I want the coach to try something with Yaz that does not involve the VFL or a green vest.

If he is getting tagged out of the game at half back, and we have plenty of half backs anyway, why not chuck him forward where we have nobody at all crumbing off Levi, let alone someone with his speed and skill, and are struggling to put it through those big white sticks.

Do it Barks.

He was tried as a small forward. He doesn't have the workrate to get into space on his own and shake his opponent or apply pressure. He couldn't even shake Morris - a D-Grade 'defensive fwd'.

Barker is his 3rd AFL coach and he's only 24, and he's still dragging his heels and not having a crack.

I said it earlier; he has been in the system for 7 years, his attitude is still as shit as it was since he was 18. He hasn't gone near his full potential and these days, talent alone doesn't get you by in AFL.

Time to bite the bullet and see him off. His biggest achievement for this year was hooking Paul Chapman.

Still like to see him in the fwd line crumbling packs, pushing to a wing and helping keep the ball in the f50.
We have a huge small forward deficiency and the only reason he was moved back was because he had the skills to do it but Betts and Jeffy couldn't.

We have plenty of hbf options Swing him fwd and release the shackles a bit.
If anything it increases his trade value

Sorry to intrude and feel free to delete if warranted

I posted in the Henderson is not a free agent thread last week about how yarran had played and looked dis interested against the doggies game and was at the game last friday also and there is something just not right with yarran and not sure if its personal or something to do with the club but just looks like he just doesnt want to play as well as looking unfit compared to previous years actually look chubby

Im a fan of chris yarran (based on previous years) and would love him at the tigers for his speed and skill but both these assets seem to have left him this year and his decision making on friday night was no where near elite or afl level

If he gets dropped and/or keeps producing at this level , I think you will find that there wont be many clubs interested to give up more than a 2nd rounder for him - He really needs to produce a real turnaround for the rest of the year otherwise it might be that he is not traded and with another year and FA could be just taken because he wont cost a pick

Good luck anyway guys

His year might be forgiven because of the upheaval around the club but next year there is no excuse. If he continues with the same inconsistency his value will halve. He needs to snap out of it over the last 8 games or else we should sell while the market is still there and his best football is not a couple of years ago.

Probably the most disappointing footballer at Carlton in the last 20 years considering his obvious talent, just does not work hard enough, is soft and looks disinterested. We need to trade him before his attitude affects our younger players.

has been played in the wrong position in his career most of the time, he needs to be played on the wing where he can take full advantage of his speed and kicking skills. I bet if he goes to another club, they will play him there and he will dominate and Carlton will be disappointed that they never played him where he can do his most damage

Unfortunately for carlton that he has very little time to get his sh!t together if he is still at carlton in 2016 the chances are that he will either remain a carlton player

Not Sure about that, HBF is probably the easiest position to play as you tend to see the ball in play longer and chris doesnt really need to defend and plays the houli role and is 'fed' the ball to distribute out. Dont know if the wing will be easier for him as he would usually have a speedy player to be responsible for.

It is unfortunate as he is an extremely skilled player that just looks like he doesnt want to work hard to get to the next level, will be 25 at the end of the year - My god how quickly 7-8 years pass by

He's not fit enough to play on the wing at the moment...

He's 24.

Are our fitness staff totally incompetent? Every year we talk about rotating someone into the midfield and every year we hear about their "fitness been below the required standard".

Reckon Menzel will be 28 and we still be talking about his midfield potential.

Sure, but it appears Yazz has put on weight and lost some pace... could be simply his supposed poor attitude, or maybe he's been carrying an injury... either way, I doubt he could run all day...

This. The number of times Dustin Martin ran from behind Yarran to link up in play, and link again would have been more than the total number of Yarran possessions. Being there and seeing how many times Martin did it, and so many with no reward shows how much the Tiges depend on him and how much he's turned his game around in 18 months. I'd like to think Yarran could follow suit. It would be up to Barker and Co to work out how to tap into this (and fast), and almost certainly would guarantee him the coaching gig.

