Whoever is chosen will be a lock to become the honourable 2009 'Richie Vandenberg medalist'. For those unaware it is awarded to the player judged to be the worst captain in the AFL. Named after the Hawthorn skipper from 2005-2007, he was widely acknowledged as the worst captain the AFL has seen.

I assume Matty Lloyd is not eligible for some reason and seeing as he was Essendon captain why is the award not named after him?

My guess would be Pendlebury for the captaincy next year. He's treated like God's son down there.

what about Paul Medhurst?
I think probably Tarkyn Lockyer or Scott Pendlebury or even Medhurst.

i dont think it matters how young you are Scott Pendlebury would fit in very nicely

I'd make Pendlebury the skipper in a heatbeat.

Sure, it might be early but there's a leadership vacuum at the club amongst the players with the ability, longevity and good character necessary to be the club captain.

I don't think Collingwood will make Pendlebury captain though, due to his age and stage of development.

No one else ticks all three boxes though, so any decision will be a compromise. Given the image problems, they'll go with a senior player and good bloke again rather than a more obvious choice.

Josh Fraser probably.

Rocca would get the job if they could trust his body to get itself out onto the park. Can't afford another grandstand-ridden Captain making cameo performances though, so I doubt they'd take the risk with him.

hey John D go easy on Good Old Bucks, after all he is probably one of the best to ever put on the boots

Have they actually made a decision yet? There doesn't seem to be much leadership potential on the Pies list, hence the delay I guess. Pendlebury would be a token selection. He's still trying to find his feet after an average season. Seems quiet and a bit vague at times, and doesn't exactly throw himself into physical contests. A captain needs to be inspirational, courageous and a good communicator. Pendlebury ticks none of those boxes. The other option is someone like Maxwell or Lockyer. Not much footy talent, but at least they give 100% and attack the ball hard. Fraser would be an awkward selecion, as we threatened to walk to the PSD in 2007, after a dispute with Malthouse and Buckley. Not exactly vocal and inspirational on-field either. Who else? Perhaps they name 4 co-captains as an temporary measure. :)

A captain does not need great skills, but they need to be tough, hard working and determined.
