just heard rex's eulogy, my god its so sad :(

i reckon we're so sad about it cause we feel like we know him personally, but most of us having never met him.

This is true. Being there I felt a little bit out of place - I was so moved but obviously could not have been feeling anything close to what his family, friends and colleagues were.

I taped it off Sky News and just watched it then.

Wonderful service, had tears in my eyes quite a few times.

God we are going to miss him. The start of football season will really hit home and open the wounds again.

Felt shivers up my spine when they showed his exercise book full of the notes he took while watching footy as a kid.

A classy, and fitting celebration of Clinton's life. It amazes me the strength of those grieving, how they can speak at times like this. I cried a few times.. particularly after Rex's eulogy. I loved Bruce McAvaney's comments about how if he had his time again, as a 15 year old, Clinton Gribas would be the one he would look to to emulate.... and I loved the story of Clinton's 8 pens - all layed out side by side before a call - by Gerard Healy... it showed us the very human side of Clinton Gribas. He will be sorely missed.

It seems that SkyNews interactive channel has the service on loop today for those who missed it.

I went to the service and was just very touched. His life mirrored that of mine and my brother's and as people have said it felt like he was your best mate. As his brother mentioned, Clinton now has the best seat in the house for every sporting event he ever wants to see. A special talent.
RIP Clinton.

I feel like I lost someone close to me. Had tears in my eyes when rex said his final words. and when they were taking his casket away to that music. It's gonna be so hard watching footy this year without Clinton. And Eddie hit the nail on the head, when he said about when Clinton was commentating your teams game when they were victorious it was one of the best feelings.

I've got the comeback on dvd and I always listen to the 3aw call because Clinton is so good in that!

Gerrard Healy's eulogy was absolutely fantastic.:thumbsu:

When Rex said 'Perhaps I just miss my friend' was the moment that really hit you imo.

Intense stuff.

If anyone finds a youtube video of the eulogies, posting them here would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've got the channel 9 4:30 news on atm. hopefully they might show a bit of it...... maybe:eek:
Because I didn't see it & I don't have foxtell. But I'm no good at funerals....

"Sometimes the tapes don't lie"

The final words by Graeme Bond about his mate Clinton Grybas.

I was lucky enough to attend todays funeral for Clinton.

Thankfully not a religious service even though it was held in a church.

The order of service:

Open and Welcome by Tony Charlton.

Tony MC'd the whole proceedings. Did a wonderful job. Many quotes from famous people linking into the various speakers and giving an overview of what each speaker would talk about.

Tony said he only meet Clinton twice but was honoured that the family asked him to be MC. He also said after listening to Clinton on the radio he actually rang him up (my memory fails a bit here) but essentially just to congratulate him on his work on the radio (words to that effect)

1st speaker: Ashley Grybas. Talked about "Clint" how they as brothers would fit and mum would threaten with the wooden spoon or if that didnt work "wait till your dad gets home". Also spoke of the way Clinton was with his daughter - her God father.

Audio visual tribute (To Clinton's professional work)

2nd speaker: Gerard Healy. Spoke very well. Talked about Clinton and his 8 pens. He had the black, the blue, the red, the thick one, the one to score goals, another to score the points etc. Said after a year of always finding his pens missing he started to bring a 9th and 10th pen just to make sure his co-commentators wouldnt knock off his 8 pens. Gerard also spoke of CG being quite professional and demanding the same of the backroom people, the sound recordists etc. Probably the first time you would have heard something of anger from Clinton.

3rd speaker: Graeme Bond. Bondy spoke about getting Clinton over from the ABC. About sharing an office together until last year when he (I gather) got his own office. Graeme or Tony (cant remember exactly who) said that the schedules for 2008 where all drawn up. CG was going to be AW's lead man at the Olympics and various other sporting events, not just football.

GB last words where "Sometimes the tapes dont lie" as in CG was the best, you only have to listen to his body of work.

Tony Charlton then said Clinton was that the 2000 Olympics and heard Shine by Vanessa Amorosi and it was his favourite song. Whilst talking the band came on and VA sang "Shine"

Maybe just me but as good as it was an accoustic version would have been much better...like I say maybe just me.

4th Speaker: Laurenna Toulmin. LT talked about being the secret or hidden girlfriend for over a year before everyone found out. About how they used to say I love you to each other including when she got up at 04.30am to do the traffic reports it sounded more like "I uvv u" from a very sleepy CG.

Another audio visual, this time of more personal pics from his boyhood to travels around the world to people he had worked with.

Fifth speaker: Rex Hunt. Wow. very emotional. His final words ... which he just got out..was something like "If life is supposed to be so good.... why do I feel so sad"....... That speech did it for a lot of people. I didnt hear anyone balling their eyes out but there couldnt have been many dry eyes after that.

Mike Brady came out and sang "Up there Cazaly" and did it well and personally it was not out of place.

Closing remarks by Tony Charlton and then the coffin left to the music haunting music of "Time to say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

Busty, thank you for this.

How good was his scrap book when he was about 12 and his commentary as a kid.

There is going to have to have an award in honour of Clinton, because he goes down as one of the best ever.

Sky News interactive has dedicated 1 of it's 8 channels to Clinton's funeral for those who missed it. It probably will be on continous replay for several hours. It's on it's second or 3rd run and Healey is talking. Just mentioned his 8 pens and serial pen thieves, adding his 9th and 10th pen.

From the news report it seemed like a very moving and fitting service to say goodbye to Clinton. Got a bit teary myself just watching that little bit.

I'm not normally upset when a media personality passes, but this is just incredibly sad. The service was very moving, and it's even got me teary.

I can't put into words how much Clinton will be missed by the entire football community. He was one of a kind.

Saw the report from the service on ten news. Couldn't help but shed a tear when rex said he'd lost his best friend. Extremely sad.

I just read the stuff about the funeral service on AFL.com, very touching.....:(
I don't think I'm going to be able to see it on the news up here..... I hope so but I wouldn't count on it  Hopefully it might be on youtube or something like that.

You'd have to be a pretty hard type not to tear up at least a little listening to Rex's speech. Highly emotional, well spoken Rex

Great summary Rusty. I only saw clips of it but got emotional - love the story about the 8 pens.

Is anyone recorded it, can you put some clips on You tube. I would love to hear and watch the full speeches by Rex, Gerard and Lourenna
