Coach Coaching 2022

I would love Harvs as an assistant coach. He has had IP from Carlton...meh and Collingwood where there was enough money to throw at anything cutting edge to assist performance.
Whilst I like Sammy surely like for like coaching Harvs is a massive upgrade and our mids need all the help they can get and if that's Harvs then bring it on.
He is a favourite son and hope he has gotten over the non appointment a few years ago.

Wonder where we would becif we had stuck with him rather than Waters iirc.

Harves would be an upgrade. But hypothetically.

Ratten gets sacked at the end of his deal next season.

what are you doing with Harves? Putting him back in the process a 3rd time only to choose someone else?

it’s just awkward

Would the the same theory apply at Collingwood with Lepper and Bolton then? Or even Voss at PA

No.

they aren’t favourite sons coming back who are looking to be senior coaches. Who we have already soured the relationship with at one point because of burning them in a coaching search.

Hey Rob, we'd love you here, but we're worried you might get your nose out of joint if we don't put you in charge after we sack Ratten?
I think that's getting way ahead of how the club think.

I’m just pointing out that last time it was an issue. Had a good chat with Harves at the cricket club not long after that.

you can think it’s not an issue. But with someone like Harves maintaining a good relationship is very important.

I suspect this is Harves but I wonder whether Leigh Montagna has any aspirations to be a coach. His footy smarts are clearly evident as a commentator.

They need to get Brendan Goddard in just to get his voice off radio.

Harvey has probably had experience to be pretty good at it.
People like Montagna , he's been out of it too long.

Thing is its really hard from the outside to know which coaches are doing well and showing aptitude.
My Boss is a Hawks supporter. He said that when they appointed Clarkson he was like "who the hell is this little midget "?
( Did anyone notice him when he was an assistant at the Saints ).
He didn't spend that long in the system though.
1 year at StKilda, a year coaching a VFL side, a year coaching a SAFL side, a year at Port , then the Hawks.

I had the same feeling of incredulous confusion when Ross Lyon was announced as the Saints coach.

There is always someone who jumps out of the box. Some of these guys have quietly built up a coaching resume and turn out to be the best. Clarkson, Lyon, Pagan, Malthouse, hardwick and guys like that. Nothing wrong with having a very good support crew either, I dont give a rats arse if the incumbent feels threatened about his contract. Club glory is bigger than the individual and club leaders need to be all over this.
It is not just about getting a good team of players together either.

I’m sure he won’t mind being assistant to Clarko 😉

He's been the midfield coach at Brisbane for a few years now.

Very experienced and apparently very good with developing young mids.

He's coached his own side including Sandy Dragons and Collingwood VFL. He was VFL coach of the year at one stage.

I think he'd be a great fit for us.
Hopefully Fages recommends us to him with the Hawthorn influence at our club - Ratts, Rath, Roughy

Latest story in AFL website from Pt Adelaide. FM basically says Voss needs to make a decision on his coaching future asap. Seems harsh, he hasn't got the Carlton job guaranteed and is out of contact at Port.

Would love him as an assistant at the Saints
That would be the type of coach we would love at the saints. Would he come to the saints though? What's in it for him? Would make a massive difference.

Enright is being hunted by the saints

From what I can find it looks like he's been development coach at the Cats since 2017. What do we think of his work there? The Cats haven't had many early picks, and they prefer fielding the older guys, but I'm struggling to see a decent, if any, body of work here. Most of the Cats current 22 were traded in, free agents, or mature age recruits. Their kids largely haven't made the grade.
