From the little that I know about English, his sentence was proper. I was taught that if the sentence without Brown would have been correctly written as: ... conversation with me, then if Brown was involved in the conversation then it's correct to say: ... conversation with Brown and me.
Conversely, if the sentence was: .. I had a conversation with .... If Brown was part of that conversation, then it would be correct to say Brown and I had a conversation with .... (not Brown and me)

Quick tip for knowing when to say "me" and when to say "I".

Take the other person out of the sentence.

Would you say "he had a meeting with I"?
