Hogg has pissed me of for so long and I am glad he's gone.

Ok, he's done well in ODI's. But Heal (or maybe Casson) was one of the leading wicket takers in 06/07 i think and then Hogg took his spot and did crap. When the young one came back his form was gone.

And he was crap vs India.

Re: Rogers off to the Vics

Good

w***er of a bloke

I've heard a few people say that now, and he's known as a w***er throughout deomestic cricket as well

Was also revealed that every contract renogotiation he always played hardball and threatened to walk unless he got his way and the money he wanted. The WACA finally called his bluff because they were sick of his attitude and told him to walk.

Notice the WACA didn't make too much of an effort to keep him? The guy's always been a tosser, good riddance to bad rubbish, no matter how talented he is.

Just smashed the quality WA attack all over of the WACA in an unbeaten century (107*, 122 balls, 17x4, 3x6) on what is a bowler friendly wicket with a fair bit of juice in it.

So far this season he's scored 450 runs at an average of 75 with two centuries and two half-centuries.

Given his current rich vein of form, what chance has he got of getting another crack at test cricket when Hayden's time is up?

He has been dismissed, caught behind off the bowling of Magoffin, 115 off 132 balls

Vics are 5-199 off 43 overs, going at 4.62rpo

Is ahead of Marsh in my opinion, but not in the selectors opinion it seems

Apart from being injured, Jaques hasn't really done anything wrong, but Rogers is definitely just behind him. At least we have the opener position covered for the next decade or so with Rogers, Jaques, Marsh and even Hughes.

Not sure if Marsh opens the batting but I slotted him in there anyway.

wow 122 balls, that must be some kind of record for him

Of the top 20 run scorers in the Sheffield Shield this year, Rogers strike rate is the second highest, so it's hard to find fault there.

And fwiw, in this match he faced 100 less balls than Marcus North, yet scored more runs.

i know runs is everything but the way marsh bats is extremely attractive compared to rogers

Marsh definitely looks a promising type, but just for comparisons sake

On the season:

Rogers: 474 runs @ 67, 2 centuries, 2 half-centuries, 57.94 SR
Marsh: 135 runs @ 33.75, 0 centuries, 1 half-century, 38.57 SR

The thing with Marsh is, he was not an opening batsman until Langer retired and Rogers left. He was batting in the middle order. Whether or not his future is as an opening batsman is up for debate, he might prefer to bat in the middle order but is only doing the job for WA because no-one else can?

Should be a great chance. I'd like to think he has gone past Marsh now he has just put up too many more runs this year but Jacques deserves next crack if fit. Then again I think Hayden should go immediately after the NZ series (if he has any brains he will retire) so hopefully Rogers can come in then.

I agree with that.

Jaques has done nothing wrong, but if Rogers keeps on scoring heavily the pressure to give him another go will mount.

Chris Rogers probably deserves a shot in the near future (depending on the form of his opening colleagues), but his technique leaves me a little bit worried. For instance, he tends to move across his stumps, so I don't think he'd play the inswinger all that well.

Phil Jaques deserves first crack when Hayden is out, then Rogers.

.

Fair point, but consider the fact that Katich is currently one of Australia's best batsman and has a similar technique!

Slightly off topic, but could anyone enlighten me as to why Chirs Rogers left WA in the first place?

I ask as it stated that when h brought up his ton not one of the WA players clapped or congratulated him which obviously points to a lot of bad blood for some reason.

Anyone in the know?

The reason he stated was because he didn't get picked in the One Day side for WA.
