My concern is, how do you develop 5 players for the same position? Who plays FF and CHF in the reserves every week when you have so many you are trying to develop?
We’ll we don’t have 5 players in every position, I wish we did…we’ve got Poulter, Macrae, Henry, Bianco, Kelly, Keane, McInnes, Nick Daicos, Tyler and probably a couple more.

The mids in particular play 4-5 games they’re spent and contributions drop off, at that point you rest them or bring them back to the 2’s. If we can carry a mix of three per week (not all in one part of the ground) and we are looking to get games into 10 youngsters that’s about 7 games on average which is good for development. If their form warrants then you play them more of course. Will depend on how the season goes, if we are out of finals contention then you play the kids more so in the second half of the year.

Bottom line is on and off the field good senior players are important for the squad.

Draft can't come soon enough, bring it forward.
Bugger school, the kids could probably concentrate on exams more so with the draft out of the way.

Yeah I hate it's so long Between end of Trade Period and Draft

Given what we've come from last season, I reckon we've done ok for ourselves already this year without sacrificing next year while also having the pre-season draft to fall back on too.

If our worst case scenario this year is basically only Daicos from this draft? I'd be ok with that.
I would not. We desperately need more young talent. We have a lot of young players but not many of them are locks yet for long term best 22 players

Half of our list are in the first three years of the career. If you load up the list too much with young players you end up with a situation like Gold Coast - forever in a perpetual cycle of 18 year olds carrying too much of the burden and burning out by the time they hit 22-26, and the team not progressing.

It depends on what draft hand we give ourselves for next year. I want us to bring in the most talent possible over the next 3 drafts, without focussing solely on this one.

IF GWS bid on a needs basis they should bid on Darcy first, then Daicos. Not certain it will happen like that.

+ WB are more of a competitive threat to GWS than we are.

I reckon the only thing that justifies them bidding for Daicos at pick 2 is that it will stoke rivalry (and bring relevance and publicity to GWS)

Sad but possibly true.
Hoping there is a hand shake agreement with both GWS and GC (especially with the draft pick swaps) not to bid and we'll pay it back when called for.

In a league where North pick up a delisted Suns player who was being re-drafted …

… doubt any club would trust another club not to call them out for draft tampering.

Can people stop pretending that we didn't cash in some of our draft hand this year in last year's draft?

Stating that we will only get Daicos this year is ignoring that we have already picked up some top 30 ranked players last year.

You can critique the decision to bring the picks forward all you want but you can't pretend that we didn't end up with some players out of it.

Yeh, Suns rolled the dice and lost, Although some would argue they have freed up cap space.
Re: Tampering, still remember Chalmers.

N=4

(N=5 if we go up to top 31 ranked …)

Last year was a Sh1tshow but happy to acknowledge we did bring in kids with some real potential that have a year of development rather than looking at this draft in pure isolation.

Daicos is getting us into the very pointy end this year's draft, I don't think GW will be satisfied with just Nick. Plenty to play out IMHO.

If the GCS wanted to stoke rivalry then I'd reckon that they are more likely to build on the rivalry with the Doggies (which is real after the Bont incident in last year's finals) than with the Pies

+ Tom Boyd / Ryan Griffey trade.

Hard to tell, I still think we’re viewed as a worthy target of a rivalry. It began with the “Falafel eaters” comment by Ed, which GWS milked for their PR purposes. We still get the big crowds to GWS games.

Agreed. These days, with draft swaps over future years available, you should not look at any one year's draft 'success' in isolation. You must weigh up the relative success with a view of relevant trades over draft years. It is no longer a simple task of we picked 'X' in 2021 draft year.

Gold Coast is eyeing former Geelong midfielder Charlie Constable after he nominated for the national draft.
Hugh Greenwood's shock departure from Gold Coast to North Melbourne has opened up a spot on the primary list. (Reported by SEN)

I think I made that point earlier.

PSD is no longer relevant. Anyone taken there could have been a DFA or taken at the end of national draft. We won't take anyone.
Relevant for players I guess that were told they would be re-drafted by their club unless a player the club rated higher became available with their last pick. Not saying there will be quality available, but the odd player slips thru that one club rates higher than the other.
