Speculation Christian Petracca [UFA 2029]

I think Petracca will go because in the AFL drafting rules you are allowed to leave a contract if there are extenuating circumstances.
In this case it was the lack of duty of care resulting in a life threatening injury.

This sounds exactly like Ryder when he wanted away from Essendon.

Pretty sur he threatened to undertake the Grievance process if we didn't allow him to be traded out.

Its pretty comical listening to the 'wants to go to <insert>'.

If he could take his pick it would be Collingwood. Family are mad pies supporters and his dad was really annoyed he re-signed with the Dees as he wanted him to go to the Pies.

But the Pies have no trade currency so its highly unlikely but if he could choose that would be his destination.

Watching blues and collingwood supporters attempting to pick over the rotting, bloated corpse of my club hurts my soul.

No idea what his value is, but a trade won’t be done at a discount. Legitimate concerns about his ability to return from a freak injury, but prior to that was on track for a 5th AA and had the 16th longest consecutive games played streak in competition history. Has consistently been a top 5 player in the comp and if he gets back to close to his best his contract (while one of the biggest in the comp) is accurate for his value.

There’s not many comparable trades for players of his ilk (and most similar trades have been uncontracted free agents) - would anticipate multiple first round picks including a top 8 this year would be the minimum. 3x picks in the teens or 2x teens picks and Cerra from Carlton is a bit short of the mark. No idea how Collingwood would even come close to getting the assets required together.

The medical negligence issue is being seriously misconstrued - his issue with the injury was the lack of communication, support and understanding from ‘senior figures in the club’ (no idea whether that’s coaches, players or admin), not the medical treatment he received from the club.

All noted. But the elephant in the room is that he can't get his HR over 100bpm.

That's a red flag for anyone.

I'm not coughing up 3 firsts until I'm guaranteed he can rectify this problem.

I'd say his injury has been understated, and at 29, is damaged goods. Also factor in his back ended contract will command $1.7m in one of those seasons!!

Better for everyone that he stays for mine. Buyer beware.

That’s standard for the type of injury. Mason cox was the same 12 months earlier and came back fine. Wouldn’t be blowing it out of the water.

It’s 110 and he’s been instructed to keep it below that as a guide for strenuous exercise

I’m tipping we will get 26.

Clubs are willing to part with 2nd round picks as he will be a walk up start in there best 22.

Will he? He's a massive turnover merchant as you know and Gold Coast have a lot of extremely talented youngsters coming through. I give it half a season and Dimma will have moved on from him. He will be a depth player at best. Not someone you give up a second round pick for.

Weird the Dees President can't say if they'll hold Trac to contract, but is happy to talk about Kozzy staying at the club.

Tom Morris:

Melbourne president Kate Roffey refuses to confirm the club will hold Christian Petracca to his contract. She says it’s not her area, via WhateleySEN
Surely if the Dees still had the same strong stance, she’d simply reiterate what Gary Pert, Alan Richardson & Simon Goodwin have said over the past fortnight…
On Kozzy: “They all get homesick from time to time.” Roffey is happy to talk about Pickett staying put, but says Petracca is not in her remit. Suggests it’s a media blow-up.

If I’m the dees I’d start a rebuild if all these guys want out. So either top end picks or players 23 and under. What good is Harry McKay at his age in a rebuild?

Any lawyers on here think that petraccas contract could actually be legally void, after his medical mistreatment?
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Petracca himself say there was nothing wrong with the medical treatment he received, he was disappointed that the club didn’t contact him enough when he was in hospital?

Not even worth that. A pick around the 40's would be about right.
He is contracted, played over 100 games in 5 years. Has gotten better every year and is a solid best 22 player in his current team. He will be 28 next year. That's a good 2nd rounder every day of the week. Not a 3rd rounder almost free to a good home pick.

You realise Club Doctors have to abide by the Hippocratic oath to DO NO HARM, right? If their decision lead to serious implications, that falls on the Dr, not the club. As long as the club has taken all acceptable measures to make sure that at that time, the players is fit to play, the club is in the clear. The call falls to the Dr. This needs to be made as clear as possible.
Do the doctors have X-ray machines readily available to check for internal injuries?
If a player comes off a lot of what the doctor does is from what the player is telling him if the player really wants to get back out there ( which was apparently what Trac wanted) it’s not that hard to tell the doctor what he wants to hear to allow him to go back out there!

And if we dont get what we want, he stays. We're not gonna get ripped off again like last year

Both Trac and Melbourne have leaked at times to the media. But who is leaking to Sam McClure? I thought it was weird that Sam mentioned on Footy Classified he had never been to Max Gawn's wine bar. A strange remark given we know that McClure drinks out of pub urinal. However, I think Max Gawn has become jealous and is now leaking against Trac.

Yeah he will, he’s a good honest defender and a hard runner, Dimma will love him.

People praise Gawn as a great captain.

He speaks OK without speaking great,

Gawn has never screamed out leader tbh, Oliver stuff is perfect example, he got worse when he moved into Max place.

Wants to be one of the lads and not a leader which sounds like the biggest issue at Melbourne.

If I am the Dees I am reviewing the entire place ASAP and working out why they want to leave and if it’s salvageable before blowing it up. Pointless bringing in new players if the issues/people who are causing the problems remain.

From the outside Petracca looked a stand up human, who did everything right to ensure success for the club. Alex Neal Bullen very much the same.. Jack Viney was entertaining offers from North before ultimately staying put. It is clear there are major issues within the group that the club need to resolve..

If getting rid of Goodwin and Oliver means Trac & Kozi stay it becomes an easy decision.

I know he isn't coming to Adelaide, but I would be livid if my club was trying to get him.
Massive risks. He's not over the mental side of his injury yet, will never be the same player he was, obviously is difficult to get along with, and is tied up in a massive contract over a million a year until 2029, and will be 29 at the start of the season. That's a terrible risk for 3ven a second rounder

Calling it now, wont play 12 games.

Rioli, Powell, Weller, Uwland, Budarick, WGraham.

All better players than Noble.

If you get 26 you take it and run.
