Key forward? Spare me. One lucky season.
You can't just have a lucky season.

Jack Anthony is proof you can. I look forward to revisiting this fact when he is defending for East Freo.

He might not play straight away, but when you're 22 your entitled to have a bad year. delisting him at 22 wasn't a good idea. tell who your back up for cloke and dawes is? I bet he isn't as good as Anthony would of been.

Anthony was a poor back up for Dawes and Cloke, so whats your point? Nowhere near as strong as either of them, he was always a second string forward and the only reason he led our goal kicking for one year is his insane accuracy which is his only good trait

Maybe he was a poor backup due to being played in defence the whole season in your reserves. Couldn't get a gig ahead of the superstar shae mcnamara

If you did your research, you would know he was drafted as a defender. That's right, a defender. Was thrown up forward in the hopes that Daqwesome would come on after getting confidence back post-knee reco. Guess what? This happened and we could pi55 the freak back to where he belonged, a reserves defender.

Yeah you're right. You drafted him as a defender, so even though he has kicked 50 goals in a year at FF let's just play him where we drafted him for. No one even knows the name od your reserves Full Forward, and your idiot coaches wouldn't let Anthony play there.

He had one lucky season and dropped off terribly, hence moving him abck into defence to try and get his confidence back. It failed. He failed. You will fail. For the record, our full forward is shared between Shae McNamara and whoever needs a rest from rucking. Towards the end of the season Josh Fraser generally played full forward. I'm pretty sure most people would have heard of him.

Would laugh if you had to play Shae McNamara instead of Anthony for whatever reason. Would of been nice to have Anthony as a back up.

Again this makes no sense. Anthony wasn't even in our 22 so why do we need anyone to replace Anthony? And Anthony was a defender who could swing forward; we have plenty of those first and foremost being Reid, who is already a more developed player than Anthony

He was a backup for dawes and cloke. unless you plan on using Reid or mcnamara as your backup, you should of used this as he has some worth. And the difference from Reid and Anthony is anthony is proven

I don't think a Freo supporter should be knocking any other club for erroneous trades. It is what your club prides itself on.

Tarrant was a shocker hey?

You mean a forward that played for you as a defender? See the irony? Tazza is an honest defender. Thanks for giving him back.

Tazza wasn't 22 years old.:thumbsu:

Which goes to prove that it can never be too early or too late to switch positions for a player... trying to teach somebody versatlity is not a bad thing. Anthony was a reserves player who after many chances couldn't break into our premiership 22, couldn't play as a team member, would sook badly when things didn't go his way... good riddance. enjoy the golden brat :D

So you couldn't keep Anthony longer to teach him more verstility

A flag threat until Morabito goes down with a knee. Oh wait..........
Yep, our whole flag campaign was resting on a 20 year old. Season over nothing to look forward to now.

Well it rested on old wobbly bones Barlow last year didn't it? Look what happened when he went down. So did you. Quicker than Liz Hurley in a lift.

You are a flog. I remember your thread about Barlow and his leg this year

And making the second week of finals, and winning a final for the first time in 4 years in going down hey.

Anthony actually played up forward in the VFL early on in the season. He was just exposed as a one trick pony, even at VFL level.

I hope you were after a slightly undersized key back, because you've got a beauty.

Maybe playing Dawes ahead was the right choice, obviously it worked, but giving up just a 22 year old 50 goal a year forward after one bad season, and for free. Would of kept on my list for at least another year, what happens if Cloke or Dawes go down? Would of been handy to have anthony in your reserves.

You're painting a very simplistic picture. The Pies wanted JA to stay & offered him a new contract. JA indicated that he would like to be traded, but the Pies couldn't get a satisfactory trade done in trade week. After trade week closed, JA then knocked back the contract that was on offer & said that he would nominate for the draft instead. JA was then delisted, in order to free up an additional pick in the draft for the Pies. JA wouldn't have been delisted if he had wanted to remain at the Pies. Best case scenario would have been to get a trade done, but once trade week was over, there was nothing further the Pies could do. There was no point keeping him on the list once he'd said he wouldn't be at the Pies next year.

As others have said, JA was originally drafted as a defender & it was hoped that he could reinvent himself as a defender in the VFL. It wasn't the case that he wasn't good enough to force his way into the full foward spot in the VFL. The club didn't want him to play as a full forward, so he wasn't played in that position. The VFL side is used very much by the Pies as a development tool, winning games is somewhat secondary.

I'm disappointed that JA left & I hope he works out at Freo (except when playing us). However, he was going to be a depth player next year at the Pies and he didn't want to play that role, so he chose to leave.

Congratulations on your success :thumbsu:
I am now on Epilim due to this post. Cheers ya goose

As you can see, huge improvement. So far in the three seasons they've ended up 3 ladder positions. Even if you didn't make the 8 in 08 They've hardly improved. And that proves my point that Judd < Pavlich in terms of captaincy. Pavlich also has better discipline as well.
you are not very good at admitting you are wrong
Perhaps try to not talk from out of your bum

Our game plan doesn't allow for any passengers defensively, the hard fact is Jack is not mobile enough for the swarm, he may fit another game plan but I'm betting ours is the wave of the future and no matter how many goals he kicks he'll still be a liability.. he is a great FF in another era

1) Dropped a young Key Forward by the name of Jack Anthony

2) Let him waste away in the VFL side as a defender, that's right, Collingwood's 21 year old 50 goal a year key forward can't even get a gig at FF in the VFL side.

3) Was offered many trades by Fremantle, including numerous with Chris Tarrant and declined.

4) Let this 50 goal a year 22 year old go to Fremantle for free, and at a bad time when Fremantle need a back up forward and will be a flag threat. :thumbsu:

Do you think they let themselves down there?

Great thread :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

In the 25 years since West Coast's arrival dramatically changed the landscape of West Australian football, it is unlikely that a local AFL-listed player has produced a more dire WAFL performance than Jack Anthony’s most recent effort.

The Fremantle forward, who was allocated to Subiaco after being recruited from Collingwood, managed just one handball in the surprise loss to Peel at Medibank Stadium on Saturday

While Anthony has a three-year deal with the Dockers, Subiaco believe he will spend much of that time in the WAFL
The mail from Fremantle to Subiaco is that the AFL club now believes it made a mistake by recruiting Anthony, that he has not gelled with influential players
