Definite historical link between WA and Essendon. Starts from the fact that at least 1000 Essendon members are in WA itself.

Historic links include Albert Thurgood, Alec Epis and Graham Moss.
You forgot Courtney Johns. ;)

And Leon Baker. And "Premiership Player" Derek Kickett. And West Coast Eagles draftee Tim Watson ;)

I've barely noticed the Hawthorn thing, even growing up right when they hit their premiership in 2008 – and with Buddy. I believe it's an older thing.

Carlton are well represented, but for me, Essendon and North are the two big interstate clubs here. The Bombers were sometimes more repped than Freo at footy jumper school days, but North are the ones where you just bump into heaps of random fans. Especially on nights out. Mouthy pricks they usually are.

I've lived i Perth ,y entire life and can say I know one Carlton supporter.

Hawthorn, North and Essendon in that order tends to be the teams followed.

In terms of playing lists, Collingwood rarely seem to pick up WA boys in the national draft but have had a few success stories with them in the rookie draft.

Lockyer, O'Brien, Wellingham and Toovey spring to mind.

We don't draft anyone from WA anymore after Yeo left not that that state has been very successful for a while at under 18s

We also now seem destined to stay away from SA after losing 2 top 10 picks in Aish and Polec

So that basically leaves Victoria Tasmania and Northern Territory for the Lions to pick from

Edit; Sorry that should have been Northern Territory
Do the lions draft at all from the territory?
It would be smart to have a crack, always a few talents and it's not far for the kids to fly home for a day or two if need be.

Essendon has huge support in Queensland. Last time I went to an Essendon - Lions game at the GABBA it almost felt like it was our home game.

I can back this up. Went to the Lions game in 2014 and there was a sea of red or black walking to the Gabba. Got into the ground and most of the fans were supporting Essendon. Strange sight.

North having Barry Cable, Ross Glendening and the Krakoer brothers may have a lot to do with us having a following in WA. Also Peter Bell. On our current list we have Andrew Swallow & Aaron Black. So a bit of a connection there.

I don't know if we draft from there but we have a huge following in the NT I think the person we last drafted from the NT was Jared Brennan

Looks like they haven't updated the draftees yet.
3 from VIC and 1 from WA.
The rookies are 2 from WA, 1 from QLD, 1 from NT, 1 from VIC and 1 from Ireland.

Summary:

WA 18/45 40%
Vic 15/45 33%
SA 5/45 11%
QLD 3/45 7%
TAS 2/45 4%
NT 1/45 1%
Ireland 1/45 1%

= 45/45

= 97%

That's weird.
Hardly ever bump into them over here.
Even at Nth games

Peter Motley too.

Mark Naley too.

Syd Jackson, Ross Ditchburn, Mike Fitzpatrick and Warren Ralph from WA.

For me, West Coast seem to have some sort of connection to SA.

Waters, Hurn and Hynes.

due being called 'Blues', Carlton have a large following in Adelaide due to many Sturt people barracking for Carlton - ew, the combination makes me shudder. Interesting, that despite both being tigers, there doesn't seem to be many Glenelg people follow Richmond
