I don't blame them for trying but I would not be redoing his contract if I am Essendon, he was happy to sign for 850-900k under mill when he did it.

The whole point of list management is to get your best playing for a little bit less to try & win a Premiership.
Merrett's management clearly leaked it to Tom Morris.
