Just want to register: De Goey is an idiot, but I’m very disappointed that he’s going. He’s the type of player that is rare.
Has he already played his last game for us - that "thigh" seems to get longer to heal every week.

Sounds like he's getting less than our offer.

And even if he did get 100k more a season, that's what about $52k extra after tax. Barely life changing.
100k per year is more than enough for a player to make a move, as well as the fact that he will get a 4 or 5 year deal compared to our 2 years, it's a no brainer

Don’t agree. Can’t see any reason why Grundy can’t make us better. In fact, I think it will happen this year when he returns.
I don't see how people can watch us get crushed in the middle week-in week-out and not want Grundy back

Fly doesn’t seem like the coach who will ask Grundy to leave.
Fly is one of the most rational coaches Collingwood has. There's something to be said about hiring the best coach, not the best name to be a coach. If I were Norf, I'd take my time and interview every reasonable applicant and not rush the choice. Craig McRae wasn't someone who many people knew until last year and he's turned out to be a really smart choice.

With McStay on the way I’d say the club are angling for a trade rather than letting him walk. I can’t see any other reasons why they’d be in discussions with other clubs otherwise.
This is logical. De Goey would have to be worth a first and something? Surely ...

I’m up for the JDG for Taranto deal.

But I’m also in for fantasy land trades for Can Zurhaar. Not only do we land a great player but a bonafide foodie 😂

You’ll laugh at this but apparently there is talk of a move for Jake Aarts to Pies. I don’t really know why or how it would suit us but it is out there.
GWS have no cap. They're like us in 2020.

Is it the ruckman or is the clearance midfielder that's the issue? Because I would say we have two perfectly adequate rucks.

(This is me trying to play Devil's Advocate more than anything. Grundy deserves his spot back in the team if fit).

I don’t know, I feel BG strikes me as someone that won’t take to lightly if he is told that the club prefer to deal him out if there is a club interested....I can see him wanting out without question if he feels unwanted. I don’t think he would dig his heels in.
There seems to be this belief that the club want him out. I’m not convinced this is the case, despite great scribes like Scodog10 laughing at the possibility that both Grundy and Jordy will stay.

Let’s see what happens.

We are getting crushed in the middle, but I don’t think Grundy’s clearances are that clean or effective for us.
there have also been many games with Grundy rucking that we have also been crunched in the middle.

I’d like them both to stay, but reading the tea leaves and looking at it logically, if the club is genuinely pursuing the players reported, something will have to give and it means that likely at least one of them goes. Possibly both, as much as I don’t want that to happen.

I think Grundy will play more FF for the next couple of weeks, until he regains his touch. I also believe he has been training with the forward group quite a bit. Although grundy doesn't have much exposure as a forward, it sounds like fly is very keen to play him there for longer periods. I trust in this coaching group to get the best out of him

If one goes it will be De Goey.

Am I the only one thinking that Dan McCantplay and Tim Tarantula are grossly overated.
I wouldn’t want our club to move heaven and earth for either player.
I could count their decent games on one hand seriously..
Maybe I’m deluded I dunno.

I agree that Grundy's clearances can be questionable but if he is scrubbing kicks forward, even if they get intercepted, it's one less clean clearance out of the centre for the opposition to exploit the 666. at least the other team has to start their attack from closer to defence which gives us an opportunity to set up our own zone

That's up for the coaches to determine, but nonetheless the issue was far less prevalent when Grundy was playing.

The team centre clearance numbers with Grundy vs without Grundy are stark. We have been smacked in that area without him, whilst essentially breaking even with him over the period.

He has been training with the forwards, and I am a bit excited about the prospect of him being more of a 50/50 or 60/40 ruck/fwd type, rather than 90% rucking and resting for the rest. I know most people have erased 2021 from their memory, but he had several games where he went forward and played well. He kicked 12 goals (a career high), and seemed to be a problem for some backlines. I'd be happy to see it.

I am so hyped for him to be a forward. If he sucks at it, great, we know the answer. If he's good at it ...

Brisbane would be happy with a couple of 3rd rounders for McStay as a trade because the need the points and DeGoey can leave as a RFA for a 1st
We’d be better off if we took McStay as a FA, traded out DeGoey for a first, and then traded our 3rds to Brisbane for their McStay compo pick.
