Most interesting point of the night was Sam Mitchell's appraisal of the importance of Buddy's game in in 2013 GF and how vital his sacrificial role was in us winning the flag.

Another important reminder, one not lost on most here, was that Stratton deserves as much (if not more) credit than Burgonne for our 2013 prelim win over Geelong in that last quarter.

Clarko just wanted /expected someone from the HFC to at least contact him about the report been a bit of a bomb and that he should expect a bit of heat. We didn't do that and that pissed him and fages off so they've cracked the Sads. Needs to get over it .

You can't understand why he'd have a little bit of a sour taste in his mouth? Probably a bit more time needs to pass.

Did anybody mention Clarko during the event?

That’s true - if I’d ruined my previous employer’s business to the point where it’ll take the better part of a decade to repair the damage I’d be coy on returning there for a social gathering too.

Huh? You're saying that all the allegations are true?

I was talking about our list.

And yeah at least some elements of the accusations have been confirmed and are just weird. Not making any judgements on all of them - that’s for others.

It is true Kennedy,Jeans and Clarkson were all great footy coaches of this club but only 2 of them were great mentors and elite life coaches

Yeah it is hard to see Kennedy or Jeans saying 'yeah I will come to your missus' house and sit in the room with you while you break it off with her' - I think both of them would have told the bloke to grow up and do it himself if that's what he wanted to do.

Plenty of players at our 2013 reunion last night (plus Buddy) would strongly disagree with you if you’re referring to Clarkson. In fact Clarkson one of the few who was far more concerned in players welfare and life outside / after footy than any of the other modern coaches at his heyday. Probably to his detriment.

Don't forget Clarko (and his management) had just played hard ball with regarding the coaching handover and was being paid the full $900K for not working. I have no doubt the hubs played a big part in relationships falling apart.

Last night there was no Clarko, Buddy, Cyril, Gunna, Fages at the event. I was glad to see other coaches/staff that have left and gone to other clubs at the event so the club can't have been that bad a place to work during that time.

It was a good night and glad I went but not a great night, I found the 1983 Reunion held earlier in the year to be better.

I get the feeling some of the players need to be out of the game (either playing, coaching, commentating) longer to appreciate what the real world is all about.

This doesn't mean he was 100% a saint though. I once worked with a manager who people loved because they were very protective over their favourite staff and gave them preferential treatment and treated those who were on the outer with an absolute iron fist to the point where working for her was intolerable. She got seconded into my team and for some reason took a disliking to me so made my life utter hell for months despite my old manager and present manage once removed having zero issues with my work and making me a senior member of the team. It got to the point where I had to bring it to a head and tell my MOR that she was making it impossible to work and was destroying any enjoyment I used to have in the role. He convened a meeting between the two of us that when I laid out how disproportionately she treated me compared to other people in the team (towards the end of laying this out I let out quite a bit of anger and frustration and asked her to go ask several other managers if they shared the same concerns with my work because I knew they didn't and her criticisms were utter crap) and mentioned that her reputation was based on bullying people and it was bullshit behaviour. The meeting got rapt up because I had reduced her to tears - needless to say we had a harmonious working relationship from that day forward.

So - I am sure there are legends of our club that absolutely adore Clarko both as a coach but also a mentor outside of footy. But clearly there are more than a handful of players who have a very different experience.

Again - there's concerned and there's controlling. I think that line was more than straddled at times and I think it is okay to say the bloke achieved a lot, was clearly a good influence on some players but that others didn't come away from his style of mentorship with a good outcome. I can respect what Clarko achieved but also be critical of some pretty bizarre behaviour. I don't think Yabby or Kanga would have overstepped in quite the same manner.

Rough, Hodge, Mitchell and Lake up there on the couch was very entertaining. Some good banter as you'd imagine. Lake reckons the only reason Gunston wasn't there was because he's still salty for not winning the Norm Smith 🤣

Hodge had his say about his infamous half time speech where he said he hoped Freo kicked the next 4 goals. Meant to say if it happened, they had process in place and not to be worried. But of course it all came out wrong

Roughhead's stellar season was given a lot of praise. He reckons that forward line was like an all-star team, and hard to disagree with him

Them all giving Bichall shit for missing his flight and Mad Monday because he was too hungover. Was glad to see Birch make it down.

Also on the couch was Brad Hill (great to see him there), Smith, Burgoyne and Lewis. Lot of digs towards Smith throughout the night for going to Geelong. Lewis complaining he wasn't in any of the highlights. Burgoyne saying his injuries before coming to Hawthorn were overstated. Brad Hill putting his brother in place one drunken night after he was getting stuck into him saying he was the better player only to go all quiet when Brad asked him how many premierships he played in

Spoke to fair few of the players. Hodgey's an absolute legend. Interesting to hear him say he'd prefer to go into coaching than commentary, so wonder if we'll see that one day. Stratts pretty loose and loving life in coastal WA. Also spoke to Hale, Sewell and Burgonyne who's bloody huge in real life.

Real surprise was how good a singer Guerra is. Him and whole team belted out Horses at the end and he nailed it.

Thank you for sharing ! Good to hear Hodgey has interest in coaching.

Come on Hawks bring Hodgey home to help as an assistant in 2024. I will spew if he end up at the lions coaching !

Sounds like a great night, I wish they free streamed it via purchasing an online ticket.

Love it that the boys stuck it into smithy about the cats.

😊 Glad to see the boys enjoying themself despite the absentees.

Again it was awesome you shared the storeys, thank you.

no worries at all. My only regret was not getting a chance to speak to Peter Knights, who was one of the guests.
