LOL, I get that you’re taking the piss …

… but who knows, our descendants might lose total interest in the Premiership count and instead invest their energies into trolling Carlton supporters over McLelland trophy wins?

(Obviously that makes no sense to us now, but hey, neither does the Brownlow)

True - my daughters and their friends are idiots.

I guarantee when we hit 17 flags first all those flogs will forget the premiership count

I tell my mates their best year this century resulted in us winning the flag

The AFL are equalising the contribution of the men and women collectively for this award.

For example, the prize money for the men collectively is $250K, and the prize money for the women collectively is also $250K. That’s despite the list sizes being very different.

Given that objective, it makes sense that they try to balance the impact of the AFLW games by giving 8 points per game compared with the men’s 4. Actually, it still favours the men a little, because (23 games x 4 points) > (10 games x 8 points), but I guess they wanted to make the maths very easy.

Maybe you disagree with what they’re doing here? Meh, it’s the AFL’s money to do with what they want, and the world is full of far more crazy prizes - look at how much prize money is out there for little people going around a grass circuit on the back of large quadrupeds.
I understand it is what it is and all that but don't try to justify it. It makes so ****ing sense that an AFLW game holds twice the weight. I bet you even felt stupid typing that.

I don’t see any problem with the AFL giving the AFL and AFLW comps much the same weight? The men get half the prize money, the women get half the prize money. Why shouldn’t their comps have much the same weighting?

* for the men’s and women’s comps to have much the same weighting, they needed women’s games to be worth 8 points because there are fewer of them.

So a Club could finish 3rd in the AFL & 3rd in the AFLW & win this award…rewarding a “we weren’t quite good enough” Club.
Strange award if you ask me.

How is it any different to a club finishing 3rd (or even 8th) in the H&A season, and yet somehow still managing to get crowned Premiers?

The weighting works to weigh the two seasons close enough to equal. It’s not that difficult a concept. Dunno why you are working yourself up over it. It ain’t that big a deal and it’s pretty clear the whole point of the structure is to grow AFLW.

Did you care when the u19 season had the same weight as the seniors?

Seniors was 10 pts, reserves 4pts & U19 2pts.

As for it's current incarnation, after reading the reasoning of my fellow Pies I'm all for it now.

Thanks for the correction - shows how much I ever cared or knew about. Anything that brings a bit of extra interest to aflw can only be a good thing.

Edit: looking at the current standings, there is a decent chance Melbourne and Bris will be playing off for $1m in the final round of aflw. That'll be quite interesting.

They’ll draw and we sneak past them to win it

Is the Maclelland it an old trophy that used to be a combo of Seniors/Ressies and U19?

Where do we sit in the annals of Maclelland Cup history? Are we above the Blues?

Richmond have 7, we have 6 with a few others. So it really is a b/s award. Especially given the format changed from the original "combined" award, to the AFL minor premier, to its new form this year. Named after some wayne kerr from Melbourne.

While there’s such a disparity between the clubs at AFLW level, it is a particularly Wayne Kerr award on aggregate giving double points for the women.

Got to start somewhere though I guess.

Yes, as Sidey answered above.