Probably not the most flattering picture of him but you can see a massive difference, how did our fitness staff allow it to get to this?

He seems like the classic example of a player who needs a new environment to refresh and revive himself and get the hunger and form back. Clearly does not give his all for the Blues but has so much talent he's got plenty of currency in a trade. IMO he is the ideal type of player for you guys to be trading out for early draft picks.

Yeah, he is an elite talent, but needs to be happy in his environment, like he seemed briefly last year. I'm happy for Betts that his move has been positive, and maybe Yaz needs to follow suit.

That would be a terrible trade for us IMO.
Eh? Jetta has been a key player in a top 4 side for years now.

Was a major influence in 2012 when Sydney won the flag too.

Yarrans done jack shit besides a decent 2011. Has a good game once every 6 weeks or so.

I'd take Jetta, he'd be a better player too as he wouldn't be stuck on the congested SCG.

Would prefer Gary Rohan.

Has his injury concerns, but he has really stepped up his game recently. Plays all over the ground, sticky hands, a good kick, and he's quick when he puts the afterburners on.

Clearly Yarran does not want to be at the club. Actions speak larger than words. He has been dropped twice for failing to attend meetings, and last night was the most petulant display I have seen from a player for a while.

He should be dropped and then work out the best possible trade for the club. Replace him with kids who want to play. I am over Yarran and his potential. Imagine the damage he is doing to the kids who watch his behaviour. Let's hope Clem Smith
has other mentors to follow.

Your conclusion that Yarran does not want to be at the club is a reasonable one based on the matters you have referred to, but is it right? Are there other reasons to explain Yarran's on-field/off-field disappointments?

If Yarran does not want to be at the club, why not? It is vital we understand why we are not getting the most out of elite footy talent we have recruited. Answering this question is more important to our long-term success than just dropping Yarran and trading him at the end of the season (which isn't to say those are wrong options either).

I am not doubting his talent nor what he has contributed to Sydney's success over the past few years. I am simply not a fan of overstating one footballer in an attempt to talk another down and portray both as something they are not.

Pointing out his value to a premiership side 4 years ago holds very little weight. Year after year we see average footballers making huge contributions to premiership sides - that doesn't suddenly elevate them to a level individually that they are not a part of.

Next we'll hear that we should trade Henderson for Puopolo because he was a major influence in Hawthorn going back to back.

Some weeks Jetta looks magnificent but he can be completely anonymous at times as well - something so many are quick to point out with Yarran. Jetta strikes me as a classic case of a player who can look very good in a good team, but who might struggle to have a similar impact in a side on the other end of the ladder.

Carlton is now going through a rebuild and the club looks to have finally admitted as much. If the club is true to it's word, I see absolutely no point in trading Yarran for a somewhat similar player who relies more on others to involve them in the game. Surely the better course of action would be to target draft picks or younger players who could potentially play big roles in our next premiership tilt.

Yarran, for me, has been one of the biggest disappointments in recent times. When he first arrived at Carlton, he looked amazing. He was my favourite player. I had his face on my membership card. But in the last few years things have just gone downhill.

It is obvious. He is a laconic player. He doesn't put in as much effort as players such as Kreuzer, Curnow, or even Armfield. The way he twirls the ball in his hand before he does a kick-in...it's just so casual. I don't remember he last time he played a game I would consider "good". He always picks up a few possessions here and there. The last memorable thing he did was kick that running goal a few weeks ago. I don't remember the last time he was in the top 5 players in a game for Carlton. He does not make an impact in games.

It's been said before. But he needs to be chucked into the midfield to learn to win his win own ball and learn to be tough. Because right now his 1 on 1 skills are nothing to be proud of. His lack of effort might be countered if you force him to follow the ball. He has been in the team for years now, surely his stamina has increased to the point where he can run with the mids.

Right now, I can't believe people are asking for a top 10 pick for Yarran. Sadly, he is not worth it.

I honestly wish he would just try harder. He could be so much more.
