Tom Barass is a freak though, like McGovern is as a shorter KPD.

Is anyone really claiming that Dean has the same level of athleticism as Barass?
I know, but since we're talking about height.

We don't actually know what a 19 year old kid will turn into. I don't think anyone is claiming Dean has the same athleticism. Everyone is different, he should use his strengths to be the best player he can be.

He’s a bit on the lean side to be used in a KPD post most likely because the Eagles built him up as a wingman. Anyone bringing him in to play on a wing is wasting their time because like WHE he’s a marking winger and despite being a decent user by foot he doesn’t find enough of it at ground level. I wouldn’t go there as a 3rd tall, but for some reason he’s the buzz on here. I assume it’s because most have a limited viewing of him and it’s on the basis of his size and draft spot…

He’s the buzz on here because

- we have crap KPP stocks
- his age, attributes and potential
- he’s essentially free and a 12 month contract will probably suffice (depending on other clubs interest)

And his WAFL stats, NAB league + AFL highlights are decent

Don’t know why people think giving him a 12 month contract will somehow harm the club or weaken the playing list

Goody a decent highlights package I’m sold! More seriously, age aside, there’s nothing suggesting he’s a long term option at Collingwood? I can’t wait for this little DFA window to close!

There’s nothing suggesting Kelly, Keane, Johnson, McMahon, Begg or Krueger are gonna be on the list in 2025 either.

Hence why we need to keep an open mind when it comes to the Callows, Branders, Skinners, Deans and Schlensongs

Hopefully the club nails 1-2 top 20 KPP options in the draft next year... but no guarantees there either

Being perfectionist regarding cheap mature KPP will get us nowhere longterm

The right cheap mature KPP will get us nowhere longterm

Precisely and given the bolded is the case we need to do the italicised instead of mucking around with speculative types that aren’t even KPP’s. Further investment in talls this year is pointless unless it’s in the pointy end of the draft.

I edited the last sentance for accuracy. To expand further none of those are currently on the market.

Because all the media are saying it and these things are easily leaked, a lot of people (and ex-people) at the club would know, some of Grundy's friends/family will know, his manager will know ect and these people talk.
True that. Most of the media reports of some of our players inflated contracts were spot on. Phillips on 600,000 etc

I’m praying by 2025 we have an established gun FF we can rely on as we should be challenging by then and you need one to succeed.

"Highlights" reel was a little underwhelming. When fingertip touches to prevent goals make the highlights reel you know you are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Would have liked to have seen a few contested intercept marks. Or even one.

Didn't look particularly athletic to me

I wonder if we will attempt to trade back into the draft (early/mid 2nd round) after Daicos bid?
With North declaring they're not bidding, we're currently back in the draft with a couple of picks that will end up somewhere in about the 40s.

There will be more pick trades from us. Depending on who is available, I'd like to see us be patient and gain more in next year's draft, as I think you get better value that way and also this draft is going to be such a dice roll for Vic kids that the difference in results between the 20, 30, 40, 50 picks is likely to be smaller than normal.

If Daicos goes at 3 or 4 I think we can do both

plus we have plenty of other options next year to bolster our 2022 draft hand eg player trades, free agent conpo, trading in future picks etc

Yeah it depends on who we rate. Draft boards are going to be even more varied than normal, thus a bloke we pick at 25 is still a fair chance to be there at 45.

If Hine is bullish about blokes that he knows other clubs rate - trade up. But if his targets haven't gotten much interest - trade into next year's draft.

Yeah, we don't need to do anything with our 2022 draft hand at the moment.

Just take our remaining picks after getting Daicos and see if Hine & co can find a gem in the third round.

Keep our options open as much as possible so that next year we can get further up the order or bring in another player or two that are in the right age bracket.

TBH it's been such an impressive off season that I'll be happy either way. If Hine is bullish about someone and trades up for him, go for it. Or if he has targets that are under the radar, go for the best hand we can get next year.
