one of freos bright spots in that horrid 2001 season. Helped get the dockers finals in 2003 and that elusive finals win in 2006.
