It really was a handout. Collingwood benefited from it too but it is unbelievable seeing people whinging about a 15 year goodwill gesture.

Yea as a dees supporter it's time we share it not a big deal, the only thing I would say is if we do share it I would want 1 of our home games each year to be either queens birthday or Anzac eve, that way we still have a big pay day come in, I also think we should lobby to have the MND Freeze game against the bombers on a Friday night

Fair enough. Well next year looks like it will be Collingwood's home game and Anzac eve will be Melbourne's. Hopefully one of your replacement home games for playing in Darwin will be queens bday so a good chance of 80,000 plus baring Collingwood and Melbourne are in the 8 at the time

You go back to the 4.40 Sunday slot where you belong and we'll play Carlton on the queens birthday, Collingwood and Carlton would raise a hell of a lot more money than any game involving your club, and it's all about the money isn't it?

Sharing or alternating works fine but it needs to include Richmond and Essendon.

Then flip it for the next year.

Also have Melbourne play Essendon and Richmond play Collingwood after Anzac Day for similar days break between games.

Eddie does nothing out of self interest. Collingwood did this as it enabled them to have another guaranteed game at the G. They relied on this as part of their MCG agreement and also make money off the day by having reserved seating/social club in the Ponsford Stand.

I have no issue with sharing it, as long as the rest of the fixture is evened out - i.e. we get home games against the Bombers and Blues more than once a decade.

I hate the way it is portrayed though - Melbourne makes this a fixture request (as all clubs lodge fixture requests every year) which the AFL considers when creating the fixture. It has nothing to do with Collingwood, if Collingwood said "we don't want to play as the away team anymore" and Melbourne continued to request to play Collingwood at home on Queens Bday the decision would be up to the AFL. Not Collingwood. It would be pretty stupid for Collingwood to waste one of their fixture requests to request NOT to play on a public holiday, even as the away team.

On the plus side, if it is made Collingwoods home game maybe more of their supporters will actually attend instead of leaving the Ponsford Stand 3/4's empty every year and being outnumbered by Melbourne supporters.

Only the last couple of years mate. From 2006-20013 Collingwood easily outnumbered Melbourne fans. As a home game you will get 50,000 Collingwood fans and if Melbourne can get 35,000 for a replacement game the crowd could be between 85-88,000. Obviously Collingwood must start winning for that to happen

The day is about Freeze MND. Melbourne do not need Collingwood to make this work. It has nothing to do with Collingwood. All Melbourne need to do is request another decent sized Melbourne club to play on the Queens Birthday Monday and pretty much the same number of people will show up.

And every other club in Victoria will be lining up to travel one game less.

Collingwood will lose their extra Melbourne MCG game and they can play Gold Coast on the moon instead.

Collingwood are not an integral part of Queens Birthday. If they want to walk let them.

The AFL is not going to stop promoting the Freeze MND game any time soon.

Collingwood v Melbourne should still keep queens birthday but rotate the home team and spilt gate receipts. It aves 70,000 so like Anzac Day if it ain't broke don't fix it. If pies and dees are top 4 you will get over 80,000 for sure. But for every Collingwood home game make it a Melbourne member replacement game for the two Darwin home games they play each year. I only say this as we know Melbourne fans don't attend away games unless it's a replacement game like Anzac eve when the tiges and dees play in front of 85,000

Melbourne has had 1 home against Essendon over the last 10 years

It's even worse than that. Since the Broadbridge tribute game in Round 1 2005, it's been 12 Essendon home games to one Melbourne home game, which was all the way back in 2010. Doubt you'd find any Essendon supporter who thinks that's fair.

But then, if you look at the fixture year after year there are a few similar examples. We haven't hosted Freo since Round 2 2010, for example, and Adelaide haven't been home to Carlton since 2010 either.

That's just not true, Melbourne supporters generally refuse to go to Docklands for whatever reason I don't understand but if it's at the G most Melbourne supporters won't decide not to go just because it's an away game. Especially when a large proportion are MCC members
