due being called 'Blues', Carlton have a large following in Adelaide due to many Sturt people barracking for Carlton - ew, the combination makes me shudder. Interesting, that despite both being tigers, there doesn't seem to be many Glenelg people follow Richmond
I've always wondered, since West Adelaide have the same colours, do they have a large Essendon contingent?

Port Adelaide had a strong Collingwood link because of their emblem & colours, also Greg Philips, Bruce Abernathy, Mark Williams, Nathan Buckley, Alan Didak and John Cahill.

And now, Tim Broomhead.

yes they do actually, however there aint too many Westies fans out there compared to Sturt. Probably the 2nd lowest supporter base in the SANFL, however they did out number the Eagles fans at this years grand final

Would you say that the big Vic clubs in Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon have the most fans in Adelaide outside of the home clubs?

From what I've gathered, Carlton is the 3rd team in SA after Adelaide and Port.

I "support" the bloods in the SANFL for similar reasons haha.

Yep. These 3 plus Hawthorn. Mainly due to these clubs having large numbers of successful SA recruits as well as these being successful clubs when the VFL started being telecast into SA in the 80s. Richmond, whilst big in Vic aren't in SA because they didn't have any decent SA recruits and where in severe demise by the mid eighties.

There was a bit of cross over between Collingwood & Port in the 70s & 80s. Chris Dalkin and Russell Johnston among some young Collingwood players I thought were going to be good but didn't quite make it and ended up Port. Johnston was a very good player for them and I think ended up captain at some point. I also recall him playing for SA.
