From what I've read, it seems there depth at the key talls in this year's draft. Which I feel gives us more flexibility in the group of targets we should look at.

Drafting and developing key positions would allow us to look at players like Ben Brown, Nathan Broad, Jack Darling and Tom McDonald who can still offer us a lot at afl level, allow us to continue pushing for a flag for the next couple of years, still be cheaper than a McKay of King option.
Ewww yuk. Why would we want to recruit ageing players, way past their best, which in most cases was not even that good, at the end of their careers?

Hine can talk a lot but say nothing really

That's a good thing I reckon Dave. Plays his cards close to his chest.

I hope the great Dekka can pull out a superstar with Carlton's second rounder. Would be the stuff dreams are made of. Some of our fellow Pies supporters would likely give Blues fans a gentle ribbing over such as an outcome...

The benchmark of elite defenders are May and moore. 800k plus is reserved for match winners like them. HH is a good player, he ain’t a match winner.

This is bang on.

Draft right and you'll find a gun defender.

Big bucks are for the Forwards and Mids.

I like the idea of Callighan fits a real age need and the kids going be a jet.

For areas that we have depth but not top quality. Maybe the goal is to win a VFL flag? Fair chance we'll have Johnson and Kreuger running around in the 2s after the bye. Add Ben Brown or Tom McDonald and we'll have an awesome VFL forward line

What a bunch of hacks, hey. Brown 31, Broad 30, Darling 31, McDonald 31.

I guess that’s what bidding war creates. I’d hope not but who knows.
Wright's not going to make Himmelberg our third highest player. I can't imagine any other club doing it either. - Swans do pay big money for talls though and need kpds, so they'd be my bet if he leaves

You're gonna have to pay to get recruits, as long as it fits our purpose and fits our caps, who gives a crap what they get paid.
The current players and their managers. You also have to pay to keep players.

Dylan Stephens (as Dave said) we tried last OOC period 22yo former Pick #5
Lachie Ash 21yo former Pick #4 (Rumours of GWS cap issues if HH stays)
Brayden Fiorini 25yo former Pick #20 (We were linked last year)
Darcy Parish 25yo former Pick #5 (Geelong and other clubs interested. There have been rumours of us for a while.)

Plenty of options around.
I’d go any of these except Fiorini
We also have a number of young mids that I’m hoping at least 2 will really develop

I'd love to add HH, McKay, Parish etc but i fear we won't be competitive on the salary front for any of them. I mean, we have set out our stall with JDG and Moore our top earners on around 800k-850k or so.

We simply can't offer that same number to any of those three who are all inferior players at this stage. It would create way too much disharmony in the playing ranks when you look at players like Crisp, Mihocek, J Daicos etc.

The Cats busted the cap to sign Jeremy Cameron but.... but he's Jeremy Cameron, arguably the best player in the game. We just could not do it for a B+ in HH, potential B+ in McKay, and maybe almost A-grader in Parish. The player who comes as a free agent to us would have to be prepared to take less than what they get from a St Kilda or North Melbourne etc.

That is my opinion anyway
They'll come for the Fly!

I assume you haven’t watched? He was very concise with his feedback on Macrae, our ruck situation, Condon, how the draft is shaping up and the number of pro scouted types. He was only evasive when the discussion was around type/ role/ individuals not currently at the club.

Where have people got $800,000 from?
Sam McClure and $800k is conservative based on what he can get on the open market. For GWS to retain him the figure being thrown around is $900k. I imagine Collingwood would sit more in the vicinity of $700k. Which for me would be entirely dependent on how the contract is structured and role.

I'm skeptical of the rumoured salaries. It doesn't make sense to me. 10 Harry Himmelberg standard players at those rates and the rest of the list would have to be on minimum wage and your team would suck.

I get that theyd set aside some money for a sign on bonus to recruit players, but not as much as is rumoured in the press.
