Speculation Zach Merrett [UFA 2027]

Of all the Essendon players to target, they're looking at the most untouchable one?

I'm not sure that makes sense.

Essendons young players are awful and incredibly soft like Cox the saints finished strongly and will be more successful than the bombers in near future
quite ironic that one,as i reckon his old man got reported every time he played against us,he was an angry man,at least when he played the saints, dont know what happened with the son, maybe someone will light his angry fuse soon

This feels like the 2024 version of Clayton Oliver to Adelaide.

The media just making shit up to get clicks.

lol

if you think that, you are very, very far behind.

2 low firsts would be the absolute minimum starting point. Would even pick up the phone for anything less.
he's talented but at 29 i don't think he's worth top 10 picks. at 24-25 absolutely.

Unless his position is untenable there's no way essendon will let him go for his 'true' value

Heard this morning that Laverde is playing a role in this.

He has met with St.Kilda multiple times and let them know Merrett is furious with list decisions at Essendon. They are close.

Merrett thinks Laverde and Stringer are important to them playing finals in the next 2 years, where as Rosa doesnt.
Well, Merrett's a complete ****ing clown then, because those 2 are a big problem.

From Merretts position though, hes 28 years old, nearly 29. He wants finals and opportunity.

Whether thats at the saints or not remains to be seen, but Essendon booting out experienced forwards and defenders doesnt help his chances.

Nathan Buckley with some very interesting comments on SEN this morning. Stating Merrett has knocked back multiple offers elsewhere over his journey (Carlton came hard from memory) and is now not getting the love back from the dons in terms of who they are walking out the door.

Clearly, there is some sort of interest in exploring options from Zac Merretts side.

This would be devastating for Essendon.

You know on the sum of it, Neale went for #6 and effectively a mid second round (after you calculate picks back and forth), and he was 4 years younger.

Both had 2 B&F at that age. Merrett one AA vs Neale three AA40.

Pick 7 (or 8) plus a future 2nd is about the mark.

Won’t happen though.

Merrett now is a much better player than Neale was when he was at Fremantle.

confusing comparison

would be 2 firsts, at a minimum if this was in any way real. Anything but would be laughed out of the building.

I get he wants finals and opportunity.

Begging the coach to give long-term deals to Stringer and Laverde is implying that he in fact does not want finals and opportunity. Those 2 are liabilities.

his true value is probably 1 top 10 first and a late 1st/very early 2nd.

but the fact he's contracted long term.

2 x top 10 firsts

Stringers just come 12th in the coleman.

Walks into every team in the comps forward line.

If he leaves they have the worst forward line in the comp. Hands down.

1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% agree

Goals aren't everything.

Just ask Carlton and Matt Owies.

Stringer goes when he feels like it and is a defensive liability.

Their forwardline needs to be built around Caddy and with Kako coming in, should look a lot more promising for the future.

Stringer will be 31 at the start of next season. Giving him a multi-year deal at Essendon would be stupid. See how he goes next year and if he performs, offer him an extension.

He was the one happy enough to sign a trigger for security. Now it's actually happening he's cracking the sads and getting his mate to put heat on the coach?

**** off. This embodies everything that's been wrong with the Bombers for 20+ years. They've finally moved Dodo and Sheedy on, letting players pull the list-management strings is the next thing that needs to die for the club to become successful.

He might be a better player now than Neale was then, but it was obvious about Neale’s potential. Plus Merrett now is 4 years closer to his career being done. He might be worth two firsts if they were 17 & 18, but he isn’t worth two firsts being 7 & 8.

Dreaming. He's got the better part of a decade left in him.

well i mean, that would be laughed at the door.

Merrett on his own is a top 10 + either a late first or early 2nd.

take into the account he's long term contracted and its two early firsts all day.

St kilda aren't reportedly offering him well over a mil a year because they think he is done anytime soon rofl.

I don't necessarily disagree but there are pretty good reasons why he has received virtually 0 interest from opposition clubs despite reportedly wanting out.

I think the Battle compo will be end of first round.

So Pick 7 and Pick 21 as it currently stands is about right in a trade for Merrett given age.

But if im Essendon, you gotta ask the question on Nasiah Wanganeen Milera.

he has kicked 40 goals or more twice in the 6 odd years he has been with us.

don't get sucked in.

There's a reason no one's diving over their chair to sign him. he is ****in lazy and does not do what's required to be a professional.
