Cockburn firming up

The Mayans did predict the world would end in 2012. Maybe the people at Dockerland develop a Doomsday device.

I don't know if the question has ever been asked or not but I was wondering if anyone knows how many teams have "new" state of the art facilities? North? No flag in years. St Kilda? No flag in Years. How about WC? I don't think Subi is that state of the art. How about Geelong? If not, it hasn't stopped them from succeeding. Anyone know

Wasn't Morabito wearing one of those the other day?

Edit: Saw this on the Freo Instagram page

Heh, I didn't see this before, I took your post (without pic) as some obscure reference to the emperor/star wars. :p

True. That could go to some lengths to explain the hulk-like state he's currently in veins popping and all.

This agreement is non-binding until Council has considered and endorsed a Business Plan for the integrated facility as a requirement of the Local Government Act (LGA), 1995 (Section 3.59). Proceeding with the integrated project is subject to external funding for both parties towards the entire project. The integrated facility Business Plan will be presented to Council for consideration in early 2013.

Reading the document it clearly states 2 things.

1) A HoA only allows them to go to the next stage which is to prepare a business plan for the proposal. This business plan is due to be presented to council in February 2013
2) There are clearly 2 options in the HoA. Option 1 doesnt include the FFC and option 2 includes the FFC. The plan can move forward with either option.

This is clearly not a done deal

I really think this is a great move. We are going to have state of the art facilities, all while the Eagles down the road will be losing Subiaco and possibly training at Leedervile or something like that. I think the days of the culbs being based in there actual town will soon be gone. Collingwood dont train in Collingwood. I think it will be a matter of time until West Coast have there own new facilities built

But how would you feel if we were going to get equivalent facilities at freo oval?
This is the bit I can't work out, how are the promised facilities and arrangements at Cockburn different from those promised at Freo?
If Cockburn is much better then I agree we should go, but for those of us like me that don't understand can someone dumb it down and explain how the two proposals differ?

Surely we can use a common sense approach and assume that the Cockburn facilities are in some way superior to the ones possible (or being offered) at Freo Oval. Why would the club relocate at a high cost for no reason? If its for a small % increase in standard of facilities then you could argue about whether its worth the cost/move.. but surely if they are wanting this move its because it will be of some benefit?

I am not sure though whether they do differ dramatically now, that is the point.
Wasn't the club quite correctly and cleverly playing one off against the other to maximise our benefit, so some people are saying Cockburn may have started with a much better proposal but now Freo has come somewhere near to matching it? I don't know if this is true or not though.

How would you guys feel about a move to Cockburn Coast?

Just down Hampton Rd from Fremantle Oval and in the middle of what will be an excellent area in the long term.

I don't think that is an option. The way I understand it, Cockburn Council are developing that specific plot of land on the corner of Beeliar Drive and North Lake Road into a community aquatic and recreational centre. They will do it regardless of whether the club decides to move or not. The option is there for the club to get on board and co-locate to that specific location only. I don't think the club is in any position to pick and choose other locations around the place, not unless they want to buy the site outright and pay the whole cost of the redevelopment - which we don't have the money for of course.

Im wondering whether time of completion has anything to do with the preference to build at Cockburn as much as the facilities themselves? If the improvement was minimal (but still visible) but could be completed 12-24 months quicker would that sway some people?

Im just struggling to see how/why the Steve's would want to relocate without very good reason to do so, given the cost, impact on members/supporters and increased pressure to on-field performance which would specifically sit on their heads in particular. I know the Steve's are 'evil', but they have nothing to gain by making this decision on a whim.

Out of curiosity (and because I have never been able to resist the cynic in me), does anyone know if there is something in it personally for any of the FFC proponents trying to push this forward? (I.e. but not limited to the two Steves). And, no, before you guys stone me, this is not a troll, I really am a curious and cynical person.

You're wrong.

No, I dont think I am, well not completely anyway. according to a quick search

http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/a/Essendon-announce-plans-for-new-facility/7862

essendon are moving to a facility at melbourne airport, which has its own post code and is its own suburb... therefore, they have actually moved out of essendon. This article also states that they are going to use windy hill on occasion, which im guessing is what we might do as well

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_Airport,_Victoria

and yes north melbourne are still at arden street. my mistake, they are going through a big upgrade

the other thing that just came to mind.... wasnt the fremantle oval surface also meant to be very hard and condusive to injury? I seem to remember something being said about that. If that was the case, you would hope that any move to cockburn would include the playing surface to be reviewed and approved to ensure that it is in no way adversely affecting our boys.

I've go no idea. I'm not a Steve's fanboy or a Steve's hater but I've also wondered if the Keep Freo in Freo mob wouldn't have their own personal agenda's as well.

I would say just the size of the development alone would be a big tick for the club. Seriousley look at the size of the club uilding now, its hardly big, on top of that there is no pool facilities. This is the clubs chance to have there own unique facilities. Really i think anyone that does appose this is living in the past, get with the times people football has changed. There is no loyalty in football anymore, that goes for both players and clubs now. If the club thinks that this is in there best interest they really aren't going to care what some people think, just like the decision to get rid of Harvey, they new it may not be a popular decision with some of the clubs die hard fans but guess what, they did it anyway.

You know, that statement is enough to fill a 44 gallon drum full of horse shit.

Where is the HOA with FCC? Where is the FCC having meaningful meetings with our club? Why is Brad Pettitt going on radio saying he thinks they're out of the running? Why are there more leaks than in a Dutch dijk on the Cockburn proposal with everyone giving hand shandies and doing business cases and working on funding arrangements and nothing similar coming on the FCC proposal.

Steve Harris: You are full of shit.
