Porter has been (is being?) referred to the legal practice board of WA to determine if he is fit to practice law.

What I am hearing is, this would be seen as fairly normal for a lawyer facing this sort of accusations.

Could we end up with an AG stripped of the right to practice law as he has been stripped by a legal practice board as unfit?

Whilst I thankfully have no first hand experience of dealing with a legal practice board i have heard how they operate generally - from those who have represented others. As you would imagine they are pretty strict in how they view matters. But also strict in their legalistic interpretation.

Unless other facts arise, right now we have an allegation that didn’t make it to a police complaint. My guess is a legal practice board would be even more disinclined than me to look at it further. There is simply nothing to review. Unless other events/behaviours came to light I couldn’t see how it gets to any sort of hearing.

But good attention for a couple of community-minded academics from Melbourne. If the WA legal practice board is anything like their premier not sure how interested they will be in the submissions from a couple of lecturers from Melbourne!

I haven't read the whole email (as far as I know the entirety hasn't been released), but it hasn't been denied that it included the following:

"did not go through the Firm’s due consultation or approval process. Had it done so, we would have considered the matter through the lens of our Purpose and our Values”

and

"The nature of this matter is clearly causing hurt to some of you, and it has certainly triggered hurt for me. I know that for many it may be a tough day, and I want to apologise for the pain you may be experiencing.”

I doubt anyone would have taken too kindly to an internal dispute being aired to thousands of his colleagues before it was raised with him, let alone the implication he had caused hurt to some of them and acted in a manner against the firms values.
