If you actually look at the individual games, other players were equally or far more important. Eg Fritsch kicked 6 in 2021. Dusty 4 in 2020.
Gunston kicked 4 in 2015.

It becomes therefore a question of whether you invest in goal kicking mids/mid talls or talls.

So I am undecided based on the evidenced.
Maybe it’s more about Talls getting you into contention, rather than performance on GF day.
Yes but it’s then a question about whether those smalls kick the goals without the talls bringing it to ground or taking the best defender.

My sense is that you get a lot more dump kicks into the 50 in finals because of the pressure, means the tall forwards don’t get as many lace out options which also means they need to critically bring the ball to ground to limit intercepts and rebounds. This is all a function of the perceived and real pressure on the ball carrier. Something unique to finals and big games.

This is not something that is readily answered and more a philosophical argument but generally teams that win premierships have a dominant key forward….whether he kicks goals or not in my view it’s still a critical component of success.

Like have you had a job? If you have an ongoing contract, you have to prove very well that someone is worth firing otherwise make them redundant if the position is not there then pay severance.

Time based contract you have no out unless they break a rule. "He's just not playing as well" unfortunately is not a contractual rule.
Actually do mate

Thanks for asking. Been in the workforce since I was 16. Few years left till retirement

We are constantly doing projects and tenders where you have to perform. Many times at tender time companies try to get bottom dollar with many others under cutting

Tell ya what. If you do a poor project they remember you and cost cut you next time.

On The Couch

Grundy gone wants go to Melbourne and Melbourne only.

Interesting just hope we don't give him away like Treloar but sounds like we will get sweet * all.

Oh well disappointing, but wish him all the best. I gather this will be announced either tomorrow or Wednesday after his exit interview.
In terms of the team list gives us a better balance and the ability to strengthen up areas that require some bolstering. A big body key forward, big body key back, a forward/mid with pace and good disposal and a clearance mid, maybe two, plus enables us to keep DeGoey...

It was a classic Ned move. Offered a pathetic 3yr deal first up. Then fell hook, line, sinker for the threat of the Crows to pressure us into a 7yr deal. He was never going to Adelaide, even now he doesn’t want to go.

Even if he left for Adelaide we would’ve gotten pick 1 and probably O’Brien as a trade. We’d have Tilthorpe as our future full forward as well as O’Brien who is a solid ruckman.
It’s all good in hindsight, we were on the cusp of a ‘dynasty’, and you can’t tell me Eddie didn’t make those calls. In hindsight we would have let him walk, but we also wouldn’t have signed Beams, Stephenson, Cox and Phillips to big deals…

We won’t get reamed I don’t think
they are gonna be just as desperate to replace Jackson with Gawn getting older , 32 next season.

Hence why it’ll be fair value for picks and we will pick up some of the tab contract wise

It was always heading that way. They were the main one he had multiple meetings with and had the most interest given Jackson leaving, so thos comes at no surprise. Plus he would only want to go to a contender.

Not ideal for us, but lets hope for the best possible deal.
I suspect it would be reasonable, the club aren't in the position of 3 years ago. Grundy alone commands a teen pick let alone if paying part of his salary.

Lol this stretch. Lynch didnt play 17, Boyd had a good series, they finished not even top 4. Brown is barely better than Cekkers last year. Indeed you can argue that the losing teams in those GF often had the better key forwards. Naughton, Hawkins,
This is a sure sign you have no idea what you're taking about. You don't know how much his contract is nor is there such thing as "performing at 600k". If the club made a bad contract, that is purely and clearly a fault of the club, and attacking a player who has given everything over his whole career for the pies is pathetic.

I'd love to see your face when your boss calls you a tool for not taking a 30% pay decrease when you've just been out sick despite working your ass off since you were 18 for them.
Sure do know what I’m talking about!
You can’t compare the average person here, which is what I am and happy to admit.
Your argument is totally flawed.

I don't know why Grundy is that bad guy here. There isn't a person here who would have turned the contract that he was offered down. Don't hate on a player for making the most of his financial situation. The pies offered him the contract. It's not up to him to make list decisions at Collingwood.
We should have called him out from the start. We offered him 4 years and then 5 years. Other clubs were chasing him and he used this as leverage openly asking for 7 years.

yeah, I think our initial offer back then was 3 years? But his manager wanted longer term. Rivals came. The media demanded to give him what he wants... and 7 it was.

Maybe there should have been a compromise and had it at 5 years.
